Hope the info helps many.

Oh no, Molly...I didn't mean by you!!! blush I meant that I don't recall ever hearing that at the end of a Pepto-Bismal commercial or a Nexium commercial to the extent that I've heard the serious side effects of other medications, I hope you did not think that I was referring to you, our FABULOUS KA information Officer...you do a FANTASTIC job...always!!! 1cup

Love, Michelle heart

Dearest gal - bless. No, I meant that you won't hear owt from the pharma Cos. (don't expect it|). It is only when they are outed on a medication and get their wrists slapped by, say, the FDA, and told to 'Black Box' that they 'start' to put in the provisos and etc etc...! <VBG> There has not been that much media or medical attention to these problems, but hopefully the door is opened a tad. Possibly such meds do have a niche, but not to the extent that they are handed out like sweeties...Ho-Hum

Heigh, I don't deserve those kinda kudos - heck, only a little ole lady who likes to 'dig' some! <LOL>

You take care hon - many wishes your way - (((HUGS))) hugss

I was warned about this by my own GP, so I've tried to warn a few people here that there are long-term consequences in taking "stomach protectors" to continue taking daily NSAIDs. Kind of gave up on that front. It's hard to argue against what other people's doctors tell them, and especially when someone else chimes in who has been taking that stuff for years but hasn't noticed problems... yet.

I try to take as less medicines for GERD as possible. Eat several small meals a day, avoid many foods esp spicy/fatty/oily ones, do not lie down for upto 3 hours after food etc. I still occasionally need to control this through meds -some times needing PPI meds for upto a week to bring it under control. As long as I am very careful about life style I can afford to be med free for 90% of the days. These medicines have bad side effects and screw up the digestive system and everything else. A horrible disorder really to add to the collection. Ram.

Way to go Ansram - sensible handling. Yes, certainly don't want to add to our collection of co-morbidities! Heck, no way...

Ansram - I think I have come to that kind of strategy as well. I dumped the PPIs in favour of going back to ranitidine. If I take ranitidine constantly then it makes problems worse, including really slowing down stomach emptying (which means I then need metoclopramide to counteract it). What I do is at the first sign of heartburn, or reflux or not feeling right I take a short course of ranitidine, then stop it again. I'm off it far more than on. Low starch also minimises the need for stomach protectors for some reason with me.
