Sorry to be a homer here, but the game of baseball lost one of its greatest announcers ever yesterday in Ernie Harwell. As a lifelong resident of the Detroit area of Michigan born in 1960, I grew up listening to his golden voice describe the game of baseball to me & countless others of my generation. You don't have to be a Tiger fan to appreciate this man. He was a man of outstanding Christian character & someone we should all aspire to be like.
Many was the time as a child when I would fall asleep with my radio by my side listening to him broadcast the games. Apparently heaven needed another great baseball announcer to call their games.
God bless you Ernie & Godspeed! You will be missed by many!!

I probably should have posted my tribute to Ernie here, too, Glenn. Nicely said. Still hard to believe he's finally gone.
