Years ago I had a doctor tellme I had a good healthy denial system. He defined healthy denial as the kind that makes can some cancer patients live 10 yrs longer than expected because they can't be bothered with being ill. So, Ms. "I'm getting my Ph.D. Even Though I Have Chronic and Sometimes Debilitating RA and Work Full Time"... I think you have it, too. hugss

Ha ha - you're funny! Hmm... wonder whether you're right. I'm certainly determined to not let RA stop me in my tracks. But I think I'm one of the lucky ones because methotrexate seems to be working for me and it doesn't for everyone.

I cycled up the hill beside the one I live on and came back home. It took me about an hour, a nice workout. I decided to climb the mountain because it was an especially clear day and I wanted to see one of the other islands which is normally not visible. Well I got a surprise up there not only could I just about make it out but looking in another direction I saw as clear as day an island which in the last 10 years I never knew was visible. Hmmmm.... it makes me wonder what other things are to be found if I give myself the opportunity.

That's awesome. rainbow Did you get a photo?

It reminds me of a story that makes me smile. We moved my daughter to Seattle in late May of '06 for college. In mid-August the same summer she called me to say there was a HUGE mountain right next to the city. That tells you a bit about how much it rains there.

fergus:

that sounds awesome!

my husband always laughs when i discover something "new" that has been around for years.

erica:

had never heard of radical acceptance, so had to go look it up. i'm with you, i like radical denial better! cheerleader

i've always been rather "stubborn", never satisfied with status quo, always optimistic that things can be better.

my mother and i butt heads with our philosophies on this; she thinks i should learn to be more accepting, i say never! well, not for the things that i believe can change.

i read or heard somewhere that our civilization has evolved due to mankind's inherent nature of never being satisfied.

as i tell my students. its ok to critique, so long as you have solutions to suggest.

i don't know. i guess its a balance between "accepting the things we can not change, changing the things we can, and having the wisdom to know the difference".........i always liked that quote.

oh yeh,

yesterday i had a doctors appointment at 2 pm followed by the chiro at 4 pm, which left me lots of time to go for a walk before it got dark. left work so early that it felt like i played hooky yesterday. we walked ~2 miles in ~45 minutes .....down to the erie canal and back. the kingfishers were quite chatty yesterday. their vocalization is quite loud. there's a little basin off the canal, marsh / reeds there, so lots of birds like to gather there. several kingfishers were chasing one another and screaming quite loudly! came back through the golf course; the maples were such an intense golden color.
