I am going to start humira soon. I have done all the medical tests required and am waiting on Insurance to approve.

My original first goal wasto be able to start mowing my own lawn again. then Ironing, then vacuuming (but maybe i will keep my monthly housekeeper just the same) and quilting... but now my husband asked if i can golf again... And so i was wondering if anyone had success with this?

shocked Well I wouldn't think golfing would be good for anyone with A.S. because of the sudden and swift twisting. Just thinking about it makes my disc' bulge!!!!! Cricky!!! I would really ask your Dr. about that. I would have a real heart to heart with him and ask him about where you are with this and what you should be doing and not doing.

If you are not used to doing anything then take it real slow if you feel the Humira is helping you. Don't overdue it and then suffer. Try vacuuming half of the house first or dusting. Go slow and work your way up to other things but I have to say down with golfing like Alan and he would know, he has had "The Big Surgery" for A.S.

I guess it was just hopeful thinking. I used to enjoy playoing golf once or twice a year. I have nice graphit clubs that were a lot better than the steel ones I started with (and for 3 years I worked at Callaway Golf Canada so I really got to love the game). It was something I used to really enjoy with my husband and we are hoping to be doing more things just the two of us again. I will ask my rhumy. My fam doc doesn't think I need to rtestrict anything but. My experience has told me differently. Also I am not too damaged yet but I am worried that golfing again would cause some. I haven't golfed in 4 years because of a lumpectomy and sever pain my right shoulder (that turned out to be related to AS)

I try to play at least weekly if not more when the weather and I are on the same page. There are a few golfers on KA.

I can say that golfing with AS takes some adjusting..LOL you'll probably have to work out a swing revision that doesn't hurt. Carts over walking some days, things like that. I find that while it can hurt some to play, I feel better afterwards. It loosens up the stiff joints, and just being outside getting some exercise improves everything.. Take it slow.. While the Humira helps make it possible for me to golf, it hasn't helped my game one bit..

Thanks Chris..
So glad there is hope. And no worries I dont believeing in converting the unfaithful or even trying. If you dont love it already thats fine by me. the fewer people on the course the better. I am SLOW! :-)

Dear NNC,

My husband (also an AS Kicker) and I both golf. I'm on humira, he doesn't take a biologic. I've golfed with and without biologics, but have much better stamina *with* them.
I think any damage that has occurred due to your AS / over conditions won't be reversed necessarily (though this isn't strictly true, I know some people who feel they've had better movement in areas of fusion post biologics). For me, humira keeps the pain at bay, and gives me more energy, so I'm not dragging my sorry AS around the second 9. Both my husband and I feel that our spines feel better for having golfed - there aren't many exercises that take your spine through as many ranges of motion as golf does.
Please do keep hope alive. This blasted disease takes so much from us, that we shouldn't let it steal that too. Happy golfing.
Fore!
Jeanna x
