I have been seeing in the news that a couple of janus kinase inhibitors are beginning to be used for the treatment of AS. Is any one on either Upadacitinib or Tofacitinib which are the two I see are in use today?
Brand names for Tofacitnib are Xeljanz, Xeljanz XR, and Jaquinus. The brand name for Upadacitinib is Rinvoq.
I would really be interested in hearing first hand experience with these medications.
These medications "should" have the potential to provide lower cost options than the biologics which are very complicated chemicals which are volatile and must be injected. The JAK inhibitors are comparatively simple small molecule which are taken orally. The manufacturing costs of these drugs should be quite a bit lower than a biologic and should be available as a identical generic rather than a biosimilar some day.
