Hi All,

I have a mild case of iritis in both eyes, at the moment. I haven't had any in 12 years. I went to the eye specialist and she order pred forte every 2 hours and maxidex at bedtime. No dilating drop. I asked why not and she said it is mild and it will just blur my vision and make me miserable. I have had more aching in the eyes and she said that is the ciiary muscles having some spasms, but no harm will be caused. Is this a new treatment for Iritis. I admit, I love that my vison isn't blurred, but I do have discomfort.

Hi, hope your flare quiets quickly. Whenever I get flare ups, same as you, I only get prescribed the Pred Forte. I was told that the dilating drops are for only when it's more severe, and I did have that once.Hope that helps.

I am encouraged to close my eyes every hour for rest.

Hopefully you are well on your way to beating this milder iritis attack. I don't think this is a new treatment approach. Years ago I'd sometimes have milder attacks too and would only be prescribed PredF. It definitely relates to the severity of inflammation they see whether they want you on a dilating drop as well. It was also the case when tapering down after a severe attack once they find the inflammation (cell count) is in a safer range... at some point they'd have me stop the dilating drop and just to continue a slow taper of the steroid drop.

I know what you mean about the ache you were experiencing.
