TV Programme in Welsh... Colonoscopy - very interesting. Showed removing a lovely polyp. Then, haemorroids - that was a good one: three big'uns. Putting in a stent - very delicate. Now got angina discussion. But as I don't spk Welsh <LOL>

Cor, we don't this on English TV progs! Not fair. Oh, It's over.

There have been some pretty amazing "embarrassing bodies" programmes that have been very graphic too. What I don't get about those is that they ask people who have problems they are too embarrassed to go to their doctor about to come and tell (and show) all on national TV. Am I missing the logic here?

You - an 'I' both - are missing the logic... Mebbe they are exhibitionists... At least in the Welsh one, one did not see the patient's face, nor sit in on 'any' consultation, nor owt about them, only the *actual intervention. No exhibitionists!

The surgeons were rather nice though...

Oh yes, and NO flighty female doctors in flippy shosrt skirts an no one like that fella either - shakes head (they could cut half that programme!) Though, will give it, it is educational. (Some of the 'results' make one squirm - and fear for the youth out there. Ger-Yer!!)

Errr, no, Magician. Welsh language is Celtic Gaelic. Very old language. Scots Gaelic. Cornish Gaelic. Irish Gaelic. Breton Gaelic. Welsh Gaelic. Each of the Gael languages are somewhat different. Bretons (French) can understand Welsh Gaelic and speak a bit, but Welsh find vice-versa no. Yes, odd. Scot and Irish, no, not really easily understood betwixt and between. Dunno about Cornish Gaelic. Think the Basque language is considered a Gaelic language as well.

Parts of Wales they will speak Welsh before English - murder when you visit, cause foreign language - and they 'love' to play tricks on the English. Wales is part of the British Isles but the Welsh would be horrified to be termed English!

Clear as mud, yes? <LOL>

P.S. The Gaelic most spoken in the world is Welsh followed by Breton. Scots Gaelic is really only spoken way up in the Highland and Islands. Irish Gaelic is still taught in schools, but not spoken so widely as the Welsh Gaelic is spoken in Wales.

Wales has definitely gone officially bilingual, so lots of teaching in the schools, as well as street signs in welsh, and official information in both english and welsh.

The Western isles of scotland are strongly gaelic as well - Skye, Lewis and Harris, and again its taught in the schools as well as in gaelic (as the first language) preschools, and street signs (on Lewis anyway, can't remember Skye) are in gaelic - makes for interest when you are an english speaker, reading a map with english names, and whats on the sign is completely different.

Orkney and Shetland are interesting too - not celtic, but norse influenced, with a strong dialect that comes from the old Norn language - its different enough to cause some confusion if you aren't from there, but not so different that its a completely separate language. Dialect isn't an "official" language, but you will often see it written, and definitely hear it all the time. Shetland is a similar kind of dialect, but can seem so strong that at first if listening to a native speaker you would think they were speaking a completely different language. If you want to hear an example try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kglDVOfqNTE (its about a farmer selling his wool)
