Hi all,

I have been on diet for almost year now, though improvement is eluding. I have lost 14 kg. I feel muscle has reduced all over, specifically at buttocks also. How to improve the weight while on diet. I take limited amount of non veg due to my iron level.

I really struggled with weight loss at the outset, since until NSD most of my calories were coming from starchy carbs (beans and lentils, sweet potato, tiger nuts, cocoa, etc.) And I also had to eliminate so many foods that were daily staples for me like cheese, grapes, apples, nuts, carrots, etc. I remember feeling faint from the lack of food.

I have adapted mostly by significantly increasing my fat intake:
  • olive oil (marinades, salad dressings, sauteed greens, etc.)
  • butter/ghee on my veg
  • coconut oil and coconut milk
  • fatty cuts of meat and fish (e.g., skin on salmon steaks instead of skinless fillets, chicken legs instead of breasts, pork ribs instead of tenderloin, etc.)
  • fried eggs instead of hardboiled
I also eat a lot of the higher calorie fruits, like sweet cherries, pineapple, and mango. And I eat multiple servings of fruit everyday (blueberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, etc.)

I regained the weight I lost and have stayed steady ever since. I manage to eat about 2000 calories every day this way (a far cry from the first few weeks of about 1100, which was way too low for me to sustain, and I remember thinking in those early days - how will I ever be able to eat enough calories!)

Suspected SpA. HLA B27, xray, u/sound, blood tests all -ve. Ancient history of plantar fasciitis, SI joint pain, knee arthritis. Recent history of tendinitis, neck pain, debilitating finger pain and stiffness (especially mornings). No diagnosis, no meds.

2010 - stopped eating dairy
2012 - stopped eating wheat
2014 - stopped eating all grains
Jan 2017 - discovered NSD - 98% improvement in symptoms, continually amazed by my results, wish I'd found kickAS sooner
