If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Metheltrexate Rash Question

I started metheltrexate a month ago in hopes of getting my big fat knee down to size so I can walk without a limp and sleep through the night without pain, it's helped with the sleep half the time, and my knee is getting to look better about half the time, but I still have to do the NSD or it swells right back up.
The second day I take it I get itchy on my chest and arms, I read to be careful in the sun. I was wondering if after starting it if anyone noticed changes in vision too. I want to get off prednisone I have been stuck at 7mg for a few months and I wasreally hoping to be sround 5mg by now, maybe the mtx will help me get off it.Thank you.

ValsMum - dunno about MTX affecting vision (should be able to google it up) but I know that pred, and ALL cortisone meds, affect vision and 'can' lead to glaucoma. *Anyone 'with' a DDx of glaucoma, especially NTG (no tension G) should be extra careful about taking the cortisone drugs.

Thank you Molly, I am trying to get off of pred as fast as my knee wil let me. When I taper to fat it gets looking like a grapefruit on my knee, I can't bend it, and aspirating it is great but only lasts for a week or less.

Sounds like it may need an orthopod - what worked me me many years ago was an arhtroscopy and lavage (wash out). Stood me for 10yrs. Yes, I had blown up knee, like a rugger ball, Could not bend nor straighten, went around with it at half cock. V.V. painful. Hell getting ionto and out of my car, but could drive, but only short distances.
Now have chrondromalacia, with slipping knee caps - lovely.
Found and still find that a knee brace is excellent. MUST be one with the metal braces each side and a cut-out for the knee cap. My life saver.
Never had pred for it and refuse pred anyway - right nasty stuff, and, prefer to protect me eyes...

I've taken it for 3+ years and never had issues with my eyes. Did learn the hard way about not using sunscreen...on vacation. Big rash all over.
One month may not be enough time to get to the max benefit. Three months may be better. Just a little more time. Good luck!!

It is a 'known' for eye problems, especially for Glaucoma, Rumble. As we always say though, we are each different - what works for one, does not for the other. What causes side effects in one, does not in the other - just, one does not know in advance. But, cortisone can effect eyes, not immediately, but in the long term.
A person should be aware of all side effects and then it is up to them as to their course of action. Each is responsible for their own body - and one sure does need to be proactive and involved in their own case.

I didn't say it wasn't possible, Molly, only that I had not had any eye problems due to MTX, or anything else. But yes, we are all different. <sigh>
