I have a dilemma which I know already what the "accepted" answer is, but it goes mightily against my grain. I was on Embrel (50 mg pen) for 7 of the 8 weeks that was purchased through pharmacy. My doctor and I have decided to discontinue this medical trial. I am not concerned with getting any money back on the remaining pen, my concern is that it is $500 worth of medication and there is absolutely no way to make it of benefit to anyone.

No doubt Federal Law forbids "dispensing" without a prescription and also dispensing probably includes making it available to anyone under any circumstances, not just selling it... so I guess both me and anyone this medication might otherwise have helped, are out of luck.

Just venting I guess - anyone with other opinions may feel free to send me a private message or to my private e-mail.

If its in a totally sealed package, is it possible to give it back to your doctor for them to pass on?

I just started Embrel after being on Remicade for 3-yrs.
Remicade was not working...I've been on Embrel for 3-inj. It hasn't started kicking in yet. Miserable.

Why did you quit Embrel???

I've got to start feeling better soon.

If it hasn't been opened, maybe the pharmacy could take it back and see if a local doctor could use it for a needy patient? In my area, there are some doctors that gather up single dose packaging meds from nursing homes (deceased patients, etc) to use for this purpose. Enbrel is a little more special than hypertension meds, but the pharmacist may be able to help.

I had $4000 worth of Humira that I couldn't use after the first dose. I had a friend in another town who was thrilled to death to get it. Also, there is a free pharmacy affiliated with mission work that our church does. They accept packaged things like that to give to the needy.

Someone will be greatly blessed.

Hello Bill,

This has been posted here in the past... you could search on it.

The generousity is obviously nice motive... but doing so could lead to a great deal of liability.

Personally I would try and return to doctor or pharmacy if still sealed.
