It could be from AS, but it could be something else... It sounds like something you should get checked out properly - have you talked to your doctor about these new symptoms? I hope you get it resolved quickly.

Hi, PETRA25:

Prednisone is one of the worst drugs in the world. PERIOD. It should NEVER be used for AS except in extreme flare and only then for a brief (PULSE) dosage regimen.

What You have is a NEW DISEASE--the combination of prednisone (a steroid) with AS.

Even the other terrible drugs commonly used to treat AS advertise the fact that "at least I'm not a STEROID:" NSAIDs!

Yeah, steroids are great anti-inflammatory drugs, but the 20-plus side effects should serve as a dire warning to not go anywhere near these poisons. Understand, these are not side effects that 'some people may get,' but side effects that nearly every person taking these drugs long-term will develop.

AS is a bone-wasting disease and steroids accelerate this process. Check yourself for osteoporosis (how much height have You lost?) and now diabetes, too. VitD levels are compromised and You might just be lucky and only have adult rickets. But you cannot continue on steroids!

There are trade-offs with every decision we make but go and ask Your doctor whether diet would help AS symptoms. I bet (s)he would say no and now this same doctor has damaged You by not informing You of the risks from steroids. Criminal stupidity.

Good luck to You,
John

Hi Petra,

Sorry to hear about such serious symptoms. You NEED to get checked out by someone other than whoever is giving you the pred. I take prednisone only when I am in a flare. And never never the medrol pack. It's full of fillers. AS patients are beyond fillers. If we have to take them it should be straight up. And very closely monitored! Otherwise you're dilly dallying around the problem.

You know fillers alone can cause a miriad of problems in people. PLEASE do not ignore these new symptoms or assume anything. Get checked out-soon-K!!!! Then let us know!

Hi~im sorry you are dealing with these symptoms! I think they could be AS but not sure do you have a Dr. you could contact? I'm not sure how medical is done there. I would definitely get a hold of a physician! Good luck and I hope those symptoms subside. Let us know what you find out~okay

Hi Petra, did this start after you began taking the Medrol? If it did (and even if it didn't) please get to your doctor and let him/her know about these new symptoms. There might be something else going on, it might be just new AS symptoms, or it could be due to the med. You won't know unless you look into it, OK?

Hugs,

Kat

i have a fair amount of arthritis in my hands and feet from my disease.
but when on NSAIDS infinitely worse because they give me edema (nonpitting so can't see but its there) and the edema makes the inflammation worse. one of the side effects of prednisone is also edema, might be one thing to consider.
