I just started Humira one week ago. I feel like crap! No fever or any other bad side effects. But my pain and fatigue have shot up. Is this normal? Can I expect improvement with time. Or is this an indication that this med is not for me. I was so hopeful that this was going to be the answer to my pain and fatigue issues and now this.

Just as an FYI I am on 10mg prednisone and have been unable to get off it. Every time I try to go down I start to flare in regards to joint pain, muscle fatigue and Crohns symptoms. So the plan is not to alter that till we see how the Humira does.

Regards,
James

Hi James,
I was on Humira but it didn't do anything for me. I did start a flare while on it and the Dr. switched me to Remicade but I still continued to flare so I was put on a Medrol pack of Prednisone to get over it. It was the worst one of my life too. Now I am on my Remicade infusions every 6 weeks and haven't flared again but remain on 5mg.s of Prednisone. I also take Sulphasalazine and MTX. Nobody wants to be on all of these med's but a persons got do what a persons got to do just to have some quality of life.
Call your Dr. and let them know what is going on. Might have to tweak your Prednisone for awhile.

Hi Pea,

Thank you for your response. I guess I should have explained a bit better. I don't think that I am just having a flare and the Humira is not preventing it. But rather I think the Humira is causing it. I only ever feel the way I do now. When I over exert myself. Then with rest I feel better. But since about 24hrs after my first injection I am been feeling worse and worse. If I wake up feeling the same as I did this morning. I will definitely call the doc. I am somehow just hoping that it is just some initial reaction.

Regards,
James

Thank's for explaining that more. You could be allergic to a component in it. Most TNF blockers have mouse DNA in them and some people have an adverse affect to that or it could be something else in it. I would call your Dr. He might switch you to another one.

James,

I felt the same way when I tried humira. I was also taking prednisone and I had to increase it a few mgs becasue I felt like the bad reaction I had to humira put me a worse "flare", if that's what you want to call it. My knees got worse(swollen) and my legs hurt from top to bottom. I only took 3 injections total because I was afraid of taking another injection which I was sure was making me feel worse. Pretty weird, but it's nice when you come here to kickas and other people tried humira and did not feel any different or felt worse , like me, you don't feel so alone.

It works for a lot, I'm just not one of them.

Hope that helps a little.
