Was wondering if anyone has experience with this diet? It was recommended to me by a friend. I read in an article on the net that it was a positive for people with auto immune diseases. I'm going to talk to my Rheumy on Monday and see what her input is. I need to lose a ton of weight as I've committed to running an 8k race in August of 13. I've gotta get back in the gym and am hoping this diet will help.

Thanks all!

Hi there,
I think the paleo diet might help. I was going to add that your rheumy might say diets don't work as the only treatment because people try the wrong ones and don't stick to them etc. Sometimes they say they will help along with medicine, but they were taught at medical school to use medication, so don't feel discouraged if your rheumy says they don't work. Cutting out gains, dairy and sugar have helped ALOT! Take care.

YES, YES, YES!! Paleo has literally saved my life! Of course I still don't eat sweet potatoes and a few other root veggies that are starchy, but that is essentially the diet I am on (for life!)

I call myself in a semi-remission, because as long as I stick to the diet I am in remission, if I stray and eat something bad, I'll have a miniflare. Then I fast for about 24 hours and the flare will have left. It's very much cause & effect.

I also lost about 30lbs, which was needed. I've now stabilized at a healthy 125 and I'm 5'6".

+1 for a Paleo diet/auto immune dietary protocol!

It takes dicipline, and in many cases, a good chunk of time for the body to adjust to the new way of eating. You'll be burning less sugar (sugar/starch), and 'burning' more good fat (ex: EVOO, coconut oil). Be patient...

My height and pre/post diet-change weight is exactly that of Lauren above me here.
Good stuff. Just makes you feel, over all, so much better.

Paleo dieter here. I used to post on this board quite a lot until I went off Humira, NSAIDs, methotrexate, sulfasalazine, etc. last summer. With a very strict autoimmune paleo protocol, I've been able to cut every drug but LDN (haven't tried cutting this cause I've been doing so well).

I still have digestive issues and a flare about once per month (usually hormonal with menstruation). I highly recommend the work of people like Loren Cordain (I was part of the last research study), Robb Wolf, Chris Kresser, and Balanced Bites.

I'm still not 100%, but I at least feel I have a future now. smile

I recommend this lifestyle change for anyone who wants to feel better. It works for me. It is nice to never be hungry or having to count calories. Having your tummy flatten out is a nice feature too. I still will get sugar from natural sources(like "Edys" Lime Bars or fruit smoothies). This diet is really better for your liver. Your liver doesn't have to work over time trying to figure out how to process the chemicals, preservatives and food additives in your diet. I have lost 24 lbs. in the last 3 months. It takes awhile for your body to adjust but after that the pounds come off more quickly. If you first start eating this way do not get on a scale till you have been on it for awhile. It is more about food choices than anything else. smile
