I have recently switched to No starch diet for about a month. I have reintroduced a few new foods linked blanched almonds (seed and flower), one decaf coffee a day :0 and egg yolks.

My pain is subsiding but I still need meds at night. I keep hearing past AS members talking about fasting or Apple diets.

Can anyone help explain the process and the risk. The apple diet really intrigues me.

Thanks in advance for everyone's support

Hello, John:

FASTING for the 4-6 days needed can be difficult and we always have a few "false starts" where we have to eat for one reason or another, but completing such a fast will be very rewarding and certainly proves the AS connection with food. When I fast, I stop all medication; water only. Please see my comments and Dr. Garten's chapter on fasting "Important AS Information" in my signature (Dropbox).

The Edgar Cayce Three Day Apple Diet is really best done in season and it is APPLES--the redder the better; all the apples you want to eat but only apples, water, apple juice, or black coffee to drink. On day 3 be sure to have a lot of EVOliveOil and drink at least 4-6 ounces during the final half of the third day. I usually sip it by the tablespoon to reach almost that amount. Although some apples are starchy when harvested too early, they don't linger in the system, and act as a "broom" to sweep out a lot of nasty stuff.

Both are very effective at taking down AS flares and otherwise decreasing symptoms.

Hope You have great results, also,

HEALTH,

John

Thank you for the quick response ,I enjoyed read the Barton PDF in your drop box. It explains the fasting very well. It actually a good read for a technical document.

Having never fasted before I will do some more research and will test the apples for starch using iodine. Sadly the apple season in Canada is in fall so I may have to wait.

Thank again for helping me kick some AS

All the best

John

Hello John,

I did apple fasts for a few years many years ago now (2002 to 2010), not so much afterwards having family and doing much better. I do 1 day water fast and go 24 hours without eating from Thursday night to Friday night.

First couple of times I did the apple fast I experienced headaches.. I typically started on Friday and finished on Sunday. Would take it easy on the weekend.

Regards,

Tim

If you do an Apple fast, can you include the skins?

WELCOME, Krisztike:

Yes, and I believe skins contain a lot of value for intestinal healing (quercetin).

HEALTH,

John
