Yes. This was blogged on by Dr Lim, Sydney, Australia. He concluded as per the article : "In the end, however, all the investigators agreed that it boils down to an individual choice by patients and clinicians as to whether triple therapy or biologicals will provide the most benefits for the cost."

Must say that that vile Sulfasalazine/Azulfidine almost put me in hospital. Horrific side effects. Shudder.

First of all, I think that I have been a patient of Dr. Lim of Sydney in the past. I liked him. He was willing to suggest Glucosamine to his patients.

Second, with regard to Sulfasalazine, I probably dodged a bullet with that one. This happened in Canberra where I was put on Sulfasalazine until my next visit with the specialist. My ANA was on the rise and Sulfasalazine is contraindicated for Lupus. He pulled me off it immediately. By chance, I had been having a minor reaction after taking the drug, because it left my tongue tingling and probably getting larger. As soon as I stopped the medication that problem disappeared. Bullet dodged.

This means that for some the triple DMARD therapy is simply not going to work.

At present I am on back to 20mg of Methotrexate which I tolerate very well, and double the dose of Plaquenil. This time I am tolerating it. The difference is to ensure that I have it after meals, not before meals. The issue I had involved stomach craps and all that occurs with such cramps. It would seem that the issue might have been due to IBS and I fixed the problem by increasing my intake of yoghurt plus I take something to de-tox my liver.

I do wish the biologics weren't so expensive, then maybe everyone could just focus on the most effective drugs, and not try to take these short cuts.
