Does anyone take long-term antibiotics for their AS? I have convinced my doc to give me doxycycline. I am hoping the doxycycline and low starch/no starch diet helps me improve.

Hi Shari,
I used antibiotics occasionally when I first started kicking AS. Flagyl, Doxycycline, Cipro were prescirbed at different times for prostate issues. I found the antibiotics could help greatly with a flare, so I obtained a few bottles of tetracycline that helped me get to where the LSD alone was enough to kick the AS. I had not been successful in convincing a doctor to prescribe it for AS so I bought some for my "fish tank" and used the same dosage that I had been prescribed previously.
Personally, I would not want to take anything other than dietary supplements long term. My goal was to get the "garden within" weed free and then keep it that way. Just like any garden this does not happen quickly and takes vigilance.

Wishing good results,
Ike

Hi, Shari:

Yes, I have used antibiotics to achieve long-term remission, but my experiences are about the same as Ike's; I no longer require them, but for over six years after starting strict NSD, I used antibiotics often, and recommend them to others.

The thing is, there are two types of antibiotics: Bactericidal (like Cipro) and Bacteristatic (like tetracycline). I strongly suggest taking the tetracycline about 15 minutes before eating each of the three largest meals of the day. The 1500mg was 500mg each meal, and I have taken as much as 2500mg daily for brief periods.

I have done Cipro family of antibiotics in 11 day cycles to help eliminate established colonies, and it is very important to be even stricter during these times, to avoid developing a resistive strain.

Good Luck with it,
HEALTH,
John

Winter,
If you want a doctor who will give you antibiotics for arthritis, you should ask for one at roadback.org

Hey John,

Does the tetracycline kill all the bacteria like the normal antibiotics doctors give you? And how do you boost your "good bacteria" back up? Large doses of probiotics?
