I recently wrote an article about my experience with AS and it was published on Elephant Journal. May it uplift you, comfort you, let you know u are not alone and there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am not fully healed, but I am much better. And happier and stronger for having gone through what I went through. Some things make sense only in retrospect. AS has been my greatest teacher.

Hi Kristine!

I am so glad you shared this. I could relate so much of my own story to yours. You captured what it is like to live with chronic illness so truthfully, and yet also beautifully.

You are such an inspiration.

I'm now a KICK AS (and Kick IBD) success story!! After going low starch Paleo to heal my gut, I can now eat nearly all starches, grains & foods without inflammation, flare-ups, or pain. I used a modified SCD diet approach (minus dairy! plus cacao ♥). Cheers to healing & thriving again! I blog at http://www.forestandfauna.com/about/

Kristen,
I read your article and it was lovely. I have thought some of the same things you thought, like --how did go through so much pain and survive? I learned to take life slower and pace myself.
After I changed my diet to 80-90% fruits and veggies and no starch, I felt so much better. I still have pain, but not like before at all.
Once again, good job with your article, you did a great job and many people will relate with it and know they are not alone.

Take care!!

Diet change has improved my RA. I feel best eating raw veggies and some fruits and avoiding grains, sugars, nightshades, beans and dairy. Sed rate dropped from 65 to 19, but it took over a year.

Just saw these replies! Thank you both for the feedback. I am glad you related with my story, that in some way i was able to speak for US, because there is so much that's not understood about chronic illness. But also, that hard though it is, it is also our great teacher, the thing that brings us back to ourselves:-)

Hi everyone! I recently wrote about the experience of chronic illness. What prompted me was someone making a mocking comment about how i have such an easy life, because i look so happy and have to do less than the average person. Ha. People don't know what's going on inside our bodies and how we really feel. Please share the article if it will help someone in any way, or if there's someone living with a chronically ill person who might benefit from reading this.
