My father and I are very similar. We are both hlab27 positive, he have both suffered from back pain since early 20s. With him it was late teens, although he did get in the Army. So I sent him to the same they my that diagnosed me and treated me with anti tnf. At first this doc told me I didn't have as because my spine looked normal, except some mild disk degeneration. No fusions, but he eventually came to the conclusions, that did have it and started treatment

With my dad. He told him tha his problem was due extreme disk de generation. He has three that are bone on bone. He sent him home with the pain killer ultram. He said he couldn't have AS because he had no fusions. What do yall think about that.

Find another rheumatologist for yr father. Meantime read the ASAS / EULAR Handbook - in the spondy research forum. Back at the beginning, or, google up the subject matter.

Best to you and yr dad.
