Hiya Jeff - another Banana Bender here! laugh

Are you based in Townsville or Enoggera?

Sorry you had to find us but it's a great place where you will find lots of support advice divergent opinions and comradeship!

There are many ways to try to manage your AS - keep fit and flexible - resistance training is good for us ASers.... and many find help from dropping the starches in their diet used in combination with meds or alone. We're all different, so respond differently to many treatment options - so no magic Silver Bullet for most of us.

Welcome to KickAS Jeff. I wish you didn't need this site at all, but there is a lot of good info here. Be sure to check into the low- and no-starch diets (LSD and NSD), as the NSD has reduced my pain to a very tolerable level. I served in the U.S. Army, but I had to get out due to the AS. If I had known about NSD earlier, I may have been able to stay in.

AS symptoms started 1991. Official dx in 2006 with HLA-B27+, fused SIJ, bone spurs in back, extreme rib/hip pain, and other family with SpA. Started Enbrel in 2006 with good results, but stopped in 2010 due to nerve damage (MS) from it. Getting good results with no-starch diet since 2011.

Hi Jeff. I used to live on one of those wee islands 1200 miles kind of to the south east of Australia, or at least thats what I tell people here when they ask me which part of Australia I come from. But hey, I'm not going to get upset about it! Glad you found us here.

Hi Louise!

What kind of resistance training do you recommend? Are free weights ok?
