Has anyone ( Maggie) noticed, that the Leafs ( Maggie) are ahead of the Sens (Maggie) in the standings???
anyone???
Paul
Shutup !!!!!!!!!!
I wondered how long it would take you.
This is sooooooo bad. I wonder if Roger Nelson did more of the coaching than we realize and now he's not there. What do you think ?
Maggie
(feeling sheepish)
I think Roger did a lot more than he ever got credit for!
I really do hate to gloat!
Sorry about this Maggie....hahahaahahaha
Paul
I must say - this really sucks
We are not even close for heavens' sake!!
Well - it ain't over 'till the fat lady sings
Things will turn around. You may even have to eat crow before the season is over.
Maggie
I also did neglect to mention you have a couple of games in hand...all is not lost....they are still a pretty good team! But just not right now.
Paul
We are going to see them play against Philly on Dec 1st.
Fingers crossed !!!!!!!!!!
Maggie
Does Philly still have an NHL team??
I think the Sens are looking up now.
Hey - they play the leafs this weekend. !!!!!!!!!!
Maggie
Maggie,
Perhap's a friendly wager??
Leafs lose...I'll post a picture of the funniest face I can make...Sens lose...you do??
What do you think about that??.....have faith in those Sens??
Paul
Well - considering that they lost tonight, I'm not sure it's a good idea but what the heck.......your on !!!!!!
{ I',m going away tomorrow till Sunday, so I'll catch up to you then.)
Hey - where's that Philly fan these days ?
Maggie
Maggie,
I thought that surely after that Philly slander Mike would come out swinging.
Paul
Hmmmm, I just might have that pic too Maggie. Will have to see if I can dig it out.
It was the one when we were eating last year at Johns house.....remember the one I am talking about?
YOU MONKEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hells Bells !!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, here I am then.
I hope they do better on Monday night - I'm gonna be there.
Hey - this is sportsy news. On the weekend, we went to Lake Placid. We watched the World Cup 2 man Bobsled Competition. It was awesome to watch. We climbed all the way up to the start gate and watched them take off. Canada won too
Maggie
Lucky for you
Nice picture Maggie....have you done something with your hair??
Lori....I would love to see that pic
Paul
Lori's life is hanging by a thread right now
Maggie

Lori,
I think deep down inside....in her soul....she want's us all to see " the pic"
C'mon Lori......hmmm...photo island huh???
Paul
Sorry Paul
I checked photo island earlier today. I had to wipe those old ones out to put in the party pics from this year.....Maggie was not there, so no embarassing pics this year.

I find it hard to believe there could be any funny pictures of Maggie anyway.
Maggie,
it looks like the Sens are on a roll....one in a row....
Paul
Well that wasn't very funny !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Smarty pants !!!!!!!!
Maggie
The Sens won again Maggie....playing decent hockey again it seems...ooh...the LEAFS won their 7th in a row....wow...there's a good team
Paul
Oh you had to go and spoil it all didn't you
Sens ARE playing well now. I don't imagine the leafs will be able to keep up the pace though.
Maggie
Hey ..I have an idea.....if the Leafs win 10 in a row...Lori will post that funny pic of you....Lori??
She can't find it !!!!!!!!!!
Anyway - the idea is probably redundant
Maggie
Lori....you sure know how to get her going!
You could just send it to me and I'll post it...that would get you off the hook....
No you couldn't !!!!!!!!!!!!
Love you Lori
Maggie
Never you mind. Just concentrate on your silly leafs.
Nice to see your pic
Where IS that Philly fan huh ???????????
Maggie
Love you too Maggie.....
I think I lost the disc that that pic was on.....Sorry Paul!
Well Paul - what happened to the lovely leafs tonight ?????????
Maggie
{trying not to snicker too loudly)
MAGGIE!!
You've been waiting a while to say that huh??
I can't say I don't deserve the snickers...
I was upest that they lost....until I peeked at the standings again....need I say more??....hehehee
We're improving - we'll get there
Been extremely busy and this is the first time I have checked this part of the forums for a while... You may have noticed who is atop the standings...hmmmmmmm
Mike
Also this time of year is just the hockey prelims... In Philly the story is the Eagles and their quest for the Super Bowl...
Mike
Philly is having a good year Mike...too bad about those Sens...they stink this year!
Paul
HEYYYYY - Watch it !!!!!!!!!
You'll be eating crow before the season's over
Maggie

Noooooo Waaay Cristina
Hey everyone - the Sens are coming right along - did you notice ?
Maggie
I know....I just had to throw that in there..
I do love watching my Kings and Ducks though! (even when they suck!)
Cristina
Kings and Ducks???...Cristina...it could be worse...there's this team the Ottawa Sens well....Toronto's senior citizen ladies broom ball team could beat them
Paul
OK Paul
What about that Team in Toronto? Whats there name Maggie? I think it is The Toronto Wrinkled Leafs or something like that. LOL
John
Toronto Twits
LOL!!!
Cristina
Hey John!
Are you sure your not taliking about the Toronto fans????
Actually Maggie...the Sens are on quite a roll now.....
Paul
I know
Unbeaten in 8 games
I hear Stanley calling
Maggie
Stanley is calling the LEAFS Maggie!
who is this stanley guy...?
dr. Livingston, I presume...the guy with orange sunshine...?
Paul
If Stanley is calling the LEAFS he must have been given the wrong Number or he is calling to say Nice Try and see you in Ottawa.
John
John,
If we win the cup....our bandwagon would be so long it would stretch all the way to Ottawa. It's amazing how many people are all of a sudden Leaf fans here!
Paul
Oh really Ben
Just keep watching the SENS hockey - at the end of the season, you will see them holding the Stanley Cup high in the air
Maggie
Does anyone notice what a lot of games Ottawa Sens are winning ? HUH ?
Maggie
nope...
actually Maggie I have...they won AGAIN tonight!
hey...so did Toronto...sheesh
Paul
I KNEW you would have noticed
I'd love to be at the next Sens / leaf game in Ottawa - only the really expensive tickets available - and that was before Christmas. Stupid leafs even have fans here in Ottawa - I just don't understand it
We'll beat you in the playoffs - I feel sure about it
Maggie
Stupid leafs even have fans here in Ottawa - I just don't understand it
That is too funny Maggie!
It's annoying !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually though, the rivalry is fun ( especially since we are going to win
)
Maggie
What's that song about an ant..a mountain...high hopes or something??
It's REALITY Paul
ooh....confidence....hope it's still there after we do battle shortly!
Paul
He He - we'll talk after the game tomorrow.
Maggie
Damn!!!!!!!
We lost Mats to a suspension!!
There's my excuse!
Just in case....not that I'll need it...or anything...right Doug!.......oh...Doug......we lost Mats....you there???
Yeah - I heard that
Probably gone home to "Mommy "
( for those that don't know - this relates to a TV commercial )
With or without him - won't make any difference we will win anyway .
I hopeMaggie
That was a good commercial......I just read that your captain guaranteed the cup this year??....Holy smokes...awfully brave to make a statement like that. I'm sure during the playoffs the team the Sens will be facing will post that article in their dressing room.
Hey Maggie
How did you like that game tonight???? What was it 7-1 for our SENS???
Sorry Paul.
John
Oh was it ??
I watched it
Gee, no matter how hard the refs try to help the leafs - they still can't make it.
Sorry, Paul ( tee hee )
Maggie
OUCH!
Spanked hard last night!
But....I am a Leaf fan after all....will bounce back...sheesh!
Thought of you this morning Maggie when I saw the score 7-1 in favor of the Sens.... figured there would be a post
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Tim,
As soon as the whuppin started I realized also that there would be one....also knew John would make an appearance! I suppose I deserve the ribbing.....us Leaf fans can be a bit much sometimes. WAIT UNTIL NEXT TIME!
Paul
Leafs? Sens?
If any of you Ontario folks want to see what the Cup looks like, just c'mon across the river and we can show you three of them here in Hockeytown!
Flyers?
I think we floated that boat a few years ago. Didn't a 4-0 sweep teach you guys anything?
(Runs as fast as his bamboo spine will allow and tries to duck at the same time!)
Woohoo! Go Wings!
Brad
Now that is more like it!!! GO WINGS!
Sorry Brad/Cara,
I consider a good year in hockey any year that the Wings do not win the Cup (then I do not have to listen to my uncle all year).
Goalie down here goes for the record tonight in Minnesota for shutouts.
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Well Tim, you won't have to listen to your uncle this year then
You'll have to listen to Cheerfull and Maggie instead
Maggie
More "whuppin " to follow Paul
I hate to admit it Paul, but you are actually one of the more gentler kinder leaf fans. Some of them are pretty obnoxious Maggie
Thanks ...i think!
Actually I never met an Ottawa fan I never liked.....actually never met an Ottawa fan!
Badda bing!
From the centre of the hockey universe....TORONTO!
Paul
Centre of the hockey universe - heck, I thought you folks believed Toronto to be the centre of the entire universe.
Leafs lost tonight
Maggie
hahahahahahaha....too funny Maggie.
Ever noticed it's much colder in Ottawa than in Toronto?
the hockey team too!
Go Leafs Go!
John....your up...
Paul
Yes it is colder in Ottawa.
We are TOUGH !!!!!! So are the SENS.
Ya know, I really think we're gonna win
Maggie
ps Leafs lost tonight
so did Detroit I believe
Edited by Maggie on 01/11/04 01:06 AM (server time).
Hey Maggie
Did you ever notice that the Leafs always choke around the middle of January and Look it's almost that time. I really feel bad for the fan like Paul and Doug that have to go through this every year. You know they always start planning the big Party and then out of nowhere they get a look at Ottawa kicking AS* and moving up as they go Down.
John
Hi Tim,
I would imagine that it gets old listening to your uncle......I would still like to see the Wings do well this season.
Are you ready to brave the cold? Have you gone back home yet to visit? Here in Michigan it has been colder than....MN is even colder.
Take care,
Cara
Hi Cara,
Yes it does get old since the Wings have a good organization
Have not had to brave cold yet... waiting for job interview at the Home Office in Green Bay and will take a few more vacation days with that trip to visit relatives up in Wisconsin. Today was absolutely beautiful here in AZ.... sunny and mid/high 70's.
Take care,
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
You're right John.
Any leaf fans feeling a little " deja vu " creeping up
Maggie
The January "swoon" will not happen this year...WILL NOT!
This year is different....aah...yea!...different
Paul
Who are you trying to fool.
Of course it's going to happen. It already started
John
Oops! Wrong state, never the less, they are both frigid! My husband will be in Mesa
on Thursday, lucky him. The high temp here will be 13, the low 1.
Good luck on your interview!
Take care,
Cara
Maggie
How did or are the SENS doing tonight in NJ???
John
I do believe it was a " SHUT OUT "
4 to 0
They have only lost one of their last 14 games
Maggie
SENS are gonna win tonight
Well, a tie is good too
Paul - where are you ????????
Sens won tonight
leafs lost tonight - oops
I think we are only 1 point behind now ?
Maggie
Paul
Remeber this post reply from the other day??
The January "swoon" will not happen this year...WILL NOT!
This year is different....aah...yea!...different
Paul I think you may have been mistaken.
GO-SENS-GOJohn
RATS!
Those darn Flyers....glad we got that out of our system....
Paul
who are these " SENS " .....?
the washington senators moved to milwaukee, and then reincarnated and moved to texas years ago...
i know this can't be related to that north mexico country, they've got a queen not a congress.
all this trash talkin'.
aloha ben
i refer to that space above minnesota as ' north mexico ' habitually...funny money, cheap labour, foreign
language...
We'll just see if it is "out of your system "
Maggie
Paul
Don't know what it is but the Flyers would definitely like to add a couple more games with you... Now if Hitch can just get em to play like that the rest of the time...hmmmmmmm
Mike
No kidding Mike...it seems the Flyers love to play the Leafs...bang the heck out of us too.! I love beating them almost as much as beating Ottawa
What are you talking about ? The leafs DON'T beat Ottawa
Maggie
Only in the playoffs!!!....where it counts
Hey Paul, I think it's working! Lull them into a false sense of security, and then, WHAMO! Kick butt in the play offs. Man, Quinn has got to be a genius to have come up with this one, eh? And with all that talent sidelined with "fake" injuries, boy, just think what we'll accomplish when we have a full roster again!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LEAFS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!Doug
Oh Bull Puckey
You guys are not going to win .no no no
OMG Doug
Your baby isn't a baby anymore !!!!!!
She is beautiful. Just a few toys in the background huh ?
How was the first Christmas ? Did santa bring her a Sens shirt ?
Maggie
Bull Puckey??
Didn't the Sens have a mascot by that name??
LOL.... too funny Paul.
It is not everyday you get on-line and see the words "Bull Puckey" being thrown around.
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Tim,
Maggie sure can let them fly when she get's all riled up about the Sens....one reason I won't mention they got clobbered tonight.
Paul
Our mascot is "Sparticat" - he is sooo funny - love him
Do the leafs even have a macot. I doubt it - no sense of humour in that hockey team
Maggie
Hey Maggie,
Kendra's first x-mas was a blast, and between her grandmother and 2 doting aunt's, she got spoiled BIG time. They actually collaborated so as not to duplicate her gifts! Sheesh......... But Kendra is doing spectacular, she is 3 days shy of 8 months old and has six teeth already! Life is grand right now, and the only way it can get any better, is when the Leafs win the Cup!!!
Go Leafs Go!!!
Doug
Well then Doug - you'll just have to settle for life the way it is now 'cause the leafs are not gonna win the cup
I'm sure that you will be happy that the cup will be in Ontario though
Maggie
Doug
Good to see you around here again sorry to hear you took a spill. Just remember you can always come up to OTTAWA to see the CUP here since that is where it is going to be for the next year or more. I know by now all you Leaf fans should be used to NOT getting the CUP but aleast they still allow Leaf fans in to see it.
John
Doug,
She sure is a beauty!
With our luck collectively, the next cup in Ontario will likely go to an expansion Hamilton franchise!
Doug
Hey John,
the spill was nothing, at least this time!
We do get to "see" the cup more than anywhere else, since it does reside in the centre of the hockey universe here at the hockey hall of fame!
And hey, just when is the last time the cup was in Ottawa? Huh?????
Doug
Thanks Paul!
She is already learning to clap when the Leafs are in action, probably has something to do with her daddies demeanour during a game........
Doug
Hey Doug!
Just watch what you say while watching the games. You would be surprised how quickly our little ones pick our choice words.
Take care,
Cara
GO WINGS! (just had to add that)
Cara,
Got some good and bad news for you....
The NHL in conjunction with the US Postal Service issued some new postage stamps in the US. The first stamp issued was for the Detroit Red Wings with the picture or a Red Wing skating across the ice.
But I have some bad news, the stamps are being recalled....
Everyone wants to spit on the Red Wing Player rather than the back rendering the stamps useless.
I could not help myself Cara
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Tim...Tim...Tim....cute, very cute. I will deal with you later.
ooh......good one....sure it wasn't an Ottawa stamp??....
Tell me about it....... I've gotten a headache already because of some words.... pain comes from out of no where... feels like a hand at times..... funny it only happens when Donna is in the room..... can't figure it out.....
GO LEAFS GODoug
Great one Tim!!!!
It didn't happen to be Cujo now, did it????
Doug
Ahem.............. tied for first overall, thank you very much..... :)
GO LEAFS GODoug
Considering all of the injuries...this is quite a feat!
Oh here comes the cup......here comes the cup.....
gotta get my seat for the parade!
Doug
Doug
In reply to: gotta get my seat for the parade!
Are you coming to Ottawa to watch the parade???? Paul you can come too. Right Maggie??
John
well I know the silly leafs won their game tonight
but HEEEEYYYYY - the Sens won their game
9 to 1How about that then
Maggie
Awesome......who's in first again??
Cara,
The Big Bad Red Wings came to town last night, awaiting them were the humble Coyotes and a hot goal tender.
Coyotes 5 (only 14 shots on goal)
Red Wings 2 (46 shots on goal)
Dare I say it.... Spank, Spank, Spank, Spank
Doug.... I see why the Red Wing fans may be spitting on the stamp if it is CuJo. Actually I like CuJo since he played college pucks at Wisconsin (ditto Chelios). I have my loyalties to the Wisconsin Badgers despite the fact they play for the Red Wings.
Could have used a few of the Badger chants for CuJo last night....
Scene.... arena full of Badger fans mostly clad in red, a college band playing, a thousand whipped up college students and 4-5 thousand more adults.... a question is posed from the student section about the opposing goalie after giving up his 4th goal....
Is the Goalie a vacuum?
An answer from the entire crowd....
No, he is not a vacuum!
A second question is posed from the student section....
Is he a black hole?
An answer from the entire crowd....
No, he is not a black hole!
Chorus from all....
He just Sucks, He just Sucks, He just Sucks!!!
Ahhhh... college pucks, I miss it.
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Haha John........... they'll be parading up Yonge street!
Doug
Hey Maggie......
great way to welcome Jagr to the Madison millionaires club!
Superstars? Super slumps seeing stars! Oh to be a Ranger fan, I feel for ya!
Doug
Geeee, Paul, could it be?????
Doug
I dunno Tim............ I think Cujo is a victim of circumstance, old age defense in front of him, I think he's a goner........... he should've stayed in the minors.
Doug
Well..well...well...what can I say Tim?
Dag nab it! Can't win 'em all. Did the Coyotes have 3 power plays goals? Until February's game my friend.
I still owe you.
Take care,
Cara
This thread is now the second most replied to on the 'new' forums, and the third most replied to ever, including the old forums.
Interestingly, the most replied to on both the old
and new forums has the same subject - "How did you choose your username?" - the popularity of which is obvious in that every member has something to contribute.
Just sayin'
  Â
Loz
I forgot one particularly controversial post in the Starch forums (162 replies) and of course if there's anything in the Women's forum which I don't have access to.
  Â
Loz
Oh Loz, you are so wrong. The popularity of this thread is not due to the name of the original poster but to the content.
The OTTAWA SENATORS of course - very popular and succesful hockey club
although, of course, we do all love Paul too Maggie
Edited by Maggie on 01/28/04 12:16 PM (server time).
Ummm, I think you mixed up your teams there Maggie! This is the Leafs thread!
Hey Loz, just how many more posts do we need to get to the top??
Doug
Maggie
What are Leafs??? Aren't they those things that fall off trees in the Fall.
John
The Leafs...my good man
Are going to be this years STANLEY CUP CHAMPS!
If we win...I'll throw a Haggis party to Make Maggie feel at home
Thanks Loz......
I knew we had a lot of posts here....boy ...get a few hockey fans online and all heck breaks loose
Hey Doug,
After this reply, another 30 will make it the most replied to ever (current record 186 replies) but I'm not sure if my replies should count?
  Â
Loz
Ohh! It's hockey is it? I
was wondering what all the fuss was about.....
  Â
Loz
The Laughs and Sens play hockey?
Habs Rule!!!!!
I notice the leaf fans have gone a little quiet.
Oh, by the way, anybody notice the standings today ?????????
Maggie
Thanks for pointing that out Maggie.
John
Wait until after tonights game...........
umm, reply 162??
Doug
Why not Loz...
reply 163...
Doug
Are all you leaf fans ready for tonight ??
Sens fans are eagerly anticipating a WIN
Maggie
GO LEAFS GO!!!!reply 165.......
Doug
We're going to kick some Ottawa butt this evening....can hardly wait until it's over to start GLOATING!
Paul
Gloat! Gloat! Gloat!
Doug
Sens look tough... took care of Coyotes down here pretty easily.
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Tied 1-1 after 1....at least we're winning the fights!
hahahaha
Paul
Thanks for the support Tim.
I guess nobody told you though - you know, how the leafs buy their own refs !!!!!!!
That way they can have a WWF match instead of playing hockey.
Shame on the leafs
Maggie
What do you mean " what can I say - we won "
Like I said to Tim - you didn't win by playing hockey.
Looking forward to Thursday - wish I had tickets.
Maggie
Awwwww, Maggie, what's the matter? Seems as if the refs were on your side last night, we had 12 penalties! And poooor Ottawa could only score when we had 2 men in the box!
Oh, and about the rough and tumble game, if Van Allen is going to wear that ridiculous mask, he should learn to keep his stick to himself! Same goes for Bozo Alfie, what a hair doo!
Go Leafs Go!Doug
Oh ya, first in the east, tied second overall!
Doug
Wow....back to that again.....wew were a man short all night...sometimes two....yet we still kicked your butt! hmmmmm....Thursday....a good day for an Ottawa loss...
Paul
I wholeheartedly agree Paul........
Doug
Oh now you and Doug are just getting ignorant
We have a better team and you know it
Hey!!! How bout those Pats???
non-sports buff just popping into to say
Okie Dokie, see ya!
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
Hey Kathy Hi
John
OK Kathy
Repeat after me " Go Sens "
You'd love them Kathy - they play real hockey, not WWF.and the're gonna win the Stanley cup this year
Hey everyone - we have another Sens fan on the board
Maggie
Kathy,
I have already picked this bone with Lori.... Pats??? Come on, how manly of a name is that for a football team? It brings on a visual of Pat in the Saturday Night Live skits and you did not know if the individual was a guy or gal
How about Riots instead? At least that sounds fearsome
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Hey Tim
15 wins in a row.....call them what you want, but we got 2 superbowls in 3 years!
No no Kathy... it's pronounced... GO LEAFS!
Doug
Ummm, just who was playing WWF???? hmmm?? some big fella with the name Chara perhaps? The guy was tossing McCabe around like he was a rag doll for goodness sakes! sheesh....
Doug
I think we just tied for most posts in a thread!
er, make that the most now, 187! yay!
Doug
In reply to:
Pats??? Come on, how manly of a name is that for a football team?
You know Tim, your right! I'm kinda partial to the Bullhead City Rustlers. Now there's a team you don't want to mess with! Snort!
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
Hey John!
Not to worry, I'm just passing through.
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
Kathy
As long as you are saying GO SENS you can stay here with us. right Maggie??
John
Absolutely.!!!!!!!!
Better send that girl a Sens shirt or something
Kathy - tune in and watch the NHL game on Thursday - you'll see the Sens beat the leafs
Maggie
I Know
but he was provoked for heavens sake.
I imagine Mc Cabe is gonna think twice next time. !!!!!!!!!
You're right though - he is crazy strong.!!!!!!!!!
Maggie
Hey Tim,
Aren't the 'RIOTS' an english football team ( not like american football, real football, which we call soccer on
this side of the pond)...?
I did go to a hockey game once- twenty years ago, when the Hartford Whalers played buffalo.
I don't understand the big fuss, strange game.
go crazies, alohaben
Ignorant???....Well Maggie, I'll have you know us Leaf fans are true sportsman...fair play and all that. It hurts me to see a Toronto player roughhouse one of those Ottawa lovelies. I'll see if I can get a message to Mr Binns ( Stanley Cup coach 2003-2004)and ask him to please.... stop the manhandling of your Sens.
Edited by douce on 02/03/04 09:48 AM (server time).
Spoken like a true leaf fan
OK... this is the 200th post on this thread, unless someone sneaks in.
This thread started on 11/23/03 when Paul threw down the gaunlet... Maggie answered it on 11/24/03 and so began history.
There have been 14 participants in this thread and fans of the Sens, Leafs, Flyers, Kings, Red Wings and Coyotes... and even had some Pats fans crash the party (note... whenever there is a party, you can expect someone from the Live Free or Die state to show up).
Top posters:
Maggie 64
Paul 52
(both would have Active Member status alone with this thread)
Doug 28
John 13
Of particular interest is the fact that the Leaf fans as of now have a 3 post advantage in this thread... the Leafs also have a 3 point lead vs Sens in the standings. Is that ironic or what???
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Paul
I'm with Maggie on this one.
John
Tim
You missed it by one post. Now there should be 201 posts.
John
Hi Kathy,
Sens is short for Senators.
Take care,
Cara
Hi Kathy,
I am old enough... if 35 is old enough
As for Maggie.... she can hold her own, I recall the term "Bull Pukey" being tossed around very freely
Well... I am sure the Leaf fans have their own meaning behind Sens. It is short for Senators... they are the Senators since Ottawa is the Capital.
Hope this helps you out Miss Wildcat
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Tim,
Were you a math major??
Thanks for the facts.....and it's funny how you don't forget a term like Bull Pukey (still trying to figure out if I was insulted with that one)
I can hardly wait until Thursday to really give Maggie and John the business!
Paul
Hi Cara!
and thanks!
Nice to see another woman in here
. I know, I know, I don't really belong here
but ya never know, could rub off a bit
and as long as I don't have to go to any sports bars!
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
Worse.... Accounting Major
My mother used the term Bull Pukey now and then.... my dad was usually in trouble at the time
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
In reply to:
as long as I don't have to go to any sports bars!
Hey a bar's a bar, right?
Lets not be quibbling over what kind of bar. I guess the winners are buying, so as I support neither team and therefore cannot win, I'm just tagging along, licking my lips in the hope of a generous winner....
   Loz
Hi Kathy,
I had to reread your post. I thought you said no sports bras. I thought, huh?
What do you mean no sports bars? Party pooper!
Being a sports fan can rub off on one.You need to watch a few hockey games. They are fun to watch! In the Detroit area we all take hockey seriously, after all Detroit is Hockeytown.
Stick around, especially when it is time for the playoffs.
Cara
Sports bras Cara?
Stick around huh? Nice pun!
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
From the sounds of it, Wildcat sounds pretty tame for you also
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Yes, playoff hockey is awesome.... too many teams make playoffs that regular season seems watered down version to me.
I always wanted to know how a city of several million people becomes referred to as a town?
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Don't you believe anything Lori tells you Tim, I can be sweet too!
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
Hmm, winners buy???
But what about all those TV's!!!
It's scary I tell ya!
I'll have to think on it.
Winners buy eh???
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
In reply to:
Hey a bar's a bar, right?
Right on Loz..... as long as the suds flow, the game is on the big screen and the women... er never mind..........
Um, Go Leafs Go!
Hey Paul, what happen' tonight? Ex Leafs beat us! We'll have to take it out on some whoopin of Sen butt thursday!
Doug
By the way Loz, do we hold the record now?
Figures that some sports trash talking makes history, eh?
Like they say.........
It's the coolest game on earth!
Doug
Doug,
It drives me crazy... ..year after year the weaker teams seem to beat them...very frustrating. Ooh...Ottawa.....bring em on.....
Wow - I can't believe all the activity in this thread, while I wasn't looking.
This is so great. It's gonna make me feel all the more VICTORIOUS when the Sens are parading with the cup
Maggie
Should be a good game with Ottawa losing too.... both teams will be hungry for the win.
Yep,
223 (I mean 224
) is certainly,
easily, the winning thread.
Yes, it figures that it'd be an off-topic thread that got the most hits ... 'cos people tend to disagree less when the subject is AS itself .... well, except where starch theory is concerned that is!
This is really why I made a sports forum, so this stuff can go on without annoying those who come looking for help on AS. Just a place to hang and have fun.
  Â
Loz
Hey Maggie,
considering your hearty cheering and all, if the SENSationals win the cup...do you get to take it home for a night ?
that's the tradition, right ? Put it up next to the silver service and have friends over to gawk.
bet that would set your heart a pumping...you trashtalking hockey fans are nuts.
alohaben
That's a good idea Ben but I'm lacking in the silver service area to put it with
I actually never was a hockey fan until the Sens returned to Ottawa. It has been very exciting to support them.
On line is even more fun 'cause then I don't have to actually go face to face with any whining leaf fans
( that's wHining - NOT winning )
Maggie
Hey Kathy - that's just about the way the leafs play !!!!!!!!!
Their strategy is not to play good hockey but to disable as many of the Sens' best players as possible.
Whadya say Paul and Doug ?
Maggie
oh MAGGIE!
Next thing you know she'll be throwing the Bull Pukey name around again!!
Pull Bucky???
This is great, a place to hang and ramble on about the most important thing in life, the Leafs next victory!
Looks like Maggie wished a broken nose on McCabe! How typical of a Sen! Break the other players so they can win!
You notice Paul, Maggie & John..... that in the whole wide world, hockey rules supreme??? How else do you explain such a long super thread? GO CANADA!
Ok, ok, so a few of them south of the 49th can skate too!
Doug
I'm voting for Doug for Canada's next Prime Minister...go Doug!
Any guy with the same name as one of our best captains ever know's what he's talking about! Are you paying attention Maggie??
Paul - you got the wrong " D " word - it's " Daniel "
Are there any Montreal fan's here, other than me? If not, I'm going to lose a lot of respect for this site!!
Eric,
Montreal has a hockey team??
The best team ever!! We even had that Douggy guy, though he didn't seem like much of a player!!
.
I miss hockey!!
Paul
You are mean but honest.
John
Well Mr. Montreal Fan - you are only allowed in if your second choice is Ottawa
I don't believe we have heard from any other Montreal fans - maybe you'll stir some up.
Anything but more leafs please
Maggie
Oh Wonderful,
Now you've got Lori picking on the Leafs.
Well....we can take it....we're used to people from all different cities envying our LEAFS.
We Leaf fans have a name for you all....LEAF FAN WANNABEES!
From the centre of the hockey universe..........TORONTO!
ps: we're going to kick some Ottawa heiny tonight!
GO LEAFS GO!
Hey Lori
That's exactly what Jon ( cheerful ) say
The leafs are gonna fall allright - tonight
Maggie
Well Miss Maggie.....Good luck!
Holy Mackinaw! Kidd wins a game! Sundin comes through!
The Leafs are piled on top of those sickly Sens!
What'd they eat anyways? Never mind, I don't wanna know!!!
Doug
Actually Doug, that is exactly what I was thinking. The way they were all falling sick, seemed to me to be more like food poisoning than the flu.
We couldn't get the game on TV, had to listen on the radio. Felt like the " Olden Days "
Maggie
I don't mind Ottawa. The Laughs, I can't stand them.
They fall from a tree, on their faces, in the standings or out of the playoffs. Take your pick.
Hey Doug,
Almost felt sorry for them every time the camera showed their bench. Heads down...running to the bathroom... ( what were they left with?? two lines??).I'll take the win though.
I sure hope they meet up in the playoffs....these teams really turn it up against each other!
Paul
Congratulations to the Leafs!!!
So what was the final score? And more importantly, wheres the party and who's paying?
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
Kathy !!!!!!!!!! Whar are you saying !!!!
You cannot support the leafs - they are the bad guys.
Sens are the good guys
Maggie
Hey Eric !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No laughs - good boy.
Hey, what can I say Maggie?
I had no favorite, I'm neutral I tell ya!
So, where's the party?
"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."
Oh Maggie,
Did you happen to catch the All Star game....did you see the line Pat Quinn put together??
I thought it was a great idea....show's what true professionals they are when they want to kill each other one day...high fiving each other the next!
Hi Paul
Sorry, I didn't see it. I only know that Hossa was out due to illness ( right ? )
Maggie
Yep,
He had to pass due to the eye injury....9 stiches (i think)
Speaking of eye injuries and visors etc..
I guess Don Cherry has got himself in a little trouble !!!!!!
There is now going to be 7 second delay on CBC's Coaches' Corner
Sorry to jump in like this, but as a Leaf fan and having in-laws living in the Ottawa area, I couldn't resist. My sis-in-law gets her three girls to call me after the Sens beat the Leafs, and instead of saying hi, all I hear is the whole family laughing. Then the father-in-law and mother-in-law call to make sure I know the Sens won. So I'll say here what I say to them: "Come talk to me in April after we put the Sens out again."
As for Cherry, I am really ticked off about this. He has been saying for years that Europeans are the only players who wear visors. He's been on Ulf Samuelson, Yashin, Hossa, Alfredsson.... saying they don't care about NHL hockey or the Stanley Cup and they disappear in the playoffs. That they grow up dreaming about winning the World Cup. That Europeans are not tough enough to play in the NHL palyoffs, and on and on. No one said anything then. But bring the French Canadian into it and suddenly they are talking about it on Parliment Hill. The Language Police are all in an uprage. Give me a break. Cherry has always spoken from the hip. He has always been pro Canadian, and the CBC knew what they were going to get every Saturday night. The topics are pre-planned and the CBC could easily have prevented this by going over the discussion BEFORE the show. The CBC doesn't have the guts to fire Don and are hoping he will quit because the backlash would be huge. (Remember Ron's contract talk?) Cherry is Cherry. If the CBC didn't want everyone to know that it is run by those at Parliment Hill, then it is now too late.
That aside, Alfredsson is a free agent after this season, and as much as I might hate saying this, maybe Quinn was seeing how Alfredsson would look with Sundin and Roberts. (YAK!) Just an idea.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Angus,
Always room for another LEAF fan!
Paul
Leaf fans are every where. It's like they are falling out of trees or someting.
OMG - Our Alfredson going to the " Other Side " !!!!!
That would be the last straw. Many Sens fans would go into a deep depression, me included.
What on earth would the leaf fans do - they all boo him all the time now.
I love Alfredson - he is a cheeky so and so.
I agree, the Don Cherry thing is nuts. (Not that I'm that keen on him myself - it is obvious that he isn't a Sens fan)
That's cute - what your family do after a Sens win
Maggie
Edited by Maggie on 02/09/04 11:42 PM (server time).
Get used to it Eric. They are everywhere - dosn't mean they're right though
Well, hopefully, you can't have him.
Paul
I was just Thinking and if you Leaf Fans want to get the Cup. Then you all better get in line at the Double Arches and see Ronny to get yours because the real Cup is coming to OTTAWA.
John
The Sens couldn't carry the Leaf players cups!
The cup will be here John.....in Ontario
How's that for sitting on the fence
What do we do after a Sens win? We don't answer the phone! That's why they leave a message.
As for myself, I go into a deep spiraling depression. As I hit bottom I just remind myself that the Leafs put them out four straight in the playoffs.
i think it has turned into a great rivalry. I look forward to a Leaf/Sens match up even if the Sens do usually come out on top during the regular season. (Except for that five goal come back by the Leafs the other night. I love what Nolan said after, "Boo hoo!) I'm sure it was as good as a cup win for the Sens when they beat us with half our regular line up gone to injuries. Alas, poor Sens fans, all is not lost, the Sens still might finish first overall. They have been playing some pretty good hockey lately. Too bad Hasek and Joseph went down with an injury, rumour has it Joseph was a sneeze away from becoming a Sen.
As good as Lalime is, I don't think he can take the Sens to the promised land.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Sens won - leafs lost Again !!!!!!!!!!!!
Sens got lucky (not that I could actually watch the game), anytime someone beats the habs it is pure luck. The only consolation is that I have Havlat in my pool.
Hey... the Food Channel had a Stanley cup made of chocolate last night....that would be a project, big mold.
is your ' stanley ' the dr. livingston guy , his grandson, or someone else ?
alohaben
Hey Ben - great idea !!!!!!!!!!!!
A chocolate Stanley Cup.
Now the leaf fans among us will be saying really smarty pants things like " that's the only cup we are going to get " but they are so wrong - we will have both !!!!!!
I believe that Lord Stanley was the Governer General of Canada when he donated the Stanley Cup for hockey. The cup was first awarded in 1893
Maggie
Hi Eric
There is no such thing as luck for the Sens.
SKILL Maggie
The Stanley Cup
It all started on March 18, 1892, at a dinner of the Ottawa Amateur Athletic Association. Lord Kilcoursie, a player on the Ottawa Rebels hockey club from Government House, delivered the following message on behalf of Lord Stanley, the Earl of Preston and Governor General of Canada:
"I have for some time been thinking that it would be a good thing if there were a challenge cup which should be held from year to year by the champion hockey team in the Dominion (of Canada).
"There does not appear to be any such outward sign of a championship at present, and considering the general interest which matches now elicit, and the importance of having the game played fairly and under rules generally recognized, I am willing to give a cup which shall be held from year to year by the winning team."
The Stanley Cup was originally known as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup
Shortly thereafter, Lord Stanley purchased a silver cup measuring 7 ½ inches high by 11 ½ inches across for the sum of 10 guineas (approximately $50); appointed two Ottawa gentlemen, Sheriff John Sweetland and Philip D. Ross, as trustees of that cup; and set the following preliminary conditions to govern the annual competition:
• The winners to return the Cup in good order when required by the trustees in order that it may be handed over to any other team which may win it.
• Each winning team to have the club name and year engraved on a silver ring fitted on the Cup.
• The Cup to remain a challenge competition and not the property of any one team, even if won more than once.
• The trustees to maintain absolute authority in all situations or disputes over the winner of the Cup.
• A substitute trustee to be named in the event that one of the existing trustees drops out.
The first winner of the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) hockey club, champions of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada for 1893. Ironically, Lord Stanley never witnessed a championship game nor attended a presentation of his trophy, having returned to his native England in the midst of the 1893 season. Nevertheless, the quest for his trophy has become one of the world's most prestigious sporting competitions.
The Stanley Cup was originally known as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup.
I thought I might share that information with the Sens fans because even though we haven't won it since 1967,
(gasp), Ottawa hasnt' won it since 1927!! Now don't go into the whole thing about there not being a team there, we can all come up with excuses. Remember Ballard? We're still trying to recover from him and Cliff Fletcher. Ballard would get rid of anyone who was either bit decent because they would want a raise in pay, and Fletcher gave up the farm for aging veterans hoping to take it all. Oh well, we are having a pretty decent year and I'm going to enjoy it in case there isn't any NHL hockey for a while after this season.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Montreal was the first and is always the best!!!!!!!!!!!!
As it was, I believe Montreal never really played a series to win it the first year the cup was given out. The team they were supposed to play couldn't make it and the cup was just handed to Montreal. I'll ask you what I ask all the other Habs fans, has the Stanley Cup not been won by another team since '93? It doesn't matter how long it's been since it was last won by either team, the question is who has the best chance of winning it this year? I'll give you a clue, it's not Montreal.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
You are so right [!
It isn't Montreal, it isn't Toronto - Guess who it is ?
Pittsburgh? Um, Chicago? It can't be Ottawa because they'll have to beat Colorado or Vancouver IF, and that is a huge if, they make it to the finals. There are a lot of teams out there who are one or two players away from being serious contenders, and that's what worries me. If teams stayed the way they are now I'd say Toronto and Ottawa have a legit chance, but a trade or two could knock us both out or make us the teams to beat. We'll know after the trade deadline passes. I'm alway so nervous this time of year.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Theodore could take us to the grail!!!
We might not be the best now, but we've got a very bright future!
I agree. I think the best thing Montreal has done is hire Gainey. If anyone can get Montreal over the top it's him. You have a lot of great young players, something we here in Leafland wish we had, and when Theodore finds his confidence again he'll be the great goalie he should be. Montreal is really coming on and if they make the playoffs could be a surprise. I hope they do make the playoffs, the more Canadian teams we can get in there the better chance we have of bringing the cup home. Right here in Canada.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
You mean right here in TORONTO!
Can't see anything in that statement to argue with.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
I can
Hey Maggie,
Looks like the Sens made a good grab with Bondra....wish we would have landed him.
Yeah - looks exciting - woohoo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How does he address the grit question which always plagues Ottawa?
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
What do you mean ? You mean we don't have any grit ?
We have what I thought hockey players were supposed to have - TALENT.
Heck, we could seek Chara on to you guys at any time but we prefer to play hockey.
OK ?
Maggie
Maggie,
Talent wins during the regular season...talent and grit wins cups....you got some grit getting Rob Ray ( I hate that guy)
You hate Alfredson and he is awesome.
I think you leaf fans are confused about the meaning of "grit". Cheating isn't the same as " grit "
See ya in the playoffs
Maggie
Playoffs???
We own you guys in the playoffs!
...and bye the way....Alfredson???....is he a coach or something???
...and "cheating"????...ooh Maggie.....the only cheating going on is the Sens cheating their fans every year in the playoffs!
....I have a feeling John might have something to say soon. ( i know deep down inside...he's a Leaf fan}
Well mister Paul - you ain't gonna own us this year
No siree !!!!!!!!!
Furthermore - we are not going to get cheated this year either.
Keep gong Paul - you're getting me all riled up - we are going to win dammit -
OMG please let us win this year Maggie
Paul Buddy
You Leaf Fans are going down and me being a Leaf Fan you got to be Kidding
John
Let's see, if the playoffs were to start today Ottawa would be in 4th place, meaning a match up with Boston, Toronto would be first playing the Islanders. So far Ottawa is 3-1-1 VS Boston, and the Leafs are 1-2-0 VS the Islanders.(yeah, I have too much time on my hands) Boston is playing much better and I think goaltending would be the difference in that series. What does that mean? Toronto won't get the chance to meet Ottawa and beat them four straight again after we put the Islanders out of their misery.
I realize there are lots of people who are Leaf fan haters, but I look at it this way, the laws of average are on our side. It's been 37 years since we last won the cup, it has to happen again, sooner rather than later.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
AHEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I notice that it has gone very quiet in here.
Perhaps you are all looking at the standings ?
Oh - look -!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you see what I see ?
Ottawa is in 1st - that would be above the big TO
I guess you are all speechless huh ?
Maggie
Does anyone here get ESPN the magazine? Someone is putting together a free for all for Ex Goons of the NHL this fall... thus far have 19 ex players I believe signed up for the event.
I guess last one standing wins the money prize.
Anyone else hear this?
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Maggie
Did you see the Leafs Game tonight?? They Lost 2-1 oh well so sad.
NOT John
YEP - I know
Maggie
We play you two more times before the season ends. Should all else remain equal, that'll put us three points up. (we'll win those games
) Of course when we get Belfour back we all know which team will win more games, T.O.
I'm lovin' it. This is the first time in years when games this far into the season could have a treamendous impact on the standings. There are only five points between first and sixth. Either of those teams go for a bit of a tumble and they could finish sixth or eighth, maybe out all together. This is what it's all about.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
What are you talking about - the leafs arn't going to beat the Sens and you know it
That's right, the Habs will!!!!
I'm going to feel so bad when the Leafs (2004 Stanley Cup champs} boot those Sens out of the playoff picture yet AGAIN!
Don't worry about it - it ain't gonna happen
Paul
In reply to:
I'm going to feel so bad when the Leafs (2004 Stanley Cup champs} boot those Sens out of the playoff picture yet AGAINDepends are what you will be waring when the Sens Knock the Leafs out of the playoff is what you meant to say right Paul??
John
One word, "goaltending". If it comes down to Belfour and Lalime, Belfour wins. But alas, regular season means nothing if you cant' win in the playoffs.
The Sens may finish on top but they always fall down. Montreal still has to make it to the playoffs.
With the standings so close anyone is a slump away from finishing out of the playoffs, or a streak away from finishing first.
There's only five weeks left so hang on.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
I'm hangin on - but I think you need to hang on tighter
John,
Are you saying I will be wearing depends???....
Oh - Too Funny Paul
Maggie,
When this post was started (Nov 23)....your Sens were playing lousy...and sinking fast!
What a turnaround...do they ever lose anymore??
Paul
Paul
You are killing me.
Why is that what all the leaf fans do at the playoffs??
John
Hi Paul
I know !!!!!!!!!! they are awesome !!!!!!!!! Still in first place !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still wonder if losing Roger had a bigger effect than folks realise.
By the way - in case you missed it - leafs lost last night.
Sorry - just when you were being so nice, I still had to get a dig in.
Maggie
regarding -
" When this post was started (Nov 23)....your Sens were playing lousy...and sinking fast!
What a turnaround...do they ever lose anymore?? "
Bet you're sorry you even started this thread huh ?
Maggie thanks for letting me know the Leafs Lost I missed the game.
John
Now...now....you don't want to get a Leaf fan riled up John....we all know how they(US!) can be!
Yes we do know how leaf fans can be, They are perfect for the team they support.
Actually, I don't imagine the players are all that bad - it's their coach. Pat Quinn is YUCKY !!!!!!!!!!!!
Maggie
OMG...such disrespect ....for us Leaf loyalists! (hmm...made that up...think I'll print t shirts) Maggie.....I've stuck with my Leafs through all the bad years ( most of them)
Through the harold Ballard years....sheesh.....and now the last few years..they have been playing with some heart and fire...so ....we're ( us leaf loyalists) are due our party.....and it's coming...THIS YEAR.....I'm going to buy John a Leaf Jersey
Paul
I don't think John will like that .......
I'd like to go to a Sens game with John some day - I bet he'd be a hoot
Maggie
Maybe if we all pitch in we could get John and Maggie tickets to the Leafs Stanley Cup game! On second thought, if we were able to get tickets I'd go. At any rate, while their team is playing golf, the Leafs will be playing HOCKEY!!!
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
NOT gonna happen that way this year my friend
I hopeMaggie
Maggie
So what did you think of last nights game??
John
I didn't see it - we don't have cable.
We are in second place "2 " points ahead of the leafs WOOHOO !!!!!!!!!
Badda Boom!!!
YIPPPIE YEEHAW! Dang tootin', we'll close the hill and put them Sens to pasture again!
GO LEAFS GO!Doug
Hmmm.......... Leafs win a couple, the Sens lose a couple and the room goes eerily silent.....
YO Sens fans, ya gonna set a record for the most games played with the fewest players on the bench by the end of the game? Who knew Lalime gets upset when the other goalie out performs him?!? One of his "off" nights I guess....
Hey Paul...... whadda ya think of that fella named Brian....... ya that Leetch fella! Looks good in dark blue!
So Maggie, ya gonna blame the Broad Street Bullies????
Doug
HABS have won a few!!!!
Watch your backs!!
Oh Man Doug.....drooling here at the thought of how far he can take us....a great pickup!!!
Paul
Hmmmmmmmm.
I do believe that tonight - the Sens won and the leafs lost
Maggie
Maggie,
Your boys took off the gloves quite a bit in the Philly game.... is there a lot of bad blood with the Flyers from the past?
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Hi Doug/Paul,
Leetch is quality player... may give the Leafs the edge to hold on in the division. Now if you only toss Domi... I can not stand the guy and I see he has been up to his old tricks lately.
I imagine he is fan favorite up in Toronto.
Tim
p.s. - Heard it was in the 60's up in Toronto. Volunteer at Performing Arts Center down here and the Nylons were here performing. Some of performers are from your fair city and they brough up that fact of the record high during the performance.
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Hi Tim
Yep all the leaf fans love Domi - BIG TIME.
Unfortunatly I think that is what all the fighting the Sens are now doing, is all about. It seems that they have decided they need to play rougher just like Philly and Toronto.
We'll see how it goes, I guess.
We stand a good chance anyway - Stanley just might be ours
We're all going to be glued to our TV's for the playoffs.
Maggie
hmmm
Couldn't win the fights or the game the other nite...
Do think with the playoffs coming it is time to start a new thread...
Mike
Tim,
That weather lasted for a day ( hope that wasn't our spring) back to seasonal temps and flurries here for the last few days YUCK!
Oh sure - a new thread to follow the Sens all the way to the top
Eric,
I was checking out the standings in paper today in the breakroom at work, you are correct, I did not realize the Habs were that close in the division. I think you are correct with the comment about "Watching Backs".
More importantly... Wisconsin Badgers are looking strong in the college ranks again.
DROP THE PUCK!
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
The habs have been playing really well lately (from what I've read) and when Kovalev gets back I think nothing will stop us. I think the habs have a real chance in the playoffs this year, we have the goaltending, the defence and the scoring. The only thing we are lacking is size, but if the team is winning who cares how big you are!!!!
Go Habs!!!!!
Tie Domi is a favourite, and not just because of his fighting ability, he's about the only Leaf who will stand in front of the opposition's net! I don't think the Leafs would have suffered much if he was moved, Belak and Perrot could have taken over the "enforcer" roll. I agree, Leetch looks VERY nice in a Leafs jersey, so does Francis!
He's not afraid to stand in front of the net. Maybe some of the younger players will pick up on this and realise there is a small price to pay to be successful. Nice pick up for the Sens too in getting DeVries, would have liked to see him in T.O. too, along with Gerber. We Leaf fans realise all our hopes fall squarely on a wonky back, read Belfour. The Habs are playing pretty good hockey right now, but as the intensity rises in the playoffs their fans will realise size does count. Can't wait to play the Sens on March 27. There'll be a lot of tears flowing after that game. All the Sens fans will be calling the radio shows complaining that they are not tough enough. Oh well, at least the cup will end up in Ontario, just down the road from the Nation's Capitol.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Habs 4 Laughs 3
Habs Rule, Laughs Suck!!!
Only 3 points back now!!!
A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss, Hopefully!
Way to go Eric !!!!!!!!!!!! Thankyou Montreal !!!!!!!!!!
Oh, by the way leaf fans-
Sens WON - leafs LOST - AGAIN
Maggie dear,
now that hockey has at least entered my sphere...one question-
the ottowa sensationals seem to be losing to folks with losing records, is that anyway
to prepare for and/or make the playoffs ?
ducking for cover...
alohaben
The LEAFS were in a barn burner last night, came out on top. Montreal is playing well, shame they won't go far AGAIN, The Sens...well.....going to be one of the first teams out playing golf AGAIN. So much to look forward to here ( in the hockey universe.] TORONTO!!
Paul
Well who's side are you on anyway ???????????????????/
For heaven's sake stop giving those lunatic leaf fans anything to grin about.
Maggie
Maggie,
your thread here has brought me to checking the standings in the paper every day.
I am not cheering for anyone, barely aware of hockey since the whaler's left hartford...just thought
that your sensationals ought to have some 'put 'em away' instinct. I am sure the leaf-people will
cheer regardless of my input.
btw, how do they play hockey in tampa or is it orlando? or san jose ???
all the best
alohaben
Lori,
If we had to be beaten...at least it was Greene that did us in. I like him as a player.
However that will change quickly if he ever got himself traded to "Ottawa"
I don't know Ben. They must be importing the ice from Canada I think
You are a real stinker Paul
Ottawa councillors passed a light-hearted resolution Tuesday banning Toronto jerseys to encourage pride in their team.
I can't believe I read this today....Maggie, did you have anything to do with this?????
Paul
What a Joke that is. I think now all the Leaf fans are going to show up at the games wearing their jerseys just to spite the councillors and to make it known that they will NOT go away. But it did make me laugh when I heard about it.
John
Hi Paul
They arn't banning them - they are saying that anyone wearing a leaf jersey must make a donation to the food bank.
I believe that Toronto is thinking of doing the same thing only with Sens fans
Nope - nothing to do with me. If it was up to me, I'd like to make them do something much more embarrasing ( any ideas John ? )
I am a little ticked that while Ottawa council are making sweeping cut backs to staff and services, they think they have time to talk about the NHL.
I wouldn't want to stop the leaf fans from coming - it's fun. I do get a little upset though by so many Ottawa residents who still support the leafs - what's up with those people ??
Maggie
To be honest I know absolutely nothing about hockey (I am assuming that is what this thread is about). I just picked the team closest to me, I assume they are probably in the cellar of the standings, as is usually the case with any team from Atlanta except the Braves. Truth is I just had to be involved with the most popular thread in the history of KickAS. I was feeling left out.
Johnny
Hey Johnny,
You have a lot in common with Ottawa fans....(little hockey knowledge) ...no offence....just a little dig at Maggie..heheheehe
Personally, I think all Leaf and Sens fans should have to buy and wear Habs jerseys everyday. It would be so enlightening for all of you!!!
A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss, Hopefully!
Hi Johnny
Don't listen to Paul - he dosn't know what he's talking about
Any team is a good choice really, just as long as it isn't the leafs.
Since you visited Ottawa before, you could actually support the Sens if you would like to
. That would be the best choice since they are going to win the Stanley Cup this year
Maggie
Thats right Maggie. We are going to WIN this year.
John
Well now, at least Johnny can speak the truth........... something Ottawa fans will learn soon enough, they ain't a playoff contender!
Can you believe the standings? In the East, 1st to 5th have clinched a berth, while in the west, the poor saps that can't play hockey have only one that has clinched a berth, Detroit!
If the playoffs started tonight, we'd be playing Ottawa and they'd be golfing in 4 games!
Doug
Well, the Leafs got blown away last night. Their future is looking bleaker. Let's hope they gel soon and that they are just relaxing for the playoffs.
Having said that, the Detroit Red Wings are probably going to win it all. Or the Habs. Sens? hmmmm, Devils (yup), Tampa looks hot, Boston. Wow, gooing to be some good playoffs.
Murray in Sarnia, Ontario
Hi Murray,
I will be happy if it is anyone but the Red Wings... sorry Cara if you are checking in here
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
OMG....too funny Angus!
Can't wait to hear Maggies reply!
[
Well, I thought we only play you one more time and that is this Saturday.
We will win it - that's for sure.
Also, I had heard there is a good chance we will meet you in the first round ? I could kick myself because we had a chance at tickets for the first playoff game and passed on it.
Now to the main part of your post. How old is your son ? Tell him from me that there is absolutely nothing wrong with Alfredsson. I think he is adorable.
He really rubs you leaf fans the wrong way dosn't he.
Lord, I hope he dosn't become one of you - that'll kill me. Then I'd have to really really hate the leafs.
I'm in no way ready to throw the towel in. I believe the Sens are saving their efforts for the playoffs.
Leafs are going down
Maggie
One down, four to go. We play you Saturday and then again April 3. My son is 8 and he knows his hockey.
He also knows a real NHL player from a figure skater.(Alfredsson?
) The sad fact is in the NHL palyoffs, defense wins, and that starts with the goalie. Should Belfour's back stay healthy, he's better than Lalime. (doesn't that mean lemon in French?
Maybe it's lime, but close enough.) The only thing scaring me right now, and it has nothing to do with the opposition, is the Leafs ability to produce on the power play, and specialty units can mean the difference between winning and loosing.
We've played the Sens four time so far and won three! And who can forget that four goal deficit we erased in the third period on Feb. 4 to win 5-4.
At any rate, by the time the playoffs roll around, Alfredsson's hair will be soooo long that he won't be able to see!
Just over a week to go. I can't wait!! Just a quick, off topic question, I was listening to The Fan 590 this morning and they had a guest on who thinks teams should be limited to three lines and the schedule should be cut back to 70 games. He felt this would get rid of the goons on the team, ie. Oliwa of the Flames who summer trains by going to a boxing gym, and this would greatly improve the quality of the games. It would also rid teams of these $1-2 million players who only see 5-6 mins. of ice time saving them $$. I think it's a wonderful idea. I find that a lot of games get bogged down by these fourth liners who should be in the AHL. Any thoughts?
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
That should read the Leafs INability to produce on the power play.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Toronto looked very good last night. Even Domi looked good.
And Detroit and Colorado game showed Detriot's awesome capabilities. And with Cujo not even playing.
Alfredson really could use a haircut or a new helmut. Those folks in Ottawa should chip in some money for him. It's too bad Ottawa will probably be out in the first round.
Take care, Murray
Well, tonights the night for NHL Ontario fans at least - Ottawa vs the Leafs.
I was at the game as the ACC around the end of January to see Ottawa get their butts kicked. My AS was absolutely brutal and I could barely walk with the pain. But, free tickets 15 seats behind the leafs bench made everything okay. We drove the three hours to Toronto and stayed overnight. The only drawback was going bra shopping at the Eaton Centre with my wife. Walking, walking, walking. Apparently, there is a rule that everytime we are in Toronto, we need to go bra shopping (and Chinatown). Thank God for Percocets.
The fans were chanting "Alfie, Alfie" as soon as he touched the puck. And that was the game Chara who is about 6'9" tossed the leaf player around like a ragdoll. During the warmups, Domi and Chara were chatting at centre ice - there was a height difference of about ten feet and they were all smiles.
tonight - Toronto 5 Ottawa 2
Of course, Detroit will smoke Colorado this afternoon on their quest for the cup. Beware of the Wings - they are the favorite to win the cup.
Have a good day.
Murray in Sarnia
FYI - those free tickets had a face value of $197.50 each. Ouch. But I could see Pat Quinns hair.
I like your thinking Murray.
T.O. 5-2 over the Sens.
I notice Maggie isn't saying much here, I guess she's nervous. How about a little wager on the battle of Ontario tonight? The loosing team's fans cheer for the other team on April 3? I don't think the Sens fans will go for it though. The price to go to an NHL game in Ontario is prohibitive to us common folk. Ever notice before the start of every period at a Leaf game about 2/3 of the platinum seats are EMPTY! All those suits sipping brandy while the real fans are up in the purple section, unable to read the names on the back of the jerseys, cheering as if their lives depended on it. They should put the corporate seats up in the purples and let the real fans watch from ice level.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Well, I guess everyone gets to keep cheering for their own team. No winners last night. It was a good game though. Rob Ray scored, go figure. Next thing you know Aki Berg will get a hat trick!
That's two down with no losses for T.O. with three to go. That'll be six more points.
GO! LEAFS GO!
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Senators re-sign captain Daniel Alfredsson to five-year contract!
Maggie, a good move by your team!
Now maybe he can afford a haircut!
I hadn't even heard that - Yahoo - Awesome
He dosn't need a hair cut - he's perfect
Maggie
Hi Angus
Well, we agree on one thing anyway. The corel centre has the same problem - all the expensive seats are half empty, even when it's a sell out. The occupants of those seats are off in the bars or wherever - while the true fans are cheering their hearts out in the cheap sections. This allways ticks me off !!!!!!!!!!
Maggie
Hi Maggie. It makes you scratch your head doesn't it? Why would tehy pay $200 per seat plus and not use them? If they want to be entertained and hob nob, go to the ballet or a stage presentation. If they want to sip brandy, go to a fancy bar or restaurant.
As for the Alfredsson signing, whew! At least he won't end up in T.O. That would mean I'd have to cheer for him.
But as we hockey fans know, signing an upcoming free agent doesn't mean they will stay with that team. It could be another GM has a deal in place but wanted him locked into a contract so they would know how much his salary would be. Budgets play a big roll now in signings. But for the Sens sake I hope he stays there. Your new owner seems willing to spend on payroll, which I'm sure is a huge relief to Sens fans. I liked Bryden though. He was stuck with a really bad deal from the Gov't. The municipal, provincial, and federal gov'ts are reaping the benifits of having a team out in the middle of no where Kanata, through all the taxes the Sens must pay, all the extra jobs... and made the poor guy pay for the ramps coming from, and going to, the 417! If that meant the Sens owned the ramps they should have been allowed to close them on nights there was nothing going on in the Corel Centre. To be completely honest, Ottawa is my second team. Should the Leafs get knocked out then I cheer for the Sens. Hey! At least they're here in Ontario. After that it's any Canadian team. Should there not be any Canadian teams, I look at who's left and figure out which one I dislike the most and cheer for the other team. With the possibility of a season void of any hockey, I'm going to catch as many games as I can.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Funny story -
My last boss gave me 2 tickets to a Sens game. They were right behind the Sens' bench - fabulous !!!!!!!
I couldn't help but notice though that all the seats around were half empty.
My boss was a nasty sarcastic SOB sometimes. At a later date he jeeringly pointed out what good tickets he gave me and that I usuually have to sit in the cheap seats. I said that's ok because all the real fans sit in the cheap seats. The good seats are filled with people who arn't even interested in the game.
OOPS - didn't go over too well.
Thats Good Maggie that you told him.
John
Well, three down and still without a loss.
The only problem is that those pesky Sens keep pace with us. They sure got lucky last night. I don't understand your boss, was he upset because he felt you were telling him that HE wasn't interested in the game? Oh well, sometimes the truth hurts. You know, it is VERY possible that the Leafs and Sens will meet in the first round, it will all depend on what Boston does. Then it will come down to who has home ice advantage. Since we are going to win our last two games, including the Sens game on Saturday, we'll get home ice advantage.
This is a very exciting finish to the season.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Yup, the Leafs won again last night. They showed perserverance when they were down 2-0. But the Sens pulled out a huge OT win. So, things are shaping up for a TO-Sens playoff series. That will be some excellent hockey.
I'm wondering if they'll just give Detroit the cup and forget the playoffs. Just a joke - it's just that Detroit is only an hour or so over the border from me. And there is lots of stuff on the radio, etc... Hockeytown already has their parade route planned.
And Maggie, your poor boss! It must be tough being able to afford those tickets. At least he gave you some tickets though.
Murrayh
The good seats are usually filled with "suits" Half of these people probably don't even know what event they are at......what a waste of a ticket!
If you ever want to have fun at a hockey game....the "Cheap Seats" are where you want to be! ...you can't see much...but it a heck of a lot of fun!
Actually though, at the corel centre, the cheap seats still have quite a good view. It was designed very well and I'm sure it seats a lot less than the Air Canada Centre right ?
You're so right - good seats are full of suits.
Are all you leaf fans ready for us to kick your butts in the first round ?
Maggie
We're always ready, but it never happens!
I guess the Sens aren't ready!
I attended a Sens game at the Corel Centre a few years ago in thre cheap seats. I think I was third or fourth row from the top. They were playing Vancouver and Damian Rhodes recorded his first career shut-out. We had this guy behind us, I'll never forfet it, everytime Radek Bonk touched the puck he started yelling, "Bonk! Bonk! Bonk!" (I guess he was a Flintstones fan too. There was one episode, I can't remember if it was when Fred was in a diet group or not, but the members would go around yelling Bonk! Bonk!... ) Then this guy behind us would taunt the Vancouver goalie with, "Corey! Your dinner's ready!" All game! I was hoping that he would loose his voice part way through the game, but he didn't. Oh well. The seats weren't bad, but it was a steep climb!
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Hey Maggie,
How difficult is it to get a ticket...tickets to a Sens game? Can you just walk up to the ticket window and purchase one?? I imagine during the playoffs it's unlikely...but during the regular season??
I'm not sure about this year, but do you remember last year there was a ban on selling playoff tickets to Leaf fans? All this discrimination against Leaf fans, I just don't get it.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Angus,
I don't understand it...we're such a loveable lot. And loyal....man I stuck with them through all the lousy years( most of them) If they ever won a cup, sheesh....just imagine
sheesh... tickets, what a sore point, even if I could afford a Leafs game, there are never any available, and that included the Ballard era too!
The Corel Centre - 18,500 seats
138 feet is the farthest seat from the ice
150 private suites on three levels
The Hanger - 18,800 seats
167 feet in basketball mode (nothing given for hockey mode)
40 Platinum Lounges (unique to a North American venue)
65 Executive Suites + 32 Theatre Suites + 16 Loge Suites (2nd and 3rd level loges)
Three Group Sales Areas, including a 200-seat gondola
one per cent of fixed seating for the disabled and their companions
Doug
Thanks for that info Doug....when I win the 6/49....I'll be sure to get you a couple of tickets!
OOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGG
You'll never guess what !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have 2 tickets to the 1st home game of the playoffs YIPPEE !!!!!!!!!
I think they are almost the back row but I don't care.
Hope it's against the leafs.
Our tickets are far cheaper than at the Air Canada centre I believe.
It is fairly easy to get tickets - depending on who they are playing. The cheap seats usually sell out early though.
I think that fans are waiting to see who they play in the first round. If it is the leafs - tickets will sell out within minutes ( no accounting for taste
)
Everybody jealous ??? Huh ???
Maggie
Maggie
I am jealous. When you are there can you see if it is wheelchair friendly please.
John
Wow! Even if you are in the back I am sure it will still be a lot of fun. Have a great time!
I think that no matter who they are playing, the 1st game will be enormous fun.
They will have the whole Corel centre so pumped up with extra "do dahs"
Thanks Cara
Maggie
Hi John
I believe that if you go to their website - it tells you about wheelchair accomodations
Maggie
Hey! Good for you!
As long as you're not too disappointed when the Leafs win, should they be your first opponent.
My only ticket is CBC. I couldn't afford to stand
outside the ACC during a Leaf game. It's still going to be a lot of fun for you. The reason the Corel Centre sells out so quickly if the Leafs play the Sens is because it's close enough to drive to from T.O. and tickets are available. So, Leaf fans leave Leaf Nation, travel down the 401 to catch a game they otherwise could never hope to see in town.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Wow. congrats Maggie. Tickets to the Corel Centre would be awesome during the playoffs. And against Toronto, the atmosphere would be electric. Very cool.
As stated by others, our tickets are CBC and TSN.
Murray
hard to believe, but Toronto is sold out, Ottawa is still trying to sell their tickets.... what's up with that?
Doug
And they call themselves hockey fans.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Oh Crap
That was awfull tonight !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess we're saving our best efforts for the playoffs
Maggie
Thats right Maggie. We will kick As* in the playoffs.
John
Good thing we took it easy on you last night. I'd hate to see how bad it could have been.
It's all about goaltending. The Sens should have picked up a goalie before the deadline, but they didn't. I just hope that should we meet you in the playoffs that the Sens won't be coming out to redeem themselves and catch us over confident. That could be really, really bad for us. But, Quinn will have them ready. A Boston loss or tie today and you won't have to worry about that, (GO Jersey), we'll be playing Montreal.
GO! LEAFS GO!No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Yep, I think you could be right about the goal tending - this sucks
Mind you, it would be nice if the refs wern't all leaf fans !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We could still make it though
Maggie
Refs Leafs fans???....ooh Maggie, that's a week long discussion...ask any Bud fan about that subject and I'm sure you'll hear an earful. Well it's Leafs And Sens again in the playoffs....it's sure to be a heck of a series! May the better team win ( Toronto)
Paul
Paul
May the better team win ( Toronto)
Paul I was going to fix your typo but thought maybe you might want to. I think you meant to say. May the better team win ( Ottawa )
John
Okay, let's see, refs are Leafs fans. Toronto was short handed for 386 mins. this season. That was 5th in the league. Where was Ottawa........Ah! There they are,
19th in the league with 347 mins.
Now which team do the refs favour? I seem to remember Daniel (or is that Danielle?) smashing Tucker's face into the glass with no penalty. Not only that, he scored the winning goal right after!
Or of course there was '93 when the Great One high sticked Gilmour in the face without getting a penalty, and he scored the winning goal too.Refs, Leaf fans? More like
. There are the consipracy theorists out there who say Bettman instructed the refs to make sure L.A. won because with there being no American teams left the largest television market would be lost. Then Owen Nolan was cut open this year because of a stick, no penalty. Tucker was nicely cut by a stick, no penalty. Yet if Domi or Belak are within 50 feet of the other team's player and they fall, Domi and/or Belak would get penalties.
BUT, I'm not bitter, it'll be that much sweeter when we win it this year.
GO! LEAFS GO!No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Well, it's time for the playoffs. Prediction time.
The Leafs in five. Montreal in six. Detroit in Four. And the rest - we'll see.
I wish the games started today though. We have to wait until Thursday to see Danielle prepare for the golf season. Hey Maggie, what game do you have tickets for? That would be so cool being there - I think you said their first home game. If Alfredson blows the series, he should pledge to the fans that he will shave his head.
Murray in Sarnia
Yeah!
Now that would be a sight!
And add to that, since he GUARANTEED a Stanley Cup, he plays for free until the Sens do win it.
Leafs in six, Devils in seven, Boston in five, Islanders in five, Detroit in four, St. Louis in six, Vancouver in six, Dallas in seven. These are my predictions. At least I hope it plays out this way, it's how I picked my players for the playoff pool.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
OK Everybody
SENS in 7 - that's all I know
(Lord - I wish we had a good goalie though)
I'll be at their 1st home game next Monday
leafs suck
Maggie
I agree the leafs suck, but history says they will beat the Sens.
Here are my picks for the playoffs. I have a disadvantage in picking as I only got to see three games all season.
Habs in 6
Laughs in 7
TB in 4
NJ in 6
Det in 4
Stl. in 6
Van in 5
Dal in 6
TB over Habs
in 5
NJ over Tor
in 6
Det over Stl in 4
Van over Dal in 7
NJ over TB in 7
Van over Det in 7
Van over NJ in 6
A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss, Hopefully!
You only got to see three games. Well, you might be right in your predictions. Imagine Vancouver winning the cup. Wow. I'd never hear the end of it from buddies out West.
Unfortunately or not, I'd speculate Detroit will be hard to beat. And Jersey. I'd love to see the Habs win it.
Just a tidbit of info though - My granny, rest her soul, was an original shareholder of Maple Leaf Gardens and had her shares until Steve Stavro made her sell them. She was into her 90's. She still would receive all of the Leafs stuff from the club yearly like the big calendars, etc... The leafs sent back the big huge stock certificate to her once it was cashed out. All of this memorabilia is in my brothers leafs room.
Granny told us that she didn't want to pass on until the Leafs won the cup. Well, she did a number of years back. Maybe this will be their year.
For now, Go Leafs.
Murray
Starting up huh Maggie ........ my prediction......LEAFS win the cup.....
I can't wait until our parade...I'll post pictures
As far as the Sens series goes...well...If I were a Sens fan ( then there would be three of us)...anyway....If I were a Sens fan.....I would be pretty nervous right about now....we own the Sens...always have always will....I think it might have something to do with the fact their captain...( with his girlish curly locks) YUCK....is a geek!
The gloves are off!!
It's the playoffs!
Paul
HMMMM, interesting stuff, very interesting indeed.
Whats Dannielle to do? A prediction to win the cup, he gave up salary last year, and all for what? To wear egg on his face!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA It'll go with his flowing yellow locks!
But seriously folks, if Belfour stays healthy, the CUP comes comes home to T.O.! nuff said.
Hey Ottawa fans, have you read
this? Whadda ya have to say to it? Huh??
GO LEAFS GO!!!Doug
No Doug, I hadn't read that. Contrary to what Torontonians think - Toronto is not the centre of the universe and I do not buy Toronto newspapers.
If you read the whole article, you would see that there is a little nervousness on the side of TO.
You should be nervous - we are going to surprise you
Sens rock
Leafs suck
Maggie
OK Paul - you got it !!!!!!!!! Gloves ARE off
Sens rock
leafs suck
Maggie
I'm with you Maggie
John
I like the article.
But I have a feeling that the Sens will win tonight. It pains me to say that, but if you read into the article, what do the Sens have to lose? They haven't beaten T.O. in the playoffs so there are no expectations. After being badly spanked last Saturday, they'll come out for redemption. The Leafs could possibly be over confident and be caught off guard. I am really praying the Leafs are aware that this is a huge possibility and be more pumped than ever, completely dominate the game, spank the Sens again, and watch the Sens completely implode.
That would really make me happy. Unfortunately I'll have to miss the first part of the game because my son has lacrosse practice. And Maggie, we don't think we're the centre of the universe, we don't even think we're the centre of the hockey universe,
we know!!!! You said gloves were off...
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
BOOOOOO!
Boy we were flat.....outhustled...outbanged...outscored.....you just made us mad...lookout now!
Maggie
Any time the SENS WIN is a GREAT Game But even a better game when we beat The Leafs.
John
oooooooooh I'm so scared
Right On
Great game tonight......
Well, I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. I believe a couple of postings back I said T.O. would probably shutout the Sens last night, and they did. Boy, that was a great game!!
I believe the Leafs will win the next one by a goal. If they don't, it'll be the last game the Sens win.
I'll be looking for you Maggie, so carry a big sign so we know it's you. This is going to be a great series.
GO! LEAFS GO! No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Have a great time at the game tomorrow evening, Maggie.
Toronto will get an early two goals and take the fans out of the game. The TO fans will take over with their noise. And thats it for the series.
And watch out for the Red Wings. After today, it 3 games to zero. They look strong.
Murray
Happy Easter!!
Listen you guys !!!!!!! - the Sens had better win tomorrow cause I'm gonna be there rootin for them.
They will win, I just know it !!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so excited about this. We're going early to take in all the hoopla. We'll get some pizza for supper at a booth there and then just walk around and around the corel centre untill it's time to go in to the rink. I may even buy a puck head ( ever seen those ? )
Then the real fun begins. SENS will score first for sure. In fact the leafs may not score at all
. Yeah, thats it - it's going to be Sens 3 - leafs 0000000000000
You may all be a little too embarrased to post after this game
Maggie
I'll be looking for you......I'll look for the lady crying the blues...because of the beating my Leafs will be giving your Sens!
Enjoy the game!
Lucky duck!
Paul
Little bit of egg on my face !!!!!!!!!!!!!
37 shots on goal by the Sens
17 shots on goal by the leafs
There's only one thing for it - Belfour has to go !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only saving grace was near the end - watching Domi miss a shot on an empty net.
Maggie
Hey Maggie,
We didn't deserve the win...but I'll take it!
Belfour should get a piece of everyones paycheck for that game.
Hope you enjoyed the game otherwise!
Oh yes......we're leading the series now...there's no looking back!
Boy o boy, did ya all see that????
Game on, Leafs all the way, the Sens had better start polishing their golf clubs!
Hey Maggie, you may as well jump on the Leaf bandwagon now while you have a chance!
p.s. you gonna go to game 4 and watch us humiliate Daniella again? You brought us good luck!!
Leafs in 5!
Eddie - Eddie - Eddie - Eddie - Eddie !!Doug
hey... I have to agree. The sens sure did outplay the leafs, but it's the final score that counts... (sorry Maggie!)
I dunno... it's hockey every night here.... Andre is a habs fan... I'm a leafs fan.... It's got so bad, we actually installed a second satellite receiver in the basement so the kids can watch something other than hockey at night!
(one major problem... I'm trying to sew all the costumes for a production of Annie and I only have two weeks left.... I keep sewing my bloody finger to things, and knocking the box of pins on the floor in the excitement!!!!
)
Maxine
May the roof above us never fall in, and the many friends gathered below it never fall out.
Maxine,
You have good taste when it comes to hockey teams!
Hey Maxine
In reply to
Andre is a habs fan... I'm a leafs fan.
________________________________________________________________
Don't you guys worry there is help for people like you. It's called being a SENS FAN.
John
I'll Never Ever become a leaf fan - never ever.
All hope is not lost. Maybe Belfour will trip someplace and sprain an ankle or something. You leaf fans know the leafs would be nothing without him.
Go Sens
I enjoyed it very much but I was so looking forward to that moment when the goal is scored and the crowd leaps up and just goes insane - it never happened.
You should have seen and heard everyone when the Sens first came on the ice though - it was amazing - really a lot of fun.
I still can't belive it 37 to 17 shots and not a single goal
Maggie
Maggie
Our son is going to the game tomorrow night. You never know he might just get to see the SENS kick some AS*
John
Tomorrow for sure they'll figure a way to get the puck past Belfour
Maxine, I believe that by your partner being a Habs fan is grounds for seperation!! OMG! I could never imagine myself living with a Habs fan. I have a couple of friends who are, and that's bad enough. But should a comprimise be needed one day, becoming Sens fans is
NOT the answer,
you'll have to look at becoming a Bruins fan. Yet, better still, become Kingston Frontenacs fans. OHL hockey is great hockey, and Kingston has had some great players come out of their system. But if I were you I'd stick to my guns and stay a Leafs fan!
GO!! LEAFS GO!!No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Well, my last post had the Red Wings sweeping their series against Nashville. Talking about egg on my face. The series is tied 2-2 heading back into Joe Louis Arena. And the Wings looked awful. They pulled their goalie, Mannie Legace, and put CUJO in net for the third period. He hasn't played for months. Wow, what a mess.
And last night, the Habs had that goal scored with seconds left in the third period. And then overtime. They may as well get out their golf clubs. I wanted to see them win since they are Canadian.
And the Leafs - talking about decisive! We had a friend come by who is not a hockey watcher and stated "what is with that guys hair?" - talking about Daniella. I had to laugh.
Thankfully and mercifully, the Leafs can get on with round two now that pesky Ottawa is just about out of the way.
Take Care, Murray in Sarnia
Hope the Habs lose in 5... talk about a bunch of sissy's. Look like soccer players on the ice hoping for a call. Why don't they try playing some hockey instead?
Leafs up 2-1 in series and you are calling the series over.

What is all this anti-Habs talk? Everyone knows they are the only team really worth supporting! Unlike the Laughs and politicans.

Maggie
How do you like those SENS.
John
They are the best arn't they John ?
Notice all those leaf folks are pretty darned quiet all of a sudden
Maggie
We're not quiet. We just try to get some sleep after the games. You see, we don't have to worry about the outcome of the series as Sens fans do, so we don't loose any sleep and play on the computer to pass time.
No, you see, if the series continues the way it has we'll win the next two games. Sens won the first one, Leafs won the next two, Sens won last night, Leafs win the next two, and the series is over.
We let Nieuwendyk stay home, we took Mats off in the second, just to rest up, we took Tucker out, we had Domi on the power play
, and, the players bench became the penalty box.
We've overcome greater odds than this before, and we'll overcome them again. It sure is exciting though.
It's also nice to have people to talk hockey with, thanks Maggie.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Two incidents in consecutive games of the Habs taking dives to get calls... once they got it, the other time it cost them the game.
"Ribeiro fell to the ice in dramatic fashion Sunday night with 34 seconds remaining, drawing a whistle while the Bruins had pulled goalie Andrew Raycroft and were pressing for the tying goal.
A trainer appeared to treat Ribeiro's shoulder, but the Bruins suspect he embellished the injury and were incensed that he was grinning and exchanging taunts with Boston players from the bench afterward."
Once he got to the bench he was all grins and giggles. Acted like a little school kid that got away with something.
Alexei Kovalev claims his hand went numb and the officials blew it. Sheldon Souray said that doesn't mean you stop playing. Whatever the case, Kovalev and Souray collided in the neutral zone, allowing Glen Murray to pick up the loose puck, skate in and beat Jose Theodore for the game-winner 9:27 into the second overtime that gave the Bruins a 3-1 series lead. "There's nothing you can say about that," said Kovalev, whose right hand was wrapped in a bag of ice. "We ended up in the middle of the ice, and Sheldon ended up losing the puck." Kovalev argued in The Boston Globe that "One thing I know, they would have called it on me if I did that. It feels like (the Bruins) didn't get lucky, they got help." Souray had another take. "He (Kovalev) says he got slashed. Well, yeah, but do you stop playing? It's double overtime, (the referees) are going to let you play at that point," an upset Souray told the Toronto Star.
I watched the end of the Habs game with my brother and saw the "slash".... the commentators back in the studio even laughed at the theatrics. I think he got his just results.
I played soccer for years... I have a hard time watching soccer because of all the dives people make to draw whistles so I rarely watch. Reason I love hockey is because they are tough and play through the pain. Not the case recently with the Habs in past two games.
I do not dislike the Habs... just their recent antics.

Kind of like the "major injury" he received in the Big Apple when he was hit with a howitzer. He was taken to the dressing room by the trainers who expected nothing short of an ended career. Then he came back out to score the tying goal, and I believe he assisted the winning goal. He writhed on the ice as if his head was taken off. Refs don't forget things like that. He has a reputation for embelishing, so unless his hand is hanging almost off, he won't get the call. Souray is right, even if his hand went numb, kick the puck away or to a team mate. You don't skate away from the play looking at the refs to see if you're going to get a call.,
especially if you're the last guy back. Kovalev bumped into Souray as Souray was coming back, so there was no one else to defend the puck. Unbelievable. Aparently he was having a heck of a game too. Now all anyone will remember Kovalev for is causing the winning goal and putting the Habs down 3 games to 1. Too bad.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Whoo hoo hoo.... hohoho, hehehe.... he skates like a ballerina too!

Wow, a tangled web we weave in the world of hockey.
Tonight is the night for the leafs. At least it better be. I'll admit they were sorta beat up last game. However, it was all for show to give the poor fans in Ottawa some semblance of hope. Imagine having your Captain looking like bimbo the clown.
Does anyone remember the song: "Bimbo, bimbo, I'm a happy birthday clown, bimbo, bimbo, I'm a happy birthday clown and I would like to say.... I wish you a happy birthday." I believe it was from the kids TV show rocketship 7. (You would have had to grow up in Toronto/Buffalo area during the 60's and 70's.)
Of course, I did enjoy the ballerina picture of Alfie.
Enjoy the game tonight.
Murray in Sarnia
PS - I enjoy watching Junior A hockey and have season tickets to the Sarnia Sting. Anyways, last night on TV, they showed the London Nights vs the Guelph Storm. In my humble opinion, it was way more exciting to watch than the two NHL games on - Montreal and Detroit. These guys were end to end hockey. London won in overtime to tie up the series 1-1.
Well now, that was a game..... amazing how well the flow goes when the refs stay out and let the players decide. Close checking, low shooting, and Belfour shining yet again. And Domi getting the winning goal, how's about that Sens fans!
Fact for thought---- Teams that win game 5 after the series is tied go on to win the round 80% of the time.... and the fact we do well in the Corel Centre looks good for us.
ps... Whats with Daniella and his promises again? "We are definately going to win games 5 & 6"??
Small problem there bucko, there's an Eagle in your way!
GO LEAFS GO!!
Doug
Maggie: "Notice all those leaf folks are pretty darned quiet all of a sudden
"
Hmmm, seems the Sens fans are awfully quiet. Maybe now they are sleeping after coming to the realization their season is over. To quote Daniella Alfredsson: " You haven't seen the end of us." He's right, we have one more game,
then we'll have seen the end of them.
Imagine, Smolinski scoring the winning goal and the Leafs win!
Oh well, it ain't over 'till the weight challanged lady sings, and the fourth win is alway the hardest to get. See you all tomorrow night in fron of the t.v. watching the game.
GO! LEAFS GO!No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Looks like the Eddie the Eagle is hot again this playoff season.
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
Hey Doug.... has the Corel lifted it's ban on Leaf jerseys yet? I seem to recall that there was a big problem as they said that there were more leaf jerseys than sens jerseys in the crowd, so the leafs fans were instructed to take off their blue and white in order to enter the arena.....
Poor sens... not enough supporters eh?
Great game last night guys..... I was trying to sew buttons onto costumes at the same time and I almost bled to death!!!!! I kept jumping up and sticking myself with the damn needle.
I think I'll even get some beer for Sunday...... get ready for the celebration!!
GO LEAFS GO!Maxine
May the roof above us never fall in, and the many friends gathered below it never fall out.
I agree with you Tim.... even Andre was disgusted and he is a "die hard" habs fan. What made it even worse was that the next day he blamed his team mate Souray.... that's just plain childish.... it's like jumping out of the window and blaming your injuries on the guy that failed to catch you!!!
Anyhow.... we will be watching tonight.... I'm just hoping for some good hockey... none of the theatrics...
Maxine
May the roof above us never fall in, and the many friends gathered below it never fall out.
Okay, the heat is on! Will the Sens show up tonight? Or will they reflect their captain Daniella and resemble nothing but a bunch of hot air? I really hope the
Leafs show up tonight, they have a penchant for making things hard on themselves.
That Calgary/Vancouver game was a great one. I couldn't stay awake long enough to watch the whole game, but what I did see, Calgary showed a lot of grit, and I like that. Vancouver didn't say die either. I almost wish I lived in the west so I could watch those two teams play more often. A friend of mine sent me a link to a
Senators song. There is the a_ _ word, and the he_ _ word in it, each used once. I hope you all enjoy it.
GO! LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
They still have the ban in place..... except if you bring food for the food bank! Then you can wear your Leafs Jersey....
Doug
That's a great song.... Nottawa!

Nobody posting from the Leaf side yet. Seems to be pretty quiet on the Leaf side of things.
John
I have two words, Kerry Fraser. 'nuff said. It's too bad this series has to end and one team has to lose (Ottawa). It is entertaining hockey. But I will say one thing, Belfour has been great.
GO! LEAFS GO!!!!! No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Wow!
Right to the bitter end...Angus is right, it's a shame one of these teams has to lose ( Ottawa) Game 7 should be a pretty exciting affair!
May the better team win (LEAFS!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I don't know if I can stand it!!!!
Stuck my finger on the hot-glue gun when the Sens scored last night.... a painful reminder of the game! I also made a "boo-boo"..... I didn't realize that Andre was speaking to his Mom via audio on MSN ...... even though she doesn't speak a word of English... it appears she does know what f*** means in English!!!!
.... especially when it's repeated a number of times.. and very loudly I might add!
I "third" the sentiment about someone having to lose. It's been a great series and a shame that one team has to go. Belfour was absolutely unbelievable as usual... Lalime played a "blinder" too.
I get to watch the Habs game tonight with Andre.... that should be a good game too. I sure hope that the Habs win else it's going to be pretty miserable around here.

Little Johnny was in his nursery class when the teacher asked the children
what their fathers did for a living.
All the typical answers came up - fireman, policeman, salesman, etc...
Johnny was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him
about his father.
"My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his
clothes
in front of other men.
Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll go out to the alley with some
screaming gay guy and have sex with them."
The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other
children to work on some colouring, and took little Johnny aside to ask
him, "Is that really true about your father?"
"No," said Johnny, "he plays for the
Leafs but I was too embarrassed to say
so".
I got home and was able to catch 3rd period and OT's for the Leafs/Sens game. Very exciting game. Hope game 7 is just as good.

Are you ready for tonight??? I had to say a little prayer for all the Leaf Fans because it is going to be hard on them seeing their team go
DOWN Tonight. On the brighter side of the Leafs going
DOWN all the Shrinks in TO will be making alot of Money listening to the Leaf Fans Cry about Losing.
John
John......I'd like you to re-read that post tonight after.....WE WIN.
Anyone catch the Flames/Canucks game... what a great 3rd period and OT. Got home late and caught the end. Hope the Leafs/Sens game is just as exciting.
Was hoping for a Avalanche/Red Wings 2nd round.... maybe next round.
Tim
Hope is only a post away with KickAS.
I too was hoping that the Wings would play the Ave's. Ho hum.....
I would so like to see Ottawa beat Toronto. So my fingers are crossed.
Ahem..... uh, John, Maggie..... what happened? The
NOTtawa Sens choked again? Oh how could that be? Perhaps Daniella should reconsider fortune telling? Perhaps Ottawa would be wise to get a goalie that can actually stop a puck?
Um, oh ya, another stat worth mentioning, 4 to nothing, the number of series won by Toronto, or lost by Ottawa.
Is that
YOLK in the collective Sen fan faces?
Who's afraid to come out now?
Hey, at least we still have 3 Canuck teams alive!
Oh! Hear that? That's Ottawa fans clambering aboard the be-LEAF bandwagon!
GO LEAFS GO!!!
Bring on the Flyers!!

Amazing, isn't it? 32 pages on hockey......... are we passionate or what?!? History in the making. gotta love it!
Well, I guess I'll see you all next season
No Doug - I'll never be a leaf fan.
Maggie
well,
being somewhat 'hockey oblivious' a couple thoughts...watched parts of two hockey games this week...
why was no one in ottowa playing with the intensity of the bruins (who looked ferocious) ?
in basketball(don't know about hockey) when you break away three on two headed for the goal if you
want to win you go to the hole...you don't pull up to organize a play...?
is " Francis " russ francis of the hartford whalers ?
last night's game looked really ugly...all those ottowa shots and nothing in the net...must be frustrating.
maybe i'll watch a whole game next season
aloha Ben
Was that a bell I heard? Because someone got schooled.
Did the sun rise in the nation's capitol this morning?
When do we play each other again? What a rivalry we have developed over the last few years. I guess the Sens will be hearing the number
4 for quite a while. Lost
4 -1, lost
4 games, eliminated
4 times, and they'll be hearing
fourrrrr! as they are driving their carts down the fairway.
It was a great series though. You had me worried. Daniella would make a fantastic fortune teller, they never get it right anyway.
Maggie, it's okay to cheer for Ontario's other, (first), team. Secretly, if there are no other Canadian teams left, and the Bruins, Detroit, oh heck, if Montreal, the Rangers or Flyers, are the only other teams playing, I cheer for the Sens. It's only right. Thanks again for starting this thread.
GO!!!! LEAFS GO!!!!!No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
You're close Ben, it's Ron Francis, and he did play for Hartford from '81 - '91.
No one said life would be easy, just worth it.
Heard a couple great tidbits on the radio this am........
There was substantial yelling in the Sens dressing room after the game....
Daniella tore a strip off of his team mates for poor judgement....
They dumped his conditioner down the drain!
AND apparently Ottawa has mis-placed another hundred million bucks similiar to the sponsorship scandal, except it wasn't our politicians that mis-placed it.... it was Eugene Melnyk wondering were his investment went!
Doug
Second Round - bye, bye Ottawa. And onto the Flyers. I've gotten a few emails and phone calls from friends in other parts of the country. ANd they're saying the Leafs are not tough enough to beat the Flyers. Even the TSN dude said the same thing. Well, they are wrong. Leafs in Six.
And, I understand that the NHL is thinking of giving the Wings a bye directly into round three.
I'd like to see the Habs keep going. Watch for Thorton to be traded if it is contracturally possible. He was a poor as Alfie. How much money was Alfie just given? Poor Laline.
Enjoy Thursdays game.

Should the SENS reserve a GOLF course for the LEAFS. After last nights game I think they may be Golfing sooner than you think.

You know what? It really doesn't matter if the Leafs go any further, they beat the Sens and that's all that matters. Mind you, SHOULD the Habs advance, I'd be icing on the cake if the Leafs could advance too, just to put them out. It'll be a good, rough series. I really didn't expect the Leafs to win last night. Coming out of the first with a 1 - 1 tie was good enogh for me. When they get rested and get a few healthy bodies back, they'll more than give the Flyers a run for their money. Take Yzerman and Shanahan out of Detroit and cripple Datsyuk and what would Detroit be able to do? With Mogilny still playing with a sore hip, Sundin and Nolan out, these are pretty important players to the Leaf team. They battle hard and that's all I ask for. I'd rather see Antropov out of the line up and give Kaberle only 10 mins. a game though. Keberle is so afraid of being hit he'd rather watch the Philly player take the puck and try to check him after.
Where's Maggie?

I was sorry to see Ottawa's coach get canned...it was nice having the guy around every playoff.....gonna miss him!

Has it really been 37 years since we won???

hey,
i just want to know does the gouvenour general of the canadian provinces go to florida in may and
demand the return of lord stanley's cup....or did the us win it fair and square...i'm sure we could find
a shelf in the smithsonian for it...such a pity; they don't play hoockey anymore.
poor maggie, this was the SENSationals year.

aB
Hi Ben
I don't know if it was to be the Sens' year. They went and fired the coach, even though I told them not to
I don't think the winning team holds on to the REAL cup. I could be wrong but I think the real Stanley cup is in the Hockey Hall of Fame in - where else - the big TO.
Take Care
Maggie
Hey Maggie,
I wonder about that...I think you're right, although the team definitely gets to keep the "real" Cup right after the playoffs, as each player and coach gets a turn with it for a few days. Of couse, being a hockey fan, I'm sure you've heard many of the legendary stories about various abuses the poor Cup has suffered on these excursions--dents, dings, babies' bare bottoms sitting in the bowl while it is used as a tub, accidentally being left at bars, many visits to strip clubs in recent years. The list goes on and on!
I never thought about the fact that the Tampa Bay Lightning(!!!) might be the last team to win the Cup as we know it today. I swear, the way both sides are acting in this dispute, and the way the fans haven't even seemed to notice, makes me fear that the NHL as we knew it is done and gone. I heard over the weekend from a friend of mine who knows people in the Red Wings organization that the player's association is telling players that if there ends up being no season this year, as there obviously won't be, that they should plan on there being no season next year also and make appropriate financial arrangements. If the NHL is gone for two full years, it will be gone forever. There will certainly be another league to take its place, but I can't believe the arrogance and stupidity of all involved in this dispute. Can't they realize that, other than the diehard fans, people just don't care about hockey the way the do the other major sports? That, in the US anyhow, hockey really can't even be called a "major" sport anymore, as NASCAR is clearly more popular and should be thought of as the "fourth major."?
I have never seen a group of athletes and owners be so absolutely suicidal as the hockey folks are being right now. When baseball lost the World Series, it took a LONG time for the fans to come back, and that is supposedly the U.S. national pasttime (although in reality, football passed baseball a long time ago). People are realizing they can get along just fine without pro hockey, and I think the folks involved in this fiasco are in for a rude awakening if (not when) they come back. I know here in Michigan anyhow (much like in Canada), there is plenty of hockey for folks who love the game--great teams at the University of Michigan and Michigan State, as well as very competitive teams at schools like Ferris State and Lake Superior State; plenty of minor league hockey in almost every Michigan city of any note, not to mention Sarnia, Windsor, and Sault St. Marie; junior hockey; travel hockey, even high school hockey--many hockey fans are learning that these options are often more exciting than the pro game anyhow.
I just shake my head every time I hear another story about how the two sides aren't even talking. It's just sad.
Brad
Hi Brad
Well I think that in Canada, many people care very much about hockey. They are finding other leagues to watch right now ( as we have ) but I think that, for many, none of these are as exciting as the NHL. However, I think that even the most "die hard " fans find the NHL salaries are completely ludicrous - to the point where they may even settle for watching different leagues rather than see those high salaries continue.
Gosh I hope the cup is safe and sound.
Maggie
Hi Maggie
In reply to:
Well I think that in Canada, many people care very much about hockey
I think that's a bit of a understatement seeing as this thread has been active for more than 15 months, the pages eagerly read 10,895 times and, if you are using the default, is 50 pages long! Canadians don't just care about hockey, they foam at the mouth when they simply hear the word hockey. I thought us Americans were crazy about football...and we are...but you guys have taken crazy way beyond the defined limits! All this for a game that even the cameramen can't keep up with.
