If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi All - So I went on the NSD diet about 1 1/2 years ago, and it took some adjusting but I then I had a run of about 9 months with virtually no pain. It was absolutely amazing to have my life fully back. I am not sure what has happened, but since November 2015 I have on and off again pain that I have not experienced in quite some time. I am looking for any suggestions as to what it could be. I am extremely careful with food, but perhaps there is something that I have overlooked?
Typical day:
Breakfast: Eggs with some spinach and avocado, and coffee
Lunch - Protein (Chicken/Salmon/Steak very plain with some sautéed or grilled veggies
Dinner is the same as lunch
Sometimes I will add in a Paleo Pro shake post workout and sometimes a little chocolate at the end of the night that is made with agave, almonds and sea salt.
I can't figure out what is going on...

Could just have been a period of natural remission followed by a flare. Sometimes you just can't stop a flare with anything (though if things like diet do help you, then it may reduce the possibility of flaring)

Hi All,
i am so happy to find this forum, because I fight the same problems. Like Dave I was very successful with the diet but since end of decembre 2015 I had an irits and an inflammation in my feet. Both things I never had before. (usually I have the typical backpain, if I had a flare). I didn't change my nutrition either but I think I had maybe too much sugar (especially fructose) from fruits and almonds with skin, which includes starch. And maybe for what reason ever I had some irregularities with my digestion so the flare comes from fructose und an amount of starch which is usally not a problem. Is this possible? Or is the diet maybe not enough?

Welcome Rayd. I'm not an expert on NSD but there are plenty of members who are and may be able to respond to your question.

WELCOME, DaveSchwartz and Rayd:
It is important to maintain a diet that is "laxative" as well as "alkalizing." Understand that the length of time most any food remains within our digestive system is governed by many factors: Food types, combinations, stress, and a few additional basic health factors.
Supplementing with EVOliveOil by the teaspoonful throughout the day can help, but good to have some extra digestive fiber, also. Psyllium is good for this, especially. Other EFAs to take include borage seed oil at 2g effective GLA (MANY capsules) most effective late night or just before retiring.
I am always suspicious of anything powdered, especially shake mixes; please TEST everything.
You will find some explanation--a pill or supplement or it could be that You have become sensitive to foods that can cause enough of a reaction to compromise the intestinal tract. Try leaving off the most common red meat and substitute broccoli or tofu and see how it goes. I was eating too much salmon and tuna and developed gout in older age.
And there can be considerable benefit to using antibiotics while on this strict NSD; please check out my dropbox link "Important AS Resources."
Hang in there! HEALTH, John

Hi and thanks very much for Your posts!!!
It helps already, that someone knows what I am talking about :-) I will try several things. At first I reduce starch more than I already did and follow Your advice to avoid red meat. This Psyllium sounds very good as well.
Hey DaveSchwartz, as far as I know avocado could be a problem. I read it in one of the threads. Chocolate has definitively some starch and the skin of almonds as well. Maybe you could deal with it but than something brought your digestive system some irritation? Another reason could be, that you get more sensitive to starch.

Thanks all! After reading this further I notice a handful of things that could be causes for this: 1. I eat a lot of avocado - which I will sadly cut back on 2. I have been eating chocolate, which I will also sadly cut back on 3. I have been using the Paleo Pro Vanilla protein powder, whcih may be too starchy? 4. I have increased red meat intake, which is easy to cut back down on I will give all these things a try and see if it helps. I do recognize that my flare ups have increased since increasing these items listed above (with the exception of avocado which I always ate). All that being said, outside of cutting out these items, how can i stop the current flare? I would fast tomorrow or do a bone-broth intermittent fast, but i am traveling on business unfortunately. Your opinions would be awesome! BTW I wish I turned to this forum sooner Dave

I go well with Diclofenac, 75 mg, Productname in german is Deflamat (a good thing about this product is, that a part of the Diclofenac in every capsule appeals retarded), and stomach protection with Pantoprazol 40 mg.
Good luck! Rayd

I have another question. I read on several threads, that people have problems with dairy and/or eggs.
@ dairy: Is it because of the lactose, so lactose free products solve the problem? Or is it something else what could cause the problems?
@ eggs: What could cause AS related problems here? There is just some glucose in eggs.
Some enlightment would be great!

If you have a reaction to certain foods I would avoid them. Eggs and dairy are not a problem for me. Starch is a problem. My rule of thumb is if it has a face, product of a face, or is green it is probable OK for myself to eat.
