Hello Jeff,

I battled severe depression 9 years ago now... you get in a funk and just do not know how to get out of it at times. This AS has so many fronts to battle at times...

Never tried the light as I had always heard it was for seasonal (reduced light) related depression and my case came in August (in Arizona) where there is a lot of light all year round.

Hope you can find some solutions to the depression that work well.

Tim

The way I figured it, there was nothing to lose, but a bit of money.

And since it wasn't a huge amount, and I could afford it, I figured, what did I have to lose?

No negative side effects, so worth trying.

Let us know your results; I'd be interested.

Hope it helps!

Hi Saltire smirk

You are so funny. Picture was taken a few years back and I do get better looking every day, soooo...Thanks for your concern blush No problem it that department.

I hope Mirtazipine works for you. Watch out for increased appetite and weight gain. Maybe taking it at night it will not become an issue.

Eeek, I took that stuff and gained 10 pounds in a week. Was hungry all the time. Told my shrink that I wouldn't take another pill. (back 15 yrs ago--never did. :P) Careful out there, Salty.

Hey Saltire

I am Scotch Irish (REALLY), That might explain my looks a bit. Not a good lookin' one in the bunch. Our family has 2 tartans and our last name means King. Had a castle but lost it in a war. Our family has made it on charm and modesty not looks. tongue3

About 22 yrs ago, I started with Prozac (6 months), which didn't do much and I lost 15 more pounds after losing 20 due to the depression. Ended up thin, suicidal and hospitalized. Got out and was stable and better, but not totally. Was on Surmontil at that time. When things started going south again, there was a rapid trial of several meds that didn't help or caused too many side-effects: Zoloft, Trazadone, Mirtazipine (remeron), Welbutrin, Buspar, a couple others that I can't remember names of. Finally, tried Effexor, which was the magic pill. Had a good response, but doc kept pushing the dose till I finally resolved the depression, with additional help through CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). Held the dose at 450mg for a few years and came off (very long taper) about 10 yrs ago--a year after a bitter divorce. Relief has held, even through the death of a son 8 yrs ago. Of all the meds I took, only Effexor did any lasting good for me. Everyone's chemistry is different. Everyone's depression is different. It takes some trial to find what combination is going to work for you. I hope you find the magic and get some relief. It IS out there. Don't despair.
