Hey Fergus,
You sound almost bitter about Ireland's rugby right now. It's not so long ago that they were pretty amazing, I'm sure it'll return soon. England haven't really shone since the 2003 World Cup either, but we're getting there.

I visited Gran Canaria long ago, I stayed in a complex that was coastal but not in a town - Taurito I think? Bonus was that it was only a very short bus ride to Puerto de Mogan which I found to be just lovely - away from the package tours.

More recently I visited Fuerteventura with my wife Jeanna (Strutsy here on KA). We stayed in a stunning but bank-breaking hotel near Corralejo. If I win the lotto maybe I'll spend a month or two there. First I have to enter the lotto though....

Hello Fergus,

I have Irish friend here in Argentina that is rugby player.. he has about the same attitude as you regarding their chances. Makes the same comments about the club teams.. that their performance does not carry over to National team.

I do believe All Blacks will have to do something amazing not to win this...

England beat Argentina 13 to 9.

Neither squad could make their kicks. Commentators here were very upset with penalty given to England that they then used to gain field position and led to their try. Honestly I do not know enough of rugby to know if good or bad call.

Overall, England probably was more deserving team.

Good luck to you in next match.

Tim

As an English man who used to play rugby, I can't say it was a particularly comfortable game to watch. seriously thought we'd threw it away. Lots of work needed for both sides. Though I've followed nearly ever game so far and I must say with the exception of Wales, every team is quite below par so far. Hopefully that means the best is yet to come.

Agreed Ricky. Wales were great today, deserved to win really, pity they didn't because it would have shaken things up nicely.
England had a bit of a shocker, but as the English say, a win's a win....

Congratulations Ireland! A famous day in Irish rugby history - I hope you saw the game Fergus.

Was a cracking game. Could be good news for England too. Our potential progression to the final could now be easier than first anticipated. Well done Ireland though, well deserved.

Yes sir I certainly did! I only started believing after 60 minutes. Far too much quality in that Irish team to throw away that type of position. Our problem has been the first 60.
Fingers crossed it wasn´t a one off. This squad is too good to go home early (when they play).

Ricky you´re getting a bit ahead of yourself my friend. You´ve only played one game and already you talk about the final.

I was supposed to meet someone at 1o´clock today. I totally forgot I was too busy walking around with a silly grin on my face.

Last thing: I think I know that hotel in Fuerteventura. Its a bit isolated yet very big. There is only it and the beach if I am correct. To my mind all the islands are worth a visit as they are all different from each other. Some are absolutely beautiful.

I saw the Ireland vs Australia game on replay following morning, the last 20 minutes without knowing who had won. Was exciting game. My Irish friend here is very happy.

England beat Georgia, Georgia seemed to give them more than expected until final 20 minutes.

United States beat Russia, watched 2nd half of that game on replay and later caught first half. Good result for States who are not really a rugby nation.

Well Tim, that was a good one wasn´t it? The Argentines are almost into the 1/4 finals. It was last gasp but that´s the way we like it.
I reckon Argentina are the best value for money at the World Cup. They leave nothing in the cupboard when it comes to World Cup, they throw the kitchen sink at everyone and if you´re not ready they´ll beat you. Up to now it is their only tournament and boy, do they enjoy it! We´ll see what next week and beyond holds for them.
Of the games this weekend as always an upset is unlikely but I think the best value for money could be Scotland. Scottish vs English games have been close the last couple of years, might be interesting but me thinks the Saxons will pull through.

P.S. I´ll be Mr. misery guts if there is an upset inthe Irish game. LOL
