If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Don't know Laure - I'm pretty lucky if I get four hours a night. Did try a sleeping draught, but it said 'not with glaucoma' so, no of thatta one. It would konk me out for 12 hrs though...! Then tried an alternative, but none too happy with that - can't remember the name, but was a melatonin (or summat).
Given up, IF I get tired during the day, I go switch out some - but usually manage OK on just my 3 - 4 hrs per night.

a hot bath or shower. the heating pad on low in the recliner. the heated mattress pad on low in the bed.
zanaflex (for my muscles, but it drops my BP and makes me fall asleep)
icepack to bed if its pain keeping me awake
valerian root tea used to do the trick before the zanaflex. i've read its a common sleep aide in europe, but that was years ago i read that.
strenuous exercise earlier in the day, but not near bedtime, like when i used to run, not anymore though: but a good swim or good bikeride nowadays, same effect. a busy busy tiring day. not enough sleep, always a bit sleep deprived so when i get to bed, i'm out.
flaring itself makes me tired and makes me unable to stay awake, unless the pain is keeping me awake. a catch 22.
a book or the tv on low with the lights down low with the heating pad on and zzzzzzzzz
sue
Spondyloarthropathy, HLAB27 negative Humira (still methylprednisone for flares, just not as often. Aleve if needed, rarely.) LDN/zanaflex/flector patches over SI/ice vits C, D. probiotics. hyaluronic acid. CoQ, Mg, Ca, K. chiro walk, bike no dairy (casein sensitivity), limited eggs, limited yeast (bread)

This is something I have struggled with for years... just can’t get to sleep at night Once I am asleep I am fine.. but I just toss and turn sometimes for hours first. I have no pain to keep me awake. I think I need to go see a doctor about this again. Maybe I will give up and just ask for some mild sleeping pills. Basically I am dead tired in the morning, really struggle to get up at 7:00 or so.. feel tired all day, yawn all day, almost fall asleep at my desk sometimes. Then it get to 10:00, 11:00 or 12:00pm and I am wide awake again and don't feel like sleeping. I go to bed and just toss and turn until about 1:30 or 2:00am before finally falling asleep Phil

There is a natural herb that I find good. It's the same thing they use in beer brewing, but dried and used as a tea, it is a natural remedy for insomnia. Kinda figures, since beer tends to make you mellow and sleepy Needs a litle sweetening but the taste is quite ok otherwise. Wikispecies: Humulus_lupulus

Hi Laura,
I take a low dose of Amitriptyline which is a low does antidepressent. The dose you take is very small. I have taken it for 25 years. It also helps with pain. I couldn't sleep when I took Enbrel, Has this been a problem since you started Enbrel ?

Just about all of us with Chronic diseases has sleeping problems. I've been told it is because of the pain and inflammation changes our brains somewhat and all is askew. I have the same problem and have tried so many things. Nothing works for long except Trazadone but it can be contraindicated with other medications. Hope you find something. My Dr.s tell me that sleep is the most important thing so they really try to help me.

I actively avoid sleeping more than 4 or 5 hours at a time - can't handle the pain and stiffness in trying to move if I am immobile for any longer. To that end, I always have a drink right before bedtime (hot milk with half a teaspoon of honey in it), and with my middle aged bladder that wakes me at about the right time. I then get up, if necessary walk around a bit or sit in my recliner for a little while, then go back to bed for the next 3-4 hour sleep. On really bad nights its up and staying in the recliner, or if I can't get to sleep (usually because of neck problems), then I start with an hour or two in the recliner plus a muscle relaxant (diazepam at the moment) and a heat pad before trying bed again.
Two short bursts of sleep works an awful lot better for me than staying in bed and having 8 hours or restlessness and pain and an inability to move in the morning (to the point where I really need help sitting up). More often than not, the break in the middle (where I get up to the bathroom) doesn't have to be any more than that, but its enough to stop my body from seizing up.
The other things that are important are a memory foam topper pad on the bed (cushions my sore hips really well) and loads of pillows around me to support my body, as well as making sure my neck is in exactly the right position with the right height pillow. Also making sure I am warm enough in bed.

Hey there,
When my hips and back were at the worst, I was same as CEMC... could not sleep more than 3-4 hours without being in extreme amount of pain/stiffness in morning.
So I took nap when got home from work for couple of hours and went to bed later and slept at most typically 4 hours at night.
Lot of times moved behind bed and LazyBoy recliner.
No magic solutions when AS is flaring sometimes... just have to manage.
Hopefully you can get some good shuteye.
Tim
