Just recovering from trigeminal neuralgia which appeared to be triggered by an autoimmune response to a virus. So sick for over a month and in and out of the hospital.

Why is it our immune systems can make our lives so challenging?

Hi Wendy,
I hope you are feeling better! What a nightmare! I just wanted to tell you that I still occasionally deal with trigeminal neuralgia due to a case of shingles I had about 8-9 years ago. It really sucks! I was on meds for the nerve pain for quite some time. Once in a while I still feel the pain.
I am so sorry you had to go through that. I don't have a true answer for your question about our immune systems except to agree with what you said. Our immune systems CAN make our lives so challenging! So we fight. Each and every day and we don't give up. And we come here and support each other through it all. That's the best way I have found to deal with it! Take care, hun!

Thanks everyone. I had some pretty weird symptoms beside the pain - including a bitter taste when I tried to eat fruit and a few other foods. That still hasn't gone away so I'm still on a pretty bland diet.

The worst symptom was unremitting nausea and dizziness. Couldn't stand up, couldn't even read. Ugh!

Now I'm mostly dealing with fatigue and low white blood cell count which appear to be the result of my body trying to fight the inflammation. But I'm finally back at work.

Ouch - could it be possible to be related to teeth ? Implants and also root canal fillings can lead to hidden bacterial infection. Check out Cavitation. Meanwhile, this would back up such a problem :-

Researchers add to evidence that common bacterial cause of gum disease may drive rheumatoid arthritis
Posted: 14 Dec 2016 11:56 AM PST
New evidence suggests that a bacterium known to cause chronic inflammatory gum infections also triggers the inflammatory “autoimmune” response characteristic of chronic, joint-destroying rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The new findings have important implications for prevention and treatment of RA, say the researchers.

Hope the problem can be resolved Wendy - trigeminal is horrib le. Positive thoughts.

Happy Christmas- take care -
