aloha Kaki...et al

after my old rheumy gave me the indomethicin...I had a very precipitious decline- my ulcer cost me nearly 60 lbs
in lost weight all told- but the whopper was dropping 24 lbs in nine days as i was casually bleeding to death, going
in and out of consciousness and my pcp was on vacation....SHORT/long...my pcp freaked out...doubled my prevacid
and concurred with my decision to go back to the tolectin until stabilized...dropped another 16 lbs in the next six
weeks...wasting/wasted...going/gone.........

but i pulled myself out of it... both my pcp and the old rheumy suggested several times
that I might take the tolectin and continue with the prevacid indefinitely...(the prevacid gives me nausea)...
I announced to my pcp after gaining back 12lbs that the stasis of taking the pill that ate a hole in my tummy
and then another to counteract it and makes me sick was a no go...and I was so afraid of the nsaid that I
was only taking one or two a day( half dose)...I told him my goal was to find a new safe med and find a way to
stop the prevacid and get 'back to normal'...Ha !/?...that was dec 2002...he promised me that if I put on
more weight...he'd let me try new ones again in march 2003.

come march I was ready/desperate for anything...I made the mistake of saying ' look i don't care if the new meds
kill me, it's time to change.' i was a little frothy and stomping at the ground a bit...my pcp put his hand on my
shoulder and said 'i don't like your attitude' he wanted me feeling more positive and a bit less anxious...
so he gave me Xanax for 90 days...a little vacation from the worry...when the 90 days were up, I got to try
the vioxx, had a horrible allergic reaction to it, but was so mellow that until the whole room started spinning
I tought it was the vioxx working well...the vioxx also gave me the mother of a backaches.

I actually took the Xanax for almost four months, before I told my pcp it had to go, and i learned one should
not ever say 'i don't care if it kills me' to the doctor...and hey capricorns, well, capricorns remember why
they're there...for the sake of plot continuity " back to normal " isn't ever going to happen.

my friend, teacher and drug expert said the pcp's choice of Xanax was not right; should have been an AD.
there's afine line between anxiety/apprehension and sense of doom/depression.

but afterall men only go to doctors when they think the end is near...wish i knew then etc, etc.

Hi,

some of the anti-ds have a risk of side effects esp in the early days and on the taper. I know that lots have good results on them but not all, and getting the wrong one can be a very rough ride.

Anyway hope Simones getting better!

Thanks for the update Wendy.

Simone, please know you will be in my prayers. I hope you can get into the pain clinic. Depression can be a long road but there IS light at the end of the tunnel.

You have a lot of people here who care about you. Hang in there.

HI Wendy,
Thanks for letting us know what is going on with Simone.
It makes my blood boil when I hear of doctors not taking care of their patients in the correct way and not being sympathetic at all.
I think it's time for a new doc and the pain clinic is a good idea.
You said that she is reading the post, so Simone if you read this...
Hang in there! We are all thinking and praying for you.
Big hugs,
Lisa
