I'm not one to talk much to my family about how I really am feeling because I don't want to sound like a broken record. I hurt and bad. I just want to give up. I have taken Enbrel and done well until I got sick and haven't been able to take it in a few weeks. I am still fighting an infection and I cannot name a place on my body that doesn't hurt. Pain meds keep me up at night so I don't take them. I go to a massage therapist twice a month but am so sore she had to stop a few times today. Just trying to find stories to keep me going and give me hope. Thanks for reading....

I am so sorry. Pain meds affect me that way also. I pretty much have figured out how to get "some" relief and sleep. I have to take 1/2 a pill and take 1/2 in the a.m., 1/2 about 1:00 and then 1/2 about 8:30. I go to bed about 10:00. I sometimes read for 30-45 min until I get sleepy and then I can sleep. The regular dose just wires me too much. I never take one any closer than a couple of hours from when I hope to sleep.

I hurt all over also. If you can listen to music, read or something to try to get your mind on something else, it might help. I am so sorry you are in so much pain.

Also ask your dr. for a muscle relaxant. That helps with pain and will also help with your sleep. My NeuroSurgeon gave me Zanaflex. The rheumatologist has given me Skelaxin. One of those might help.

Hugs and Blessings.

Thanks you gave me an idea on cutting the pain pill. I will definitely give that a try. Yes I listen to "zen" music a lot to stay relaxed, heating pad , stretching when I can.

I had to get up this morning at 4:30 AM because cervical spine pain was so intense that it has given me what I call a tumor headache, only kidding but no true way to describe them. Seems crazy this condition. Yesterday the SI joints, I guess, hurt so much I could barely put weight on them, today, not so much, go figure. This stuff makes me feel like a manic depressive, up and down. Was diagnosed at 27. Am now 66 and feel 166. Just retired and feel that I cannot do anything without my old buddy, pain. He does not seem to be too impressed with Remicade, methotrexate, prednisone or hydrocodone. What a tough guy. He does not realize it but he has really messed up the end portion of my life. I am no longer interested in much at all. It hurts too much. Wife probably ready to send me over the edge because if you do not have it you do not understand it. I have it, AS and now a few assorted places (hand, shoulder, ankle) and simply feel quite hopeless. I think that the biologics came along too late for me. Already too much damage when I started them. I slug on with each infusion hoping this one will do it......but it does not. Sorry to be Debbie Downer but have had AS too long now.

Hello there,

Sorry to hear you are in such pain... hopefully turns around soon, flares are no fun.

When in flares I used heating pads, hot showers, recliners, listened to music or tried to watch some of my favorite movies.

Best to you on finding some relief.

Tim

HI

Have you considered another choice for pain management . Two types of antidepressents work to mediate pain very well. The benefit is the dose doesn't have to be increased in time like narcotics do. I take Amitriptyline low dose at bedtime, and Effexor in the daytime for severe neuropathic pain. The drug Cymbalta also modulates pain receptors . Many patients get defensive if these drugs are offered implying that they are depressed, when they are being ordered to help with your pain.
Just a thought you could consider.

I hear ya loud and clear. I don't say much to my family any more for the same reason, I'm sure they are sick and tired of me saying how sore or tired I am.

This is why this site is so good, you can let it all out and find support or maybe someone to talk to. I find it easier to talk to someone who really knows what I mean without giving huge explanations.

It really does help

I am so sorry StrongBuddha. I hope you get some relief.

My rheumatologist referred me to a Pain Management Specialist who helped me so much with facet injections and after a while Nerve Ablations. The ablations gave me so much relief.

Hope you find something.

Eddy, I am sorry for your pain.

I, too, have had it a long time. Started as a child with RA and added AS and Lupus in my 20's. I am now 70+. I have so much damage and the NeuroSurgeon said I have so much nerve damage that all I can do is try to lower inflammation with ice and rest. That does help me. I overdo one day and spend the next day calming it down so I can do it again. smile

I was up about 4:00 this a.m. after a very restless 4 hours of napping through the pain. It is not a good way to rest.

I hope today is a better day for you.
