I'm so happy today that it seems I'm totally over my "whiny, erratic, confused" mind state of the recent few days. No I didn't find some miracle pill or anything and, in fact, I feel physically worse this morning than yesterday, but last night I bowled like a PBA pro!!!!!!!!! I had both my high scratch game (233) and high scratch series (613) ever!!!!! I had a 380 going into the final game and knew I had to have a 220 to reach my first 600 in over three years. And instead of choking, I came out and rolled 6 strikes in a row to open the third game. Man, I really felt like I had a chance at a 300. But in the 7th I left a solid 10 pin. Though I picked it up, it shook me and I opened the 8th and 9th with two baby splits. Regaining my composure, though, I closed out the tenth with three more strikes!!! Since this is just our third week, I'm still establishing my handicap. But l'm pretty sure last night set marks on handicap game and series that should leave me in the money at the end of the Summer. It was a magical night.

Way to go!! Great series!! You must be on a summer league? I'm an avid bowler as well. I had a lot of problems this past fall league. It was this year that I found out I had AS, I had a severe case of iritis and could hardly see for a while. I dropped my average from 185 last season to 178 this past year. Oh well. I still had a good time. I managed 4 or 5 600 series, with a high of 656 and a high game of 246. My all time high game is a 259 (although I did have a 276 in practice last summer) and a high series of 686. Since I'm taking the summer off, I hope to get more practice in and be able to get back to that 185 plateau, and someday I'd like to crack the 190 barrier.
I hope you have continued success in your league. Keep me updated.

Glenn

Hey Johnny,
Well done.... congratulations on your great game..... I actually have my own bowling gloating to do.... last weekend I was asked to join in a group of 14 to play.... hadn't bowled a ball for about 6 years and thought yeah, why not.... anyway bowled a 156 in the first game and a 142 in the second.... ended up beating all comers... and won the day.... Hmmm, perhaps I should think about going back to it......?

BTW, did I neglect to mention that the group was Thirteen 9 year old girls at my daughters birthday party and they asked me to bowl cause one of the girls didn't turn up...? Got to love that "bumper bowling" LOL

Well done buddy.... you sound like you're really enjoying it

Obviously, you are a much more accomplished bowler than I. But, this is just my 4th Summer. This Fall will be my 5th year. Last Fall, my average was 155. My high game ever was also in practice (sucks, don't it) a 264. Anyway, I really think I figured out something the previous two weeks and I believe I'm on the cusp of being right up there with you good bowlers. My average in Summer is now 164, and I think I can get it up even more. Let's just hope that AS doesn't rear it's ugly head in full force for us both this year. When Fall League starts, lets both keep each other informed on our progress! I think it would be fun to compare notes throughout the season. As for Summer League, I don't really like bowling in the Summer, but I do so because my team captain (an elderly man) really enjoys it and he couldn't find anyone to take my place. So I just look at Summer League as my time for practice and trying new things.

Johnny,
I don't know about the "accomplished bowler" part of it. I am proud of what I've done and the progress I've made over the past 10 years or so, but I'm one of the lowest averages in my league. Fully 1/3 of the league I bowl on averages over 200 and probably 2/3 are 190 & over. I feel totally inadequate against those guys, which is why I want to get better. I thought after last year (which was by far my best ever) that I was finally on the cusp of being able to compete with my peers. Of course I wasn't prepared for all the health challenges I faced this season, but I hate to use that as an excuse. I'd love to keep comparing notes this fall. Do you bowl with a Reactive Resin ball? I found that when I switched to that and made a couple small modifications in my delivery that my average went from the mid 160's up into the 180 range. Now I have to figure out the next step up. I have a friend that works at the bowling center who averages in the low 210's and said he would help me over the summer. I just have to get up there to take advantage of it.
I wish you all the luck and I hope you beat that 686 of mine. I love nothing better than to have a new mark to shoot at.
Keep me posted with a PM here & there to let me know how it goes. Its great to find another avid bowler in the group and I hope now that the pain seems to be under control to improve.
Lots of luck.

Glenn
