On ER on NBC tonight, there is supposed to be a male patient that will be treated for severe symptoms of AS.

Yup. I saw the episode and was going to mention it, but it looks like people here already knew about it. Anyway, kid with AS who has been in an auto accident comes into the ER. Doc tries to intubate him, tries to straighten his neck to get the tube in. Bango! Broken neck. Instant quadripalegic.
I actually was at a dinner party a few weeks ago with a guy who was both a doctor and former executive producer on ER. I was talking to him about AS, but my guess is that this had nothing to do with the show. OTOH, maybe...
Anyway, I enjoyed the show -- what I saw of it before I fell asleep.

The new series of ER starts in the UK next week on satillite TV. I did see one episode of this series whilst in the USA last November, the one with the helicopter crash. I wont spoil it by telling the outcome.

Well I saw ER last night and boy do I wish I would have Not seen it. With my neck that could be me. I have all that Hardware in my neck and believe it or not the Doctors still try to move my head when I see them. Some Hospital Staff have even gone as far as telling my that there is no way my neck can't move. Scary Stuff. But then again I was told that I wuld NOT survive a car wreck or for that matter a fall. I was also told that if I was to sit down to hard I could Break my neck andor lower back now that I have rods and screws there too. But remember we can NOT live in a can the rest of our lives just because there is a chance we could die from something. I Strongly believe that when our time is up our time is up and nothing can change that. John

I only saw from the point of when the father said "Be careful, he's fragile". Did they actually say at some point in the show he had AS? If so were any of the doctors in the room present when it was said? Thing that gets me about that show (which is why I never watch it), you know as soon as something is said, the worst possible scenerio and the complete opposite will happen. Its almost cartoonesque. Talk about predictable. None the less, makes you want to have your medical condition tattooed on your forehead with bold capital letters saying "This was written for you Doc!".

Hi Kerry It was mentioned a few times, and the Doctors were in the room. I let Eric stay up and watch it, and when they said that he had AS Erics eyes got big as he looked at me!

John It was pretty scary when his neck snapped. It started Eric asking questions that he should not have to worry about. Any one could be in an accident and not survive....There are no guarantees in this world. Your chances are a lot slimmer of surviving than mine are, but like you said.....When it is your time, it is your time! Hugs Lori
