"It's oral ingestion appears to reduce autoimmunity to the body's own CII, resulting in less inflammation in instances of osteoarthritis and rheumatism and benefits to joint health."

Has anyone tried this?
Haven't heard much about this one.

Hmmmmmmmm. Am sceptical. Totally new to me. Have not seen on any of my RSS feeds. No mention anywhere and no mention in other patient groups. Has got a good website, but... Would advise : approach with caution.

Even if the initial claims are BS, it seems that collagen has other prebiotic benefits and feeds beneficial bacteria in the gut:

I have never tried type II collagen supplements but I have seen some of the research supporting its use. Here's a handy collection:

What I do have experience with is plain old gelatin and found that it did wonders for my joints. I first tried it years ago, long before I'd heard of AS, when I was so debilitated by arthritis in my knee that I couldn't walk without pain and stairs were a nightmare. I was only in my mid-thirties. I was told I had advanced OA due to wear and tear which I thought I was way too young to have.

I eventually dropped dairy and it became less painful but it didn't really improve. So I added 2 daily doses of 1 Tbsp gelatin, morning and night, separate from other food.

After a few months my knee improved significantly. It stopped swelling after exercise, and I had less grinding and clicking. My knee feels better now than it did 10 years ago, even though I'm that much older. My back and neck also improved. I now take it periodically when my joints start to hurt, which is really only when I stray from the NSD. I also make bone broths and gelatinous cuts of meat to support both my joints and the lining of my gut.

I can't speak to the science - I only care about my own n=1 results, I don't really care how or why it works. I chose the easy budget option - plain gelatin powder - and I can say with confidence that it was extremely effective. I am now in my 40s and extremely active and I credit gelatin with making that possible. Modifying my diet stopped the disease progression but I believe gelatin actually reversed the damage to my joints.

Suspected SpA. HLA B27, xray, u/sound, blood tests all -ve. Ancient history of plantar fasciitis, SI joint pain, knee arthritis. Recent history of tendinitis, neck pain, debilitating finger pain and stiffness (especially mornings). No diagnosis, no meds.

2010 - stopped eating dairy
2012 - stopped eating wheat
2014 - stopped eating all grains
Jan 2017 - discovered NSD - 98% improvement in symptoms, continually amazed by my results, wish I'd found kickAS sooner
