Seriously, I feel like after my new IgA diagnosis, there’s nothing left to eat. There’s so much from the AS diet that I now have to kick out, and it feels like every resource I try to find for this contradicts at least one other resource.

Is there a definitive guide to food for people with these two diagnoses, cuz I’m at a loss.

Hello, Zero:

I'm sorry for Your diagnosis. I have stage 3 kidney disease and was once worried about the possibility of IgA nephropathy because it was so many years before I got AS under control. In Dr. Garten's chapter on fasting he mentions that it can remove amyloid, so I have fasted but later found out that kidney function was improving independent of fasting or diet so my physician was convinced I did not have the IgA nephropathy.

I checked out the diets and these are only my opinions but I would make the following observations:

1) IgA nephropathy may not be a primary disease but caused as a secondary condition associated with AS. In active AS we produce a considerable quantity of the dimer IgA and this is in lymph but can be measured in blood.
2) If this condition is secondary to (active) AS, then the insidious disease process should be halted once the AS is put into remission.
3) I am not certain that the proposed diet for this amyloidosis is useful! The liver in response to carbohydrates manufactures plenty of cholesterols and avoiding fats and proteins in favor of carbohydrates does not seem that useful, in general.

I would consider following both NSD and the IgA nephropathy recommendations until AS is put into remission successfully; that is a very narrow range of foods of course, but perhaps it would not take so long to achieve remission especially if begun with a fast 4-6 days or cleansing regimen like Edgar Cayce's Three Day Apple Diet. And I really believe that, eventually, You could transition to a more normal NSD, but of course monitoring kidney function would be the important thing to help decide what to reintroduce and when.

I will try and review food recommendations for You in the coming few days and will follow up soon; You can work on these, also, so we can compare notes.

HEALTH,
John
