OK... for those of you that remember the song by Chicago, I love it because takes me back at times just listening to it.

So my question... what is something that makes you think back to you when are young when you see, smell, hear something...

For me...
- When I hear single small air plane I think of my grandparents house on my dad's side. They lived close to small airport and when we visited in summer would always hear a small airplane flying over.

- When I hear song "In the air tonight" by Phil Collins I always think about my high school soccer team. We lost one evening to best team in conference. Bus ride home was silent and that song played on speaker in bus.

Couple items from me... how about the rest of you.

Keep kicking!

AC/DC- Highway to He##,time spent at college while supporting the Adolph Coors family trust.
Ted Nugent- Scream Dream, two years spent working in a town called Ticaboo by Lake powell what a party that was.
There are more but you are right those are things that instantly trigger memories of certain times in my life.

Whenever we have anything with blackberries in it I am reminded of my grandparents. They had a small chicken ranch with walnut trees and lots of berry bushes, My brother and I would go out with buckets and pick and eat till we were stuffed. We would come back all scratched up and covered with juice and dirt. I remember grandma making Swedish pancakes with the berries. She always complained that she couldn't grow lingonberries in CA and I told her that when I was all grown up, I would grow some for her.

the smell of violets and lilacs remind me of my grandmother.

playing my elvis, johnny mathis, brenda lee christmas albums reminds me of my father, and christmases growing up.

a perfect blue sky with big puffy white clouds reminds me of those school-free lazy summer days under the giant spruce trees lying on the cool green grass looking up at that perfect blue sky with the big white puffy clouds.

eating a perfectly ripe peach with juice dripping down my chin, or eating ice cream in a sugar cone also reminds me of those summers.

playing miniature golf reminds me of summer evenings at the boardwalk when i was growing up, no matter where i play it these days.

cooking a big pot of pasta fagioli, a batch of manicotti, cheese cake cupcakes, deviled eggs, any of the family recipes, reminds me of my mother.

hearing "every little thing she does is magic" reminds me of my husband's and my first "date". hearing anything by dave edmunds or nick lowe reminds me of the free dave edmunds concert on campus my husband took me to, a month after we started dating. and most punk or new wave pretty much reminds me of those college days.

hearing the spring peepers reminds me of the first house my husband and i rented, and our time there.

and.......
The smell of fresh baked homemade bread reminds me of my grandmother, somehow we always managed to steal a loaf from her back porch, pull it apart and slather it with home churned butter and honey.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Okay, for me those malted chocolate easter eggs in turquoise, hot pink, yellow and white. If you lick one of those they make "FAB-U-LOUS" lipstick! Takes me back to easter egg hunts on cold, dew laiden mornings at my uncle's cabin, circa 1981.

For Songs:
The original "Life is a Highway": age 16-17 working as a waitress to make the car payments on my red camaro. It was old but I beat a porche (also old) in a race once! 1cup

Alphaville's "Forever Young" was played at a funeral for a 14 year old boy in my class. It still brings me back and is a sweet memory as it spoke what we all felt in our broken hearts.

Wow, then there are certain cologne scents that bring me back so fast my neck almost snaps: Eternity (the jock), Obsession (the preppy), and good old Stetson (the cowboy, of course) lol (giggles naughtily) tongue3

Gotta go before my hubby reads over my shoulder! Bye!
Jergen's lotion always reminds me of my grandmother. The smell of sheets dried outside (doesn't happen often) reminds me of growing up. Homemade biscuits (doesn't happen often) reminds me of my precious mother-in-law. Piano music (especially a good Boogie Woogie) reminds me of my mother. The little blue flowers that come up in the grass in early spring and the little white flowers remind me of being a little girl and picking bouquets for my Mom. Books remind me of my Dad. The basketball tournament reminds me of my High School days. Good memories.

Good question.

The smell of a two-stroke bike engine and the smell of leather. Reminds me of going walkabout with hundreds of other bikers on a summers evening. With a police escort of course. And racing home on the motorways after being at a race meeting at brands hatch.

Cool Question Tim!
Hearing Heart "Magic Man" takes me back to my first concert (Heart and Paper Lace, Vets Memorial, Columbus,OH) and my teen love.

KISS "Rock and Roll All Night" KISS's first major tour, and that date with that hot older girl from that other school!! wink3 We had front row mezanine seats at stage left, looking right down over Gene Simmons. All the pyrotechnics mushrooming over our heads and the speaker stacks blasting right beside us....Very Cool Night!!

Fresh Cinnamon Rolls. My Grandma Scott...Undoubtly the best baker I ever knew. Something was always being baked in her kitchen.

Eating Soup Bean Sandwiches. All of the great days of hunting with my grandpa Scott. The bean sandwich was a staple of our days in the field with the beagles chasing rabbits.
Ok weekend is almost over and nobody has given the obvious answer, so I feel compelled to give it...

Answer: seeing a thread about thinking about old times makes you think about old times.

Doesn't it?
Long drives home from taking my kids to a sporting event.

Driving home today after spending the weekend with my kids at the beach for nipper branch titles I got tears in my eyes.
For 2 reasons.
Firstly it made me think of all the long drives home with my mum from a weekend at one sporting event or another. Mum and I were never very close except on those trips. I don't know what it was but something brought us together at that time.

And secondly as I was driving I was thinking about how I and my kids would look back on this weekend. Would they look back with a smile on their face as I do thinking back to my sporting days.
I ws so proud of them this weekend and want to freeze that into my memory forever.

well, i did have a close thought. that song by chicago does it to me every time yes
Hey,

Thanks for sharing everyone!

I had another flash back today by chance... a bus drove over a cup and it made a loud "pop".

For me, reminds me of baseball games at the old Milwaukee County Stadium where the Brewers used to play. After games... all the young kids would run around looking for empty cups, turn them upside down and stomp on them to make a loud "pop".

Today it sounded exactly the same... so took me back for a moment.

Keep kicking everyone! Anyone have some more?

Tim
