another walk along the erie canal today, and saw a great blue heron first flying, then sitting in a tree a bit above the water, so still, waiting to catch his prey, what a site to see! they are just so big and majestic to me.

walking: 3 miles, 70 minutes

and yes, wanted to add, that this will be just the motivation i need on the days i don't feel like moving........

while i've never liked indoor exercising: running around and around on a track, or some aerobics type class, i love anything aerobic and outdoors, and the better the scenery, the more i enjoy it.

What a great idea!
I just got some information about a heated pool that has arthritis classes. I may not be swimming laps with you all, but I'll keep track of my time exercising in the water in the classes.
I grew up swimming in the ocean, so never got really good swimming skills. I can swim, just never really got a proper technique going. Here's a question: is it *okay* to sign up for laps if you swim slowly, awkwardly, changing strokes all over the place, like starting with back stroke and then switching to a crawl? From what I've seen at pools, not that I've much experience, but it seems as though the swimmers are fabulous and just doing so well!
Thanks,
Jan

I swim at our local pool and fitness clib which has a hot tub. I WISH I had a pool and sauna in my own yard, but I am not quite that wealthy... Actually not even close no

Your times are giving me inspiration to swim faster.

Go TEAM! clap

Yay! Another teammate! In my experience pools usually have a slower lane. Ask the lifeguards, they're there all the time and know what goes on. There's usually pool etiquette that governs whether or not you can split lanes, or whether everyone swims clockwise or counter clockwise. It's time exercising that counts, not how fast you get there!

Go TEAM! clap

jan,

just wanted to encourage you to do the laps! as erica said, ask a little for how the pool handles faster vs slower swimmers, but really everyone should be able to swim the laps they want / need to swim.

i remember when my sister needed to swim (laps) for physical therapy (she was in a minor accident a long time ago but good as new now), she was a young very shy teenager who was afraid to do the laps because she was afraid of getting in others' ways; i went with her to encourage her that it really would be ok and it was.

usually if you ask someone who's lane you want to join, usually i've found that its easy to work it out with the other person. at most pools i was the slower swimmer. only when i found a therapeutic pool (in the other city i lived in, none here frown ) was i the faster swimmer. but in either case it always worked out. and i always switched up the strokes.

happy swimming smile
