Hi all,

I'm wondering how people are tolerating meloxicam long term. I've taken for the past 5 years and it resolves my pain 100%, but began bothering my stomach 2 years ago. Since then I've been on again off again with the meloxicam, but I can't go off of it for more than a month without reaching my limit pain wise. I'm currently seeking some alternative treatments but haven't discovered how to live without it yet.

Hello. I took Meloxicam and although it helped a lot with the pain I know the effect it has on the stomach (and other organs). It is very hard on your stomach. It is even harder on your liver. The other problem with Meloxicam is that some of the effects don't go away when you stop taking it. For me, even though I am sorely tempted to go back to my old bottle of Meloxicam for relief, I never do. The risks far outweigh the benefits in my mind. Whatever you choose, I hope your journey goes well.

There are various medications you can take to protect your stomach from the damage of some drugs. I have been taking Lansoprazole for many years. It has sorted out my stomach probs. due to being on NSAIDs. for my A.S. There are other similar drugs available. Ask you doc. about such things.

Only trouble I had with it (and I loved the way it worked for me) was that my creatinine had gone high enough that docs wanted me to stop taking it. It's been a month already and I haven't had another blood test to see if it's helping. It never bothered my stomach, which was the reason I took it over all the other NSAIDs I tried.

As long as your labs are good, taking something to help your stomach is an option. NSAIDs can effect different organ systems, though.
