hi kids;

well. it is now official, legal and everything. I am working on Green Party nomination to run for Canton's Board of Selectmen. have campaign manager and treasurer- this is a very legally complex undertaking and 'we' are trying to do everything quite properly...serious stuff.

if perchance you happen to be in the vicinity of canton connecticut you are invited to a "NOT" a tea party meet and greet, gettogether SUNDAY 13MARCH 1-4pm at the Boulder Ridge clubhouse (off commerce drive)in canton, ct.

if you've read my old stuff herein...this is no out of the wild left field sort of endeavour. this is a beautiful town with some problems, i have a list- a platform- with something like 30 points of light in it.

i have been and will continue shamelessly to ask for money from anyone with a concern for the future well being of our planet. our town holds a temporary permit to operate two hydro electric generating stations on our dams on the farmington river. we've spent in the past four years probably in excess of $100,000 US on engineering work, studies and permits etc.
it is not a huge project- we'll generate 2mw of clean electricity from the dams. we've been counting on the us congress to rpovide us with a permanent FERC permit so we can build and operate this project.

my advisors and i have decided to push the issue and bring the question of spending about $ 250,000 more to do the paperwork and pay for the permit we need to our Town Meeting for a vote.
after four years of effort and expending of treasure our board decided the process would be too expensive and (in the lamest of moves) took a straw poll to decide whether this should be a part of future town plans...straw poll of selectmen was four to one against.

in addition to trying to find funding for a basic campaign, we are now trying to raise an additional $1000 to $1500 to be able to appeal to the people who will pay for this. this is a battle we believe can win, BUT it will screw up every other money decision we had made. we consider the issue too important not to act on it.
we take checks usd. committee to elect ben holden/ 20 boulder ridge, canton, ct 06019...anything will be appreciated; we are in fact not hitting the meager goals we already had and this just makes it harder...if the issue hurts the campaign and it may, my brain trust concurred almost unanimously it's worth the risk. my campaign manager noted if we spend this now and don't win the town vote the chance of taking in much more money is pretty slim.

this project alone will not change the world, a thousand such thingees or more would make a difference in terms of both clean energy and energy independence. small, decentralized, municipal...it'd be a tragedy to lose this chance. our temporary permit expires 12-31-11 and we're done, finished.
thank you, sorry, thank you in advance...

update...meggie and kat and other have asked and i've not answered. so. my back is in shreds. i'm within half a pill a day on my Norco limit...not that i can't take more, but my new doctor has strongly 'suggested' i inform her if i go over my 'floor limit'. Two years ago i had to change doctors. my new doctor is a woman- the first day we met she said 'i don't write pain meds' and ' i am not comfortable supervising your enbrel. i don't know enough.' she refered me to new rheumy- hey i can't afford one doctor much less two...the new rheumy said i won't take people on disability- 'it's too much work'- no discussion, goodbye.

so 16 months ago i realized i was 'unsupervised' with such meds an illadvised course...so i discontinued use. I am not afraid of enbrel, may do it again some day, who knows.

the amazing thing is the earth hasn't swallowed me up and the sky hasn't fallen in. In fact, one night in december 2010, the spondy monster came to visit about a six on that 1-10 thing.
i said visit- after three/four hours it went away. I have had a several episodes of achilles tendonitis and my right shoulder does have some inflammation; my main pain source isn't the AS at all now; it's the scoliosis in the lumbar- there's a muscle on the right side that's been in spasm off and on since 1959 when i had my first and last steroid shots.
only thing it's not off and on any more- it's ON ! the spasm has gone from lumbar to under the shoulder blade. this lady doctor actually touches my back (my 11 year rheumy never did),
says the spasm in now 15-16 inches in length, worse than six months ago- she offered shots and taper pack which i declined for all the reason we'd previously discussed and she said she knew that would be my answer. I am one of only three patients for whom she will write pain med scripts. I had a little flutter in pulse one day...heart sounds ok, lungs sound good,
bp is marginally ok, blood sugar good, lipids actually one point low on the good one otherwise ok.
she's a keeper, i like her; she listens and we concur on everything except my smoking about a half a pack a day, she thumps my chest and listens to my lungs- says i'm a medical marvel...'you're 64 you ought to wheeze like like a steam engine and you don't'.
and so
i'm still here, enbrel did NOTHING for the scoliosis pain anyway; shreds he said, yup. it's not fun, have not lost my sense of humor, but...
and there you are.
still here, still me; i've been very busy...
i promise i'll be better in the future.
love to all
aBhumpty

Hurray for you, Ben! You may be interested to know that I was the financial agent for the local Green Party for several years. I had to give it up when I took on my current job almost four years ago as I can't be overtly political in this position.

I wish you the best of luck with your run for election.

Good luck with your election. I have strong views on a few topics, but I am too chicken to ever run for anything but the ice cream truck! Oh yeah, that's just a memory. laugh2

Glad to hear you found a good doctor, I have recently found out how destructive a bad doctor can be!!! mad2

Yeah Ben!

This planet needs MORE folks who care more for green ways of living than commercialism, plastic and having everything that we *want*!

Go the Greens! clap

I was raised by Greenies back in the 60s and continue to raise the next generation of Greenies myself!

(I gotta say that as a result of my way of life, going down the NSD path wasn't that hard for me as the platform I leapt off from was one of wholefoods and cooking from scratch every day anyway...just had to ditch the starches, not change the way I thought or cooked.)

Best of luck with your political endeavours and your new doc.

Best thing NZ ever did was go proportional representation with voting - finally got a significant number of greens into parliament.

Good luck. Hope you get in, and get action.

Amazing what you are doing Ben, here's to great success. All for green.

And congrats on finding a ggod doctor, sounds like she has yr best interests at the heart of the matter, a keeper.

Snap. Exactly where my probs have been, scholiosis and that horrible pain under the shouder blade. My physio guy told me what it was all about and how extensive it was. Just nags and nags away, and 'burns'. Also have the shoulder involvement - biceps tendonitis and impingement - and the achilles tendonitis: this last is there most of the time, and likes especially to visit at night time!

Another area I've started pain 'again' now is the SIs. They just grumble, rumble away. I only take the LDN. IF hit a high then have some pain relief medication, but mostly am able to make through it.

But, heigh. Best of good going handling yr AS probs and wish you tremendous success with the dam and on the political front. You go...

Ben, I've been meaning to write you since I received your letter on this. Been carrying a card around to send to you. Too much going on in my life and every day I forget. I still plan to remember to do it, however.

Anyway, I am so very proud of you and know that you would represent the town extremely well. If I could I would send you some cash toward your campaign. As soon as I am able, I will.

As for the rest, I just love ya and hope you are well.

Warm hugs,

Kat

Brother Ben,
I felt like you lobbed a shell my way: but I still love ya.
I pray for your good health and there is no doubt in my mind I would be a better person after discussing with you the long range effects of daming a river.

your friend,
Lon
