Hi All:

Shortly after entering my current nine month flare (the longest I ever had) I began bingeing on watching tragic romance stories (The Crow). They made me cry like a baby, but after the session I noticed that my symptoms were drastically reduced!

Is the cause or treatment partly a psycho-spiritual phenomena? The Green Zones probably are very heart-felt places to live.

BTW: I hardly laugh anymore because most sources of humour for me are getting banned in this overly PC world. I pity the comedians these days. When I do make a joke I am usually laughing alone while people are running away from me; my sense of humour is too esoteric now, but that comes with age. Is "Family Guy" a universal humour?

Joke: How many mice does it take to screw in a light bulb? Two! And don't ask me how they got inside the bulb!

Vague AS symptoms in 20s and early 30s (no diagnosis).
During age 47 (2015) from NSAID use developed complete axial inflammation (started from from skull and progressed down to sacrum). Included psoriasis. Trigger in scull was reverse blockage in a SCUBA mishap in 2013. Straw that broke the camels back was over use of NSAIDs. NSD works well but not perfect. Strong involvement between symptoms and gut integrity.

There are many things re. A.S. that we or they don't understand and perhaps never will. T take it you know that depression and changes in rest patterns are among the things associated with A.S. Yes of course I should have known.

What comes first? Is AS the chicken and mood/sleep the egg? Or are AS and sleep disturbance really just results of an underlying devil?

As soon as I started noticing non-restorative sleep where I felt hot, dry and fatigued upon waking, I also noticed back stiffness and pain. I was in my early twenties.

Given what I know now about how starch drives my sympathetic nervous system (and inflammation) via the microbiome I probably could have gotten better sleeps and hence may have been able to avoid AS symptoms indefinitely using diet efforts back then. A calmer nervous system means a more robust immune system that could stop persistent infections/over-growths and a body getting over-reactive to friendly microbes. Sleep and bugs effect our mood and our moods effect our bugs, but the bugs effecting our mood is more significant.

On the other hand could avoiding inflammation causing foods so early in life reduced my tolerance of them to such a level that one day after eating a hot pepper I would have found myself with an even more serious case earlier on? Probably the former if my vague memory of mouse experiments is accurate.

Depression is a recognised symptom of A.S. As it is only a symptom of A.S. I assume the A.S. must come first followed soon after by depression. Regarding our sleep patterns from my experience the less the pain the better the sleep.
