My Mother has suffered with Lupus for many, many years but the last two years have been awful....she's been in the hospital for most of them...well she broke her ankle in a fall and had to have surgery on it and then a month ago, she had surgery on her left shoulder to repair a torn rotator cuff and to clean out the joint, it never healed and my sister just called me, to say that now she's septic, her blood oxygen saturation was 50 this morning (I didn't know it could go that low and not kill you right then) so, of course she was hallucinating, very scary, she's now in route back to Houston, she was only home for 2 days when this set in, they took her to a local hospital first but they said she needed an ICU so they're moving her but they told us that they'd be surprised if she makes it there....I'm just heartbroken...I alwats knew this day would come but I'm not ready for it...

Oh I am so so sorry to hear this. I will be keeping you and your mom and family in my heart and prayers today. Lupus is a nasty disease. I have had a couple of close calls with it and have just learned to live day by day and not be too worried about it. I pray that the hallucinations won't be too frightening for her. I was sick enough one time to hallucinate and it was frightening except that I knew what I was seeing wasn't real. I hope she is with it enough to know that also.

It is so hard to lose your parents regardless of their age or their health.

Hugs, sweetheart, I just don't have words. Just turn to the Lord.

Hugs.

Thanks so much Joyce, I immediately thought of you when my sister called me...I also don't know what to do as far as going to the hospital, I'm on two immunosuppressants and I'm suppose to stay away from the public, especially hospitals....I think I'm just going to don my mask and go anyway but Mike is telling me to wait until my rheumy calls back, he put in a call to him....

Michelle,
As your mother enters into this what could be her last days with you, we offer you our love and prayers. The good times from the past as well as the hope we have for the future can make such a difference now.
We don't know the future, but if she steps into the next life, I am sure you will have confidance that there was alot of love in your family.

As a Mom, I know your Mom would tell you that you had so many good times together and to not take a chance on getting sick. Being in your shoes at one time also, I went ahead and went to spend time with my Dad and I did end up in the hospital with a bronchial infection that I couldn't get rid of because of my bronchiectasis. I did not however wear a mask or even be too careful over anything. When Mom died, I was more careful in the hospital but she died at home thankfully and I was sitting there with her.

I would talk to your dr. and if you decide to not go, just spend that time with friends and family and be thankful for all of the years that you had with her.

I know I wouldn't want my daughters to take a chance. Just decide when you make up your mind that you won't regret it later.

Sweetie, I have shared with my husband this a.m. and we are hurting so much for you. Wish I was there with you. We are in Spirit.

Hugs and much love.

Thank you for the prayer of encouragement, it brought me inner peace and calmed me down, I know that this is something that I have no control over and it's something that we all must face at some point in our lives, thank you again, my friend....

Thank you for the wonderful advice Joyce and for sharing your story with me, I just got word that Mom has double pneumonia, sepsis, a myocardial infection and renal failure...

Thanks Kevin....your words have brought me some comfort, Mom will be in a better place, she suffers from Lupus and her quality of life has been almost non-existant for several years now...
