in both temples, after floor exercises.

Have had A.S. 40 odd years now with a moderate kyphosis

When i do the stretching and stuff i find myself straining and more often than not get a headache afterwards in both temples that is intermittent and can take weeks to resolve

Something simple like laying on back and doing (small weighted) leg raises (even with a pillow placed on floor) can cause the strained temples headache. It's been like this for years

I guess this is a neck strain thing....does anyone else get this?

Good to see y'all again smile

Sorry, I haven't been in for a while. I all I can think is that there is a tension being created in those times. It sounds like you need to support your neck, as with kyphosis, I imagine it doesn't easily meet the floor. Unless that's what you're using the pillow for already. Then, ignore me.

But I do wonder if you were able to stretch out the tendons in your neck afterward? Because that kind of tension is generally caused by straining. Try not to brace your shoulders too tightly while doing the moves?

I do get neck tension. Awful neck tension. Have for years. One thing I do know is that if I am clenching my shoulders, my neck will tighten and I will have pain. So I slide my shoulderblades down my spine a milimeter or two, to form a V and activate my lat delti muscles (bra bulge muscle, we women could call it) by sliding them forward under my arms. That helps my upper back take the pressure off my shoulders.

Then I make sure my abs are working to support my lower spine, while I do that type of exercise. Don't know if I described that well. Hope it helps?

White light and love,

Kat

Thanks Inanna and Love, Light and Peace, as the late great Spike Milligan would say smile

what you said makes sense but can happen even with pillow support.

I spoke to a Physio friend online and he understands the condition i have described....over exertion, he calls it, and he explains that a strain like that can takes weeks to clear up

A.S, the disease that keeps on giving

Thanks again Inanna and love to you all

Hello saltire,

Beginning at age 45 a tightness in the temples was the first symptom I had and I can not remember if it was just before or after a scuba accident. My bet is that it was just before.

I find that eating starch greatly increases the temple pain and it is the most intense on the side that sea water got into my inner ear in a scuba accident.

My impression is that the pain starts in the enthesis around the temples due to inflammation. I get a lot of dry, burning pain and pressure in the left sinuses, left eye socket, at the base of the skull on the left side and in the left jaw. The symptom started very localized then spread through the head since late 2013.

I hypothesis that there is a synergy between an underlying spondyloarthorpathy and various traumas to the body; primarily past infections and injury.

If I inadvertently sleep on my back then the sheer forces in the cervical spine causes eye socket pain, headaches and facial pain. My arms can go numb too. I have to sleep on my side.

A hot water bottle on my temple used to help. Only being physically active as much as possible and avoiding starch helps me. I've never been treated for any SpA.

I hope this helps.

Robin

Hello saltire:

After reading your posts I thought: Voltaren Original.
(Diclofenac diethlamine gel 1.16%)

Massage a thin layer onto your upper shoulders and neck area. Do not need a huge amount. A little goes a long way as they say.

+ DO NOT RUB ON YOUR FACE.

+ AVOID CONTACT WITH YOUR EYES, NOSTRILS AND MOUTH.

+ DO NOT RUB ONTO YOUR TEMPLES (it could run down into your eyes.)

Should begin to feel a gradual relaxing of your shoulders/neck muscles.

I think the pain you feel in your temples is possibly tension/strain pain.

My Disclaimer:
I am not a doctor. I do not even play one on TV.

Good luck, saltire and sorry to hear of your pain.

Hey, I had a thought. I use a mix of an Arnica muscle rub and a CBD muscle rub. It actually does help reduce the tension in my neck and shoulders. Also, I had my first steroid shot for it a couple of months ago. That really helped. It doesn't really help AS pain much, but the other stuff, the knock-on pain, it does help.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Light and love.
