PARTY TIME!

PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 04:00 PM

Greetings everyone.

The doors are open.

Welcome to the "welcome home, Possi" party! We're celebrating the happy return of Possi to the fold after her 13 minute absence.

Please join us for the next four hours of fun, music, jokes, laughter, good food and toasts! Drop in or stay for the duration. Hopefully, many of us will be on line at the same time, having fun together.

I've brought along devilled nuts and ginger macadamia mix for the NSDers. I have a glass of wine at the ready for the first toast.

Thank you to all the organizers and planners.

Have fun!

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 04:17 PM

A couple of jokes to get the humour started:

If it's zero degrees outside today and it's supposed to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold is it going to be?

Lewis bought two horses, and could never remember which was which. A neighbor suggested that he cut the tail of one horse and that worked great until the other horse got his tail caught in a bush. It tore just right and looked exactly like the other horse's tail and Lewis was stuck again.
The neighbor suggested he notch the ear of one horse. That worked fine until the other horse caught his ear on a barbed wire fence. Once again Lewis couldn't tell them apart.
The neighbor suggested he measure the horses for height. When he did, he was very pleased to find that the white horse was 2 inches taller than the black one.

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 04:22 PM

2 times zero=that is definitely more than Less Than Zero, which was a pretty good book, but not as good Catcher in The Rye, so is the answer it will be colder than J.D. Salinger?

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 04:29 PM

Okay - time for some more humour. A longer joke this time and apologies to anyone who knows it already:

Bill Gates dies He finds himself in purgatory, being sized up by St. Peter.

"Well, Bill, I'm really confused on this call. I'm not sure whether to send you to Heaven or Hell. After all, you enormously helped society by putting a computer in almost every home in America, yet you also created that ghastly Windows '95. I'm going to do something I've never done before in your case: I'm going to let you decide where you want to go."

Bill replied, "What's the difference between the two?"

St. Peter said, "I'm willing to let you visit both places briefly, if it will help your decision."

"Fine, but where should I go first?"

"I'll leave that up to you."

"Okay then," said Bill, "Let's try Hell first."

So Bill went to Hell. It was a beautiful, clean, sandy beach with clear waters and lots of bikini-clad women running around, playing in the water, laughing and frolicking about. The sun was shining, the temperature perfect. He was very pleased.

"This is great!" he told St. Peter. "If this is hell, I REALLY want to see heaven!"

"Fine," said St. Peter, and off they went.

Heaven was a place high in the clouds, with angels drifting about, playing harps and singing. It was very nice, but not as enticing as Hell.

Bill thought for a quick minute, and rendered his decision. "Hmmm. I think I'd prefer Hell," he told St. Peter.

"Fine," retorted St. Peter, "as you desire." So Bill Gates went to Hell. Two weeks later, St. Peter decided to check on the late billionaire to see how he was doing in Hell. When he got there, he found Bill, shackled to a wall in a dark cave, screaming amongst hot flames, being burned and tortured by demons.

"How's everything going?" he asked Bill.

Bill responded, with his voice filled with anguish and disappointment, "This is awful! This is nothing like the Hell I visited two weeks ago! I can't believe this is happening! What happened to that other place, with the beautiful beaches, the scantily-clad women playing in the water?"

"That was a demo," replied St. Peter.

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 04:31 PM

This goes out to the other teachers in the group...
HOW PROFESSORS GRADE THEIR EXAMS

DEPT OF STATISTICS:
All grades are plotted along the normal bell curve.

DEPT OF PSYCHOLOGY:
Students are asked to blot ink in their exam books, close them and turn them in. The professor opens the books and assigns the first grade that comes to mind.

DEPT OF HISTORY:
All students get the same grade they got last year.

DEPT OF RELIGION:
Grade is determined by God.

DEPT OF PHILOSOPHY:
What is a grade?

LAW SCHOOL:
Students are asked to defend their position of why they should receive an A.

DEPT OF MATHEMATICS:
Grades are variable.

DEPT OF LOGIC:
If and only if the student is present for the final and the student has accumulated a passing grade then the student will receive an A else the student will not receive an A.

DEPT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE:
Random number generator determines grade.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT:
Each student must figure out his grade by listening to the instructor play the corresponding note (+ and - would be sharp and flat respectively).

DEPT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
Everybody gets an A.

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 04:36 PM

When you have sons, you get to find out things like...

1.) A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.
2.) If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.
3.) A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.
4.) If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape.
It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.
5.) You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.
6.) The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.
7.) When you hear the toilet flush and the words 'uh oh', it's already too late.
8.) Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.
9.) A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36- year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.
10.) Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old Boy.
11.) Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.
12.) Super glue is forever.
13.) No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.
14.) Pool filters do not like Jell-O.
15.) VCR 's do not eject 'PB & J' sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.
16..) Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
17.) Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.
18.) You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.
19.) Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.
20.) The fire department in Austin ! , TX has a 5-minute response time.
21.) The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.
22.) It will, however, make cats dizzy.
23.) Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.
24.) 80% of Women will pass this on to almost all of their friends, with or without kids.
25.) 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid

Round Like A Shot

News article from Essex, UK:

Going to bed the other night, I noticed people in my shed stealing things.

I phoned the police but was told no one was in the area to help. They said they would send someone over as soon as possible.

I hung up. A minute later I rang again. "Hello," I said, "You don't have to hurry now because I've shot them."

Within minutes there were half a dozen police cars in the area plus helicopters and an armed response unit. They caught the burglers red-handed.

One of the officers said, "I thought you said you'd shot them."

To which I replied, "I thought you said no one was available."

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 05:29 PM

We need these computers, Molly, to join in this kind of party. Hope yours holds up.

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on. At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release
stating: If GM had developed technology like! Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive -- but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.

7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 05:37 PM

I think all ASKickers struggle with their doctor appointments. I thought this one would resonate:

I went to the doctor for my yearly physical.

The nurse starts with the basics.

"How much do you weigh?" she asks.
"135," I said.

The nurse puts me on the scale.
Turns out I'm 168.

The nurse asks, "What's your height?" "5 foot 8," I said.
The nurse checks and sees that I'm 5' 5".

She sits me down on the exam table and takes my blood pressure and tells me it's very high.
"Of course it's high !" I screamed. "When I came in here I was tall and thin, now I'm short and fat !"

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 05:37 PM

I also love that (true) story about the time Bill Gates got a pie thrown at him from a protestor when he left the building after a speech. The next day he called the police to report it.

They said to him "Please step outside again now sir."

And he did so and returned to the phone.

And they said "Did the problem repeat itself?"

And he said "Of course not!"

And the police replied: "Well, sir, we seem to have fixed the problem. If you have any other problems, please do not hesitate to call us again, have a nice day!"

Hey Dow,

It is asking for bits to be plugged in. Will have a look another time, it is a bit beyond me tonight. I mean this morning. Have always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon.

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 05:52 PM

Sorry, it probably wants some Quicktime installer bits. But it's similar to the ones you linked to (although those are cooler, you can look up and down as well, haven't figured out how to do that!)

The Grand Canyon is amazing, and also pretty scary

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:02 PM

I talked to those lads once.... before they hit it big.

Anywhoooo..... time for bed.

Someone have some wine and chocolate for me, and give the guest of honour a hug when she gets here.

Party hard, have fun, don't drink 'n' drive, and remember - friends don't let friends drive naked.

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:12 PM

Sonar, one of our dogs pack is really clumsy, and starting to gain more than a few pounds, can't figure out a way to put him on a diet, since we feed them all together. May have to start walking him by himself!
Posted by: MollyC1i

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:14 PM

How do you play the game Dow - rephrase (just in case there are several rules scheduled...) how is the game played?
Posted by: Dow

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:15 PM

That is great! Posting pictures is a little bit of a head-scratch. You have to put them on a server somewhere, and then make a link to them. If you want to email them to me, I'd post them here for you!
Posted by: MollyC1i

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:19 PM

Get him a treadmill - that way, you get to recline, and he gets to walk... Or, one of bicycle thinggies, attached a 'walker' to the side and a hrness. Real neat. Would love ne ofr houndette, but, don't trust French dribers - `they spare NO-ONE, and, have NO respect for horse riders...stoopid. My friend's daughter around the corner here got thrown the other week just because some [**BLEEP**] of a lorry driver drove almost against her then sounded his horn... Idiot clonker. Then, had the temerity to wag his finger at her...sshhhssshhh

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:23 PM

Here's another news article - this time from this side of the Atlantic:

Underwear Is Important. Always wear clean underwear in public, especially when working under your vehicle...
From the Northwest Florida Daily News comes this story of a Crestview couple who drove their car to Wal-Mart, only to have their car break down in the parking lot. The man told his wife to carry on with the shopping while he fixed the car in the lot. The wife returned later to see a small group of people near the car. On closer inspection, she saw a pair of male legs protruding from under the chassis. Although the man was in shorts, his lack of underpants turned his private parts into glaringly public ones. Unable to stand the embarrassment, she dutifully stepped forward, quickly put her hand up his shorts, and tucked everything back into place. On regaining her feet, she looked across the hood and found herself staring at her husband who was standing idly by. The mechanic, however, had to have three stitches in his forehead.

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:23 PM

Well, it's this crazy American game from the '60's where there is this mat which you put on the floor with all these colored circles, and then you would spin the needle and it would give you a combination of a body part (foot or hand) and a colored circle. So it would always start pretty easy, with maybe putting your left foot on the blue square, but then the next person would come along and spin, but have to twist around you, and then when you go again, well, the game ends with somebody falling over...

Posted by: marshamm

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:24 PM

Oh my, Sonar on a treadmill. He would end up breaking his other three legs. Dow's understating Sonar's clumsiness. Sonar will run for the stairs and crash headlong into them. I think a treadmill would likely fling him through the window!

Sounds like that game they invented two days ago for Red Nose Day over here. Dressed kiddies up in suits with velcroed patches all over em, start the music, stop and go stick yourself to someone...fun. It's going to be marketed. Ruby Wax invented the game. Mebbe we should ask her to come to the party...haha

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/14/09 06:43 PM

Amazing - have seen before but always great to see again. Also watched the other dog, the terrier: looked like a Jack Russell or perhaps a Lucas Terrier. Beats that boring old ball game they show at Crufts... Wonder HOW n eart tey train em. Apart from natural aptitude. Suppose smalle size helps - houndette is long legged and rngy, got big feet though. But somehow don't see her skateboarding. (Not sure that I could show 'how' to do either!)

Hi Sue

Thanks for the Irish videos. The group we saw was called Rising Gael. They did do their own version of "Still Haven't Found what I'm Looking For" by U2.

Not trying to bum you out but I still have trouble listening to "Brown Eyed Girl" I usually turn it off when it comes on the radio. My brother in law used to call his daughter his little brown eyed girl. Back in 1996 her ex-boyfriend murdered her and her new boyfriend and then killed himself. She was 22 yrs old.

Hi Sue:

I'm just walking through the wreckage on my way to the hot tub..

You and Jeffrey & Angelmom were certainly missed for the first party, I was starting to wonder if you had too much Vit D and slept all evening

See ya all later!

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/15/09 03:46 AM

Back from hot tub ready to try and sleep...

I think maybe that snoring from under the sofa may be Dr. Ebringer, not sure-

One more short song to end the night: "Heaven Usually Sends Kisses" written by my friend Don Emilo, produced by me:

For anybody who might be hurting a bit tonight:

Oh Mig - aint ya gone to bed yet? Or perhaps y're waking up for the second party...

Morning hon. Sunny here today and houndette had the floor into a... (piscine/pis'scene!!)...this morning. Just what one wants after a nice party. Have threatened her with a nappy - or outside kennel with run. Norty hound.

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/15/09 05:06 AM

I am just scooting off to bed now actually... yikes, and I have to be up early too well, I did have a half night's sleep earlier, so that counts for a bit!

Sounds like the adorable houndette needs a good few more lessons there Molly!!

Have fun in the sunshine - wow, it's suppose to get up to 11 C here today (52 F) yay!

Re: PARTY TIME! - 03/15/09 12:52 PM

he just makes his chocolate mousse cake or chocolate gold cookies for parties, i think to use as bribery......around here he either makes chocolate chip cookies for himself (yeh, i know i'm strange, i don't really love choc chippers the way others do) or i make fruit crisps or custards (maple, pumpkin) or muffins (back when i ate more starch, but i still love a good blueberry muffin)......i think given a choice, i'm a big fruit desert fan, i like my chocolate unadulterated, just give me the chocoalate, plain dark chocolate....yum.....
