Hello everyone. My name is Trisha. I'm a 24 year old residing in the St. Louis area. I don't want to go into extensive details about my medical history, but I will share the condensed version with you. I've had back pain since I was in high school and I always assumed it was normal. Around age 20 I started experiencing fatigue and pain in my knees and shoulders as well. I had a horrible primary doctor at the time who always dismissed my complaints as nothing and suggested that I seek psychiatric care. He did eventually refer me to a rheumatologist, but she was in the same practice as him. She ran the usual autoimmune labs to check for SLE, RA and Sjogren's. The tests were within normal ranges, and I didn't have an elevated ESR or CRP. I was found to be HLA-B27 positive, but plain x-rays of the SI joints were normal and since the labs weren't showing any inflammation she suggested that I may have fibromyalgia although I had no tender points upon examination. As I was leaving the office, she said that it could be AS "brewing", but that "the treatment for that is chemotherapy anyway". I have been suffering undiagnosed since then, afraid to see another rheumatologist after the way I was treated last time. I eventually switched primary doctors and imaging showed arthritic changes in my mid-back, but they didn't check my SI joints. This week I was informed that I have tendonitis in my left knee, which is the one that hurts more. I have the typical symptoms of inflammatory back pain, and a very minimal case of psoriasis. I also have keratoconjunctivitis sicca, which I know can be caused by RA and SLE. I am aware that AS usually causes different types of eye problems but my eye doctor says AS can cause dry eyes too. Basically it seems to me that there is a good chance I'm suffering from some form of SpA and my primary doctor suggested that I find a rheumatologist a couple of days ago and I would rather not have a repeat of my last experience. I was just wondering if there is anybody on this site who can recommend a good doctor to me or offer any helpful advice. I am in a lot of pain, have a moderate amount of fatigue and morning stiffness too. My condition is greatly reducing my quality of life. I am desperate for relief and probably willing to try anything, if I can find someone caring enough to treat me. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you.
