So, have recently been dx's with no remaining cartilage at the base of both my thumbs, I also happen to have a cyst on my right wrist. Dr. is recommending surgery to remove the bone and use the tendons from the wrist to attach to the thumbs. Anyone have this surgery or condition?

I'm being told it's OA, but honestly how do they know?

interestingly enough my AS kicks up in my SI joints, shoulder, neck, thumbs and one toe.

OA presents differently than AS. Something in how the inflammation affects the bones. I have it in my neck. They can tell by how it's changed the bone. AS damage presents in a way that the bone reaches for the next bone to fuse to. Osteo presents that has the bone growth reaching out. Look into osteophytes (OA)and syndesmophytes (AS). Too late at night for me to think clearly enough to go into it more than that. lol
