Common misconceptions about science I: “Scientific proof”
Why there is no such thing as a scientific proof.

(snip...) "The knowledge that there is no such thing as a scientific proof should give you a very easy way to tell real scientists from hacks and wannabes. Real scientists never use the words “scientific proofs,” because they know no such thing exists. Anyone who uses the words “proof,” “prove” and “proven” in their discussion of science is not a real scientist." (more...)

Good article. Would be nice if GPs realised that, and in particular there is no such thing as a straight yes or no on any kind of test they do.

Didnt have science at my school, nor brains, we just had to walk in single file and be quiet!! Anyway you do realise that there is no proof of there being no such things as scientific proof..........is merely opinion and opinions are not proof of anything, thus my advice to you all is never to take anyones advice..!

Very good article. Thanks, Molly!

It's not only GPs that I wish would read this, but a few people making other claims that things medical are proven fact.

Also, archeologists. I love archeology. I don't love being told that because the guy who found the archeological site 200 years ago posited a theory, that's the only answer to what was actually there, when all other evidence points to other answers. Take the Sphynx and those erotion marks, for instance .... Oh, don't get me started. wink

Warm hugs,
