i've been on a no-starch diet for a month and have started to get mouth ulcers. i used to get these when i took anti-inflamatories on a daily basis. has anybody else on the no-starch diet had mouth ulcers? do we have any idea where this symptom comes from?

Have you asked your dr if a folic acid supplement will help get rid of them faster? It seems I heard that folic acid helps mouth ulcers. I get them occcasionally too, and I have found no rhyme or reason to it, but it does seem to be when I am in a flare . Hope they go away soon for you. I like the way listerine feels on them when I get them, to me it numbs them a bit, maybe since it is an antiseptic.Take care.

You may want to post on the NSD & Diet Related section of the forums. You may get more people on the NSD respond with their experience. Personally I employ the NSD but never have had mouth ulcer issues since I changed my diet. In fact I used to get them all the time and have not had one pop up since being on NSD.

Are you eating or drinking a lot of something with high acidity like citrus?

Mouth ulcers are very common in a whole lot of autoimmune conditions, usually appearing when flaring a bit. Can also be a sign of deficiency as well. Is your diet well balanced in nutrients?

Mouth ulcers - euwweee. When flaring so do they, horrible and soooo painful Showed them to my doctor here once, he merely shrugged. Know that when 'up' I have to, need to, stsy well clear from acidic fruits especialy pineapple. They attack inside cheeks, especially the right inside cheek, and also edges of tongue.

Darn AS - so full of co-morbidities. Sigh.

ditto exactly what molly said:

when i flare is when i get them. and then must stay clear of all things acidic:

pineapple, all citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, vinegar.

and i get them inside cheeks like molly explained, but i think its the ones i get around the edges of my tongue that drive me the craziest.

i look in the mirror and can see my tongue pili inflamed. the inflamed pili about double the size of the others and red.

but in between flares, can eat anything i wish, anything acidic, and on mouth ulcers.

so for me, its not the acidity that brings them on. rather when they are there due to flaring, then they are sensitive to acid.

just like molly explained.

colgate's orabase seems to form the best protective coating over them when i get them.

maybe i should look into folic acid; wonder if that would help?

the one thing that knocks them right out: prednisone. last month they were part of my flare. took pred. and they were gone within the day.
