Well I went to see my otho surgeon today. This was a follow up visit from 2 weeks ago at his clinic. At that time I went to see him over my knee ( it has been really bad lately) and he gave me a shot of heavy duty cortisone and wanted to see me in his office. Well the shot really didn't help . So today he asked all kinds of questions and then said that I could get a shot every 3 months to see if that would help. I said that was fine with me if that was what he recommended. He then looked at my last xray and said nope that will not help it is time for the replacement. He is hoping to get me in this summer.

Valerie - yes, nerve wracking, but good to get the replacement. And you certainly do not want too many cortisone shots. Any idea what prothesis he will use? Well, summer is nigh upon us, so at least warm weather to recover in.

You can breathe a sigh of relief now - Soon be there.

I'm due for a complete knee replacement on May 3rd but hit a snag today. I had to have a back tooth extracted as the root canal failed after 7 years.
I couldn't believe the contortions I could still do in a chair as that tooth just wouldn't come out so it had to be drilled to bits etc...ouch ouch ouch.
Might have to have the surgery pushed back now because of this but it had to be done first as I couldn't have it done after for months and months. Risk of infection....

Good luck!

I do not think it should delay your surgery too much. Your source of infection , i.e. tooth , is out, so there is no more bacteraemia.

Hi Molly
I didn't think to ask what type. I went to the appointment thinking that he would want to scope it. I knew the replacement was close. I really do hope that it will be the summer I guess it will depend on what OR time is available..
I agree a person should not have too many shots so the replacement is the best option.

Sorry to hear about the tooth but I am glad that you had it looked after. May 7th is still a little off you may be fine to get the replacement. you can always call your surgeon's office and ask.. Good luck

I had both of my knees replaced in 2006, 8 months apart. The replacements were Zimmers. I can't say enough good things about them. I went from taking pain meds and using a cane to get around to being able to go on hikes with the grand kids. It is a rough, painful recovery. Start doing quad sets now to build up your muscles. That will help a lot on how well your recovery goes.
