a family member told me once "you've used up all your sympathy".....i don't discuss my health with that person anymore....on the rare occasion that we talk on the phone....we just talk about other things.

Sam, CONGRATS on being in remission!
I'm sorry your friend is not being much of a "friend" right now. Only you can decide if this person is worth keeping in your life or saying that it is not worth it if they won't believe you. You have enough other things to deal with without having to prove that you were sick. I'd also like to say that I'm sorry to hear that your family is not being supportive of you.

Thanks for the kind words Sue. I've been really sick this weekend, still trying to focus on recovering and learning what i can do/what i can't do. I'm a bit stubborn sometimes!

Thanks Jay. I've decided that ditching this friend is the way to go. I told her I was no longer going to pursue the friendship to that level again, and I haven't heard anything back. It's fine with me, i know who my true friends are, and if it means leaving a few behind, so be it.

Hi Sam,

I am new to this sight; but, my heart goes out to you. What an ordeal you have been through. Since your family and friends are not very supportive; are there any support groups in your community that you could join?

I think that people who are healthy and have not had pain or illness just don't always understand and therefore, they just aren't capable of being truly supportive.

If it's o.k. to ask...did you get the Leukemia from being on medicine for anklosing spondylitis?

Take care of yourself...you are here for a good reason.

Hi Sam,

I don't get on here much these days because of my own problems these days but after reading your post I had yo reply to you. Like everyone here has pretty much said ditch the person that you think is your friend because they are not really a friend if they can't stand up for you and help you out at a time when you most need them. I am across the bridge so if you need to talk let me know.

Hi Vicki

The Arthritis Drugs had nothign to do with Leukemia. I can tell you that because I was first diagnosed with Leukemia before AS started.

Thanks for your hugs and caring,

Sam, glad you are here posting!!
As for this friend and your unsupportive family, tell them to log on here and see the support you receive....I have had friends who didn't understand and if they took the time, they supported me, if not, I didn't look to them for help.
you rock, remember that!
Peace
Linc
