I have read in a couple places such as the WestonPrice site, that one really needs to soak nuts before eating them, secondary to enyzyme inhibitors. I eat tons of nuts, almond muffins, waffles, whole etc.
Any thoughts or experience with this would be appreciated.

Hi Alecia,

I have read the same over and over for same reason you mention, but mostly with almonds.

For a while I did so with almonds... would let them sit in water for 8-10 hours and dry and eat afterwards. May have been easier on digestion, but was time consuming and sometimes nuts seemed a bit moldy so I would toss. Also... they were no longer crunchy which I like more

Have never tried with walnuts which I eat much more of.

Did not see any difference in relation to my AS pain with either method of eating.

That is my experience if it helps,

Tim

Hi Alecia

Yes, I believe the Weston A Price foundation makes a very important point here indeed (as well as all the other forgotten wisdoms they share with us through book like Fallon's Nourishing traditions for example).
Every day I eat almonds, organic ones, soaked 24 hours in salted water, and then pealed. Not at all much work, just some fingerwork when watching some TV. I think non soaked nut are very harmful for the guts, and think anyones guts will tell them that if they test, compare and feel.

Cheers
Andreas

I used to work for a Greek lady that made me soak almonds overnight. Then served them to her with a bowl of lemon juice and bowl of salt. At her evening drink she would peel them dip in juice and then salt and eat. She said it was how she used to eat them off the trees when she was a child.

I'd put them in the oven for awhile at a low temperature to dry them out again.

Wet nuts? Yuck! LOL!

Soaking nuts and seeds stimulates the process of germination. This soaking neutralizes phytic acid, a substance present in the bran of all grains and seeds that inhibits absorption of minerals like calcium, magnesium and zinc. Soaking also neutralizes enzyme inhibitors present in all seeds. i.e. leave some seeds in a shed and they will be fine for years preserved naturally, soak them to break these enzyme inhibitors etc and they will go moldy in days. Un soaked they are a strain on the digestive system.
