I think I posted in wrong place but I have never been dxed but have been told I have 4 indicators of as. With the DEA giving doctors such grief about pain meds I am seeing a doc on the 16th of oct. about pain pump. Has anyone ever gotten one or know someone that has this. Thanks Connie

There are various kinds of "pain Pumps". I was once given a gadget that was about the size of a cigaret packet and you wore it attached to your belt. There was a battery and it sent a slight electric shock to the painful aria of your body.

The idea was that the electric shock would distract your brain from the pain. It did seem to work quite well to start with but your body soon became used to it and it's pain reliving effect soon wore of.

So only a temporary answer but worked better for some people than others. One good thing about it, it was unlikely to do you any harm and that is more than can be said about more conventional pain relieving drugs.

Hello, connie:

The pain pump is usually an implanted device that delivers small amounts of a pain-relieving medication. Mostly, these medications are non-narcotic and non-steroidal.

I think this would be a very unsuitable approach for anyone with actual AS; if inflammation is causing pain, why not treat that instead of just the pain? In fact nearly all drug approaches are flawed for long-term application. When the "check engine" light comes on in our cars most of us don't just find ways to ignore it--PAIN is that warning light and most drugs only help us ignore it!

HEALTH,
John

About six years ago I had gastric bypass and lost almost a hundred pounds but with that I was told to never take ibuprofen or arthritis meds because there is a higher rate of bleed outs so I'm really looking at something to help with pain. In Tennessee they treat anyone who has to take pain meds daily like they are all crack-heads so would like something a little different.
