When someone says I will feel better if I lose weight, I tell them my meds make me gain weight. I say my meds also give me insomnia, make me grouchy and takes away all of my immunity to all germs. My meds cost more then many people's take home.

One thing that amazes me is when I hear/heard Sunday a.m. at church. "I am so glad you are doing so well. You look great." I want to say "That is why I had to be let out at the door and help getting in and don't stand for songs is because I am so much better." Instead, I said, "Thank you" and "Hope you are well". I want to say, "I have learned how to paint on a lot of health." It just doesn't make things better.

I have enjoyed all of your posts. We really are all in the same boat. It is great to be able to come to a place where "every one knows your name". Our very own "Cheers". :o)

Oh my goodness! You guy's are killing me! Those are hilarious! Wow did I need a good laugh today. The blue stuff and the walking were my two fav's. I wish my memory still worked.

Those that I care about I give them a handout of what A.S. is from the Spondylitis Association. The complication sheet. Tell them that and how much just my infusions are and send them off. I found a really good book that some of the people on here have ordered and agreed that it was good. It is about $6.00 now and called "But You Look Good". They all got that and the fact sheet. They don't offer anymore suggestions such empathy or they don't care.

Glad we have each other too Possi.

Here's another one:

My mom, and I do love her dearly, and I know she means well, but......

Every time we get together, she tells me about her friend, we'll call her Betty.

Anyway, Betty has the same thing I do (no, she doesn't, she has fibro, but anyway) and how Betty goes everywhere, does everything, doesn't let her illness slow her down. If she's feeling bad, she just uses her cane or walker or whatever. She goes everywhere too.

And thus if she can, I can, is how the conversation goes.

She still doesn't seem to understand that for me, sitting in a car for more than to and from work, and then its with ice packs on my upper back, causes nerve compression (neck bone spurs) such that it then takes ~6 months to recover from a single car trip.

While I'm glad that Betty can do X, that doesn't mean I can.

I know mom means well, but........

really, people need to stop trying to make comparisons.

I do what i can. do i wish i could do some of the things i can't? sure.
but i like my body and i try to be kind to it.
i don't like pain and i try to avoid the worst of it.
and i do a lot despite it;
but i'm not going to do one thing that makes it so i can't do anything else for the next few weeks or months.

And another few.......

Did you know that if you freeze a lemon, then grind it up and put it in your food, that will cure all allergies? (this was suggested to me when I was explaining that i was not eating the pizza due to a casein allergy)

Did you know that if you mix a teaspoon of honey with a teaspoon of cinnamon, that that will cure all inflammation and arthritis? Well, I'll be!

But these conversations don't really bother me; i find them fairly entertaining, because the person on the other end really does mean well, and sadly (for them) they actually believe those things.

I did tell him that all the "natural" cures that had some scientific basis and clinical evidence backing them up, I've tried. and for the most part, they might help if someone has a little of this or a little of that, but for the most part, been there, done that.

I mostly take these conversations as people really do want to help one another, just like we all want to help one another here.

Plus gives me an opportunity to educate others a wee bit.

I have been told that apple cider vinegar with black strap molasses stirred in will "cure" all types of arthritis.
