Hi! Just got my wisdom tooth extracted and am starting to flare! I am surprised because it is in the summer but not really surprised as I was using a tight wallet and laziness as an excuse to eat SUPER-poorly.

I am in the hurt-to-walk phase (not fun) and I am actually on no drugs right now (besides Advil) and was wondering what good soft foods there were to eat. I know yogurt is one of them, and am thinking about doing a yogurt fast. Has anyone ever done this? It's just an idea I had, and I don't know if it's an actual real thing.

Is eating too much yogurt a bad thing?

What else could I eat?
I'm also thinking soft boiled eggs. YUMMMMMM.(i am very very hungry right now!!)

OH yeah.. getting your wisdom tooth pulled is nothing! My back hurts 10xs as much... easily! But, even if my back didn't hurt, I think the wisdom teeth thing is highly over-feared! (At least in my experience)

Hey, blujay:

Sorry about the temporary flare--hope that temporary really means very short

Eating too much yoghurt can be bad due to the amount of lactose and additives like inulin and even food starches that act as substrate for the friendly bacteria. Some yoghurts can even trigger a flare; it would not be the best way to eliminate a flare.

Eggs, tofu, homemade soups or borscht, jello, almond butter and jelly (I like strawberry preserves), tuna, well-cooked tomatoes, ice cream--these are foods that might be soft enough but should not all be taken together (lol).

Good luck,
John

Hi blujay,

Well I had two easy wisdom teeth and two that were impacted. The two easy were a breeze, the two impacted a little more work.

You can make smoothies with fruits, ice, juice and some sugar.

Thanks John!

I painfully limped my butt over to the grocery store and bought some organic tofu. It was pretty expensive (I can eat one of those cartons in one sitting). My mom actually has one of those tofu makers and that might be an option to encourage me to eat healthier... if she can part with it.

Thanks for the heads up about yoghurt.

Do you eat almond butter and jelly with something? or straight out of the jar??

Any other suggestions for safe soft foods or even cheap or easy to make low starch foods is greatly appreciated! I don't really enjoy cooking in the summer. I can deal with light cooking though!

blujay--
Oh, man, I know what that is like.

Forgot to mention applesauce--there are some cool flavored ones now.

Yes, I can eat almond butter and jam straight, but usually just have the almond paste on something crunchy like celery, but I suppose if people make peanut butter soup they can make almond butter soup... Speaking of which the tofu soup Japanese make is miso.

Some kinds of squash are not too bad when over cooked--summer squash is soft and takes other flavors nearly as well as tofu.

String cheese is soft, but I (don't really need the extra fat) don't eat very much of it because it is "soft" enough to contain too much lactose...but in moderation and with a bit of mustard--very nice snack.

Hope you are doing better,
John

Oh boy that sucks. Never a good day having teeth pulled.

I had all 4 done at once! Good times. It was during that lovely event, that I learned to blender EVERYTHING (think baby food). Seriously. I didn't eat for a long time due to post-infections and dry socket, so I turned everything into a slurry or near liquid and spoon fed myself (DO NOT try to eat through a straw - you'll do very bad things to the empty sockets).

I had steak and veggies blendered up, or soup, or fruit, you name it. Anything I normally ate, just went into the blender. Tastes weird (and actually some weren't too bad), but you'll get hungry enough that it becomes appealing! And at least you're getting some nutrients that way.

Hang in there.
